Every time a coaching position at a Division 1 program becomes available, especially one for an East coast team on the rise, I get worried our beloved Bud will jump. Still, we know he has continuously said he is in a great spot here and won't leave unless the right position (a major BCS conference team) is available. Do we consider Louisville as that type of job? Would the Cardinals even be interested? I know he shot down the UConn position, yes? Bud definitely knows the ACC well that's for sure. Thoughts? Calm my nerves please.

Calm your nerves
I think Clemson should be more worried about Chad Morris leaving than we do about Bud
I am honestly going to be shocked if one of Morris or Venerables doesn't leave Clemson.
Watkins announced he's going to the draft.
I had been assuming that he was gone.
IMO, it's gotta be Morris. Louisville has the offensive talent already that he likes for his scheme. He just needs to pair his offensive scheme with a decent DC and he'd be golden.
Don't look forward to playing Morris-led Louisville, but I'd love to play Dabo minus Morris.
I think Bud's prime for leaving has past. I think VT will do what it takes to keep him here as well.
VT has done what it takes to keep him. The man is literally the king of the NRV and one of the highest paid assistants in the country.
Going to L-Ville would be like Luke Skywalker deciding he was done with training and turning his light saber on Obi Won.
it would make him annakin. bud leaving for another acc school and coming back to finally fill the trophy case would be like annakin going to the dark side but then killing the emperor and finally bringing balance to the force in the end.
bud would be darth vader. awesome.
Ok the exact quote is "I find your lack of faith disturbing". Please dont downvote me too much! I really like this! Just reading it made me twitch...
Not me you have to worry about. It's Darth Bud I'd worry about correcting.
Have Sam Rogers do it.
I'm just gonna go cower in a corner now...
His posture is eerily similar to the Emperor...
Something tells me that if Bud tried hard enough, he could air-choke someone from across the room.
In several states and municipalities, Bud has to register his thoughts and dreams as lethal weapons.
I knew it. I knew this thread was coming as soon as I heard that Louisville's coach is going to go to Texas.
What'll be interesting is who the Canes go after (Morris?) if Al decides to take the PSU job.
Golden put out a statement today saying he's staying at Miami.
I think Bud Foster's profile is a bit down right now due to lack of VT overall success even though his defense has been great and the main reason VT made a bowl.
Louisville's recent success probably has them looking for either a "hot" coordinator (Morris, Narduzzi) or someone with HC experience (Franklin).
Sweet, sweet offseason drama

Morris get's paid well to not have all the head coach stresses..so does Bud for that matter.
Bud gets paid, what, $550K once you factor in his annuity? Morris makes, what, $1.3M?
Is L-Ville sans Bridgewater really a hot coaching destination these days? Strong had the program on the rise, but just look at where it was and where their recruiting base is. Going to the ACC raises their profile, but it also raises the competition level, could easily be some rough transition years ahead. Mizzou and Texas A&M they are not.
The thing about Louisville is the amount of money they have in their athletic department. They put a lot into athletics so many coaches would be happy going there.
Many coaches, yes. But Bud specifically?
For a couple million to be working in an AQ conference, possibly. Doubtful though since I don't think Bud would coach against Beamer ever.
well he pursued that clemson job pretty hard. i dont think he'd have an issue with it.
Excellent point.
Take into account this ranking was done by AA at ESPN, but it gives you some idea of the recent investments made there to improve the facilities.

This though is from the same site and doesn't list Bud as one of their eight top candidates so that's the plus side for us if their administration is thinking along the same lines.

Yes, one of the best run athletic departments in the country. They will land a very good coach.
And whomever that coach is can tag-team waitresses with Petino; maybe something along the lines of the Eiffel Tower
See Malzahn and Ark State. Nevermind, just see Strong and Louisville. It's a great opportunity and if you do well, you can get head coach at a school like Auburn or Texas. Great move for Morris, or any coordinator with HC aspirations.
So wait-Loserville football coaches get paid better than Tech football coaches? Thought Loserville was. More of a hoops school than gridiron.
Budget, budget, budget.
I can't imagine Bud would leave before the end of next year. If he stays through 2014, he gets that $800k in deferred compensation. I guess if a program really wanted him badly enough they could pay him an extra $800k, but I don't know that his stock is high enough to land a program with those kind of pockets.
Any time after 2014, and I don't know...all I've ever heard is that he wants to be an HC bad.
Maybe we should poach Louisville's AD since he apparently does a very good job. Someone call Tim sands
Makes you wonder what the fan base thinks of this decision, like if he comes back he was a very successful coach but he totally bailed on them in a way that only petrino could do
And I guess Saban too.... he's pretty good at ditching his teams
Looked at the Louisville247 site and it seems a good bit of their fans are excited if it is Petrino as long as he has a huge buyout. There are rumors that he would like to bring Randy Shannon to his staff as the DC which would help keep their Miami recruiting connections.
I don't like Petrino but he's a good coach on the field and paired with Shannon would keep Louisville as a strong contender in the ACC.
Petrino plus Shannon would be doomsday for a lot of teams. Get them a few years to get their guys in and they'll be dominant.
I kind of always saw Shannon as a pretty stand-up dude. I know he was involved in the Miami booster scandal but he always seemed to be about the right stuff. So it's surprising he would come together with such a lowlife as Petrino.
I could be wrong but my understanding of his 'involvement' with the scandal was that he didn't want his players to interact with Shapiro...
Exactly. I actually remember reports saying a big reason he was fired was animosity towards Shapiro.
Well, see above. There is precident for L'Ville keeping a coach around who cheats on his wife. I don't remember Petino resigning in shame; in fact he raised a national title banner. So I guess winning IS everything.
ESPN reporting Petrino will be the coach.
