Great spot for him. No pressure right away, and should be the QB-in-waiting for Carson Palmer (age 34). Everything I read in the last couple minutes said they have a couple good QB coaches to work with him. Should be fun to watch in preseason games if nothing else for a few years
Congratulations Logan!

Happy for LT3, no doubt! But....the question I've been wondering -- did it cost Logan (and how much) to come back to VT last year? I'm glad he did, just wondering if it hurt his draft stock?

2012 was a lousy year for him. Among the NFL pundits, the balloon seemed to deflate from 2011-2012. The fact that he came back in 2013 and improved some fundamentals under Loeffler was a good thing. As much as I disregard many of the talking heads, the one thing they got right was that LT is intelligent and coachable. He's got room to grow, for sure, but he certainly did not hurt himself coming back for 2013.

That's a fair take. I just couldn't remember (don't know if it was ever really made public) what his draft status was thought to be after 2012 (when he was deciding whether to return).

I'm moving to AZ after graduation! Time to convert to a Cardinals fan! Honestly, I doubt I'll miss the torment of being a Skins fan.... Dan Snyder is the pits....

Great landing spot for him. Carson Palmer has 1-2 seasons max left in em. Think this gives Logan a chance to compete for the spot but also time to learn and get some professional coaching.

Checked out Bruce Arians' coaching history. Only time he's been solely the QB coach was in Indianapolis from 1998-2000. Not to overreact, but didn't someone pretty good come out of that?

Love the fact that he went (well) ahead of the SEC guys. AJ, Murray, Mettsenberger.
ESPN had him going last of the group of 5 including Savage.
So much for draft experts.
GO LT3!

MT @greggrosenthal Cardinals release former 2nd round pick Ryan Williams. (Virginia Tech) Never got over devastating knee injury.— ESPNradio941 (@ESPNradio941) May 12, 2014

Not just knee injuries (though I feel that's the majority). I think a few of them had back and neck injuries too. Just devastating. Another "monkey on the back" issue IMOP.

I think a big reason was also the salary cap. He was the highest paid RB on the team and they just couldn't justify keeping him and probably couldn't find anyone willing to trade for him.
That said, he has enough talent that he will be scooped up, but he'll take a pay cut as he makes his way back up a depth chart.

It was just bad from the start for RMFW in Arizona. Was never going to work with the new regime. He's kept the wear off his tires, hopefully that helps him make another run at NFL relevance.

I don't disagree with you on the first part. But isn't the idea of keeping the wear off the tires to avoid injury? He had a significant injury in high school, at least one in college, and now two in the pros. I think the tires are getting pretty close to destroyed. Even if they aren't, who is going to snag him with his injury history?
I love the guy, he came from Stonewall Jackson in my hometown of Manassas. There probably isn't a guy I have rooted harder for, both to go to VT and to make it in the league. But this just doesn't look good in any light.

I understand the timing being right after the draft but
doesn't it make it that much tougher for him to remain
in the league (if that is at all possible?)
It would be good if Kevin Jones gave him a call since
he went through it ... a few times.

Right after Logan was picked, Mel Kiper went on for a few minutes about how he has all the measurables, arm, mobility, etc....then he mentioned that he could always convert to tight end if the QB thing didn't work out...Damn you Kiper!

The remark that irked me most was Trey Wingo saying that LT was "a former tight end who reluctantly switched to quarterback." You can't switch if you were never there, man...

Let this be a lesson to everyone saying he wouldn't be drafted before the 5th...
The biggest arm in the draft always gets reached for.
If a GM picks the biggest arm in the draft in the fourth round and the player never pans out... who cares. There's always another draft next year. If the GM gets it right though, he looks like a genius. Plus, coaches all believe that they are capable of mentoring the ultra-talented into perennial pro-bowlers. They are where they are because of their belief in their own abilities to bring the best out of a player, why not reach for the moon? What coach doesn't want the biggest gun in the armory?
Logan Thomas has a chance to be a big time player if he learns the nuances of pocket awareness. He made big strides towards fixing his accuracy problems by the end of his career at tech, but even til the end his footwork failed him when he got pressured. If he learns to step into a pocket (rather than escaping backward) he might make significant progress. Keep an eye out for him. That talent with that work ethic could lead to great things.

Well put. I think his biggest hurdle will be the same as was Vick's and other run-first QB's; to trust the offensive line and give the play time to develop. There is a time to scramble in order to pass and a time to tuck the ball and take off. Logan was very quick about pulling the ball down and running. Obviously, with our previous offensive line issues I can understand why that was. Some of that was part of the design, other times it was panic.
The really good mobile QB's know how to scare a LB/DB into abandoning their assignment and keying on the QB and in turn catching them with their pants down. Roethlisberger and McNabb are the two of the best examples of guys that run to throw the ball.

I just saw a great analogy from a Cardinals fan re: LT comparing him to Randy Johnson -- came to the MLB with insane potential, but no accuracy. Eventually he was coached up enough, and went on to become a hall of famer.

Alright Logan! Great place to be!
The Cards just got themselves a brand new tighten-wait.
LOVE IT! Bruce Arians loves his strong-armed QBs, so he'll fit well in Arians' vertical scheme.
Maybe a tad bit of alumni love as well from Arians who himself was a Hokies QB and grad assistant for Jimmy Sharpe in the 70's.
I had a feeling he might end up with Arizona. Good luck to LT!
Logan was drafted into a great situation AND was picked above AJ McCarron. Boom.
With Arians having experience with Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh, this could work out pretty well! Best of luck LT3!!

His draft stock was turbl.
He also now has receivers that won't drop balls or give up on routes again.
Logan beat out the following, many were Heisman considerations at one point or another!

Taylor Martinez finally graduated? =P
I had totally forgotten about Bryn Renner and what a disappointment he turned out to be. Can't say I'm too upset about it though.

Carson has 1 year remaining on his contract.
Once RMFW gets healthy, we have an all-Hokies backfield in AZ
Checked out Bruce Arians' coaching history. Only time he's been solely the QB coach was in Indianapolis from 1998-2000. Not to overreact, but didn't someone pretty good come out of that?
Yeah, as much as I'd like to credit Arians with that, I think that one was going to turn out pretty good regardless
No, wait, it was probably all Bruce.
Why would you even consider not giving full credit to Bruce?
(Sarcastica a bit)
EXACTLY
(sarcastica a lot)
Welcome to Arizona LT! Good luck, you will do great!
Bruce has a history of helping strong-armed QB and making them superbowl winner. Lets hope he can do the same with LT3.
Love the fact that he went (well) ahead of the SEC guys. AJ, Murray, Mettsenberger.
ESPN had him going last of the group of 5 including Savage.
So much for draft experts.
GO LT3!
With Russel and Kapernick in the conference as dual threat QBs, Bruce made a great choice drafting LT3.
Unfortunately it doesn't look like we will get to see Ryan Williams and Logan play together
Damn that's terrible news. Really hate it for the guy.
A sad but factual continuing trend among countless former Hokies that go to the pros.
Devastating knee injuries leading to talented former Hokies being released?

Btw, for quick clarification I'm referring to numerous former Hokies and not just RMFW here.
Leg for the info.
But in my gut I want to downvote this because it makes me feel so bad.
I understand the timing being right after the draft but
doesn't it make it that much tougher for him to remain

Ryan is still very young. When healthy, he has some fantastic moves. Hopefully he gets picked up by another team.
Bruce Arians is a fair coach and did not want to do this. The NFL is also business. Ryan is a victim of injuries and salary cap.
Hopefully my Rams can take care of Carson Palmer so Logan can get some action...
Aaron Donald might send Palmer into early retirement...
Right after Logan was picked, Mel Kiper went on for a few minutes about how he has all the measurables, arm, mobility, etc....then he mentioned that he could always convert to tight end if the QB thing didn't work out...Damn you Kiper!

Any TE reference will always get a leg from me.
Heed my advice, everyone:
never read YouTube comments.
I personally would love to see Glennon and Meyer play WR in the NFL.
I think Glennon made the Pro-Bowl as a WR and then ended up switching to Tight end...
Let this be a lesson to everyone saying he wouldn't be drafted before the 5th...

I need to buy myself an LT6 jersey soon.
I just saw a great analogy from a Cardinals fan re: LT comparing him to Randy Johnson -- came to the MLB with insane potential, but no accuracy. Eventually he was coached up enough, and went on to become a hall of famer.
So, LT(6) needs to mullet up?
Then he can go from:

To:

I love how John Kruk gingerly steps away, sphincter tightly clenched, barely managing to prevent himself from needing a new pair of pants.
that whole at bat is amazing.
This video is awesome in so many ways, including Kruk's frosted tips mullet.
hahahaha Kruk is the poster boy for 1990's baseball in it's entirety
He did the same thing to Larry Walker. I like how Walker took it in stride...
