That's a friendship that goes back quite a few years, this article covers a lot more of the details.

Here is Rucker singing the National Anthem at a Tech game in 2011

I can remember Hootie and the Blowfish playing Tech several times in the late 90's as well.

Good post! I didn't realize they were as close as they are. That's awesome!

this was cool but it was one of the coldest effin games...ever

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

Duke ('07 or '08 I think..don't remember off the top of my head) was the coldest game I've ever been to...it was 7 degrees F.

Onward and upward

I think it was Duke '08 you were thinking about, and I agree. I was in the North End Zone and the cold was ridiculous. In the 3rd quarter, a friend of mine bought a soda bottle that came with a small cup of ice. When she got back to the stands, she poured soda in the cup and then looked up to watch the play. After the play finished, she looked back down at her soda, which at that point had already turned into a frozen soda brick.

We still stayed the entire game.

Of course you stay for the whole game. Was that in doubt? Are we not Hokies?

That game was cold as hell! Luckily a friend got me into a luxury suite with an open bar for that game,

I'm here for the memes, I just stay for the football.

Didn't Hootie go to USCeast? Maybe there's a connection to Shane somehow. I for some reason remember him being a Gamecocks fan.

I know he is a huge fan, I'm not sure if he went there though. I believe at the beginning of his version of Wagon Wheel music video, his bus is decked out in Gamecock stuff. He wears a USCe hat a lot too. If I'm not mistaken he is from SC.

Hootie and the Blowfish all went to USCe. That's where they met. Supposedly one of them heard Rucker singing in the shower....and its all history from there.

This reminds me of when one of my family members who is a big USCe fan and was golfing with his friends one summer (can't remember when, think it was 2-3 years ago) he and his friends got pulled over for one hole because Frank and Shane were golfing with Steve Spurrier and his son who I believe is a coach as USCe. Random thought but when you mentioned USCe it just reminded me of it haha.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Apparently Frank was a Hootie and the Blowfish fan and was at a charity event that Rucker was performing and asked to meet him. Rucker apparently was a Frank Beamer fan as part of college football so made an extra effort to get out and meet Frank. Friends ever since.

Rucker's daughter was a cheerleader at tech.

So a USCe young lady student tries to call out Frank on leaving early and then Darius let her know the real deal.
I kinda like that. I've always liked Darius Rucker, he is his own man.

You're right, he is who he is and doesn't care what most people think. I've always liked him and he has grown even more in my book!

Was at the concert at the Roanoke civic cente last night. Darius seems like a genuinely nice guy that truly enjoys and appreciates the opportunity to play music for a living. Between songs he spoke a lot about how much family means to him and that country music really reflected that, and that's why he broke off from Hootie to pursue his solo career. Can definitely see why he and Frank would get along so well, they seem to have some pretty similar values

I was able to get a picture with Beamer and his autograph as well. Had a blast at that concert!

I went to the concert at Burruss Hall several years ago (2009?). He mentioned a niece that was involved in cheer or dance team.
