OT: Roger Craig Makes it to Finals on Jeopardy

I know I can't be the only Jeopardy fan on here but I just finished watching a semifinal match of Jeopardy's "Battle of the Decades" tournament and Virginia Tech grad Roger Craig just won. He will competing in a two-day final against arguably the two most decorated players in Jeopardy history in Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings. The two-day final will occur tomorrow and Friday.

He set the one-day record with $77,000 in an earlier match. He's also the only player in Jeopardy history to do this:

We call that "throwing down the thundercock", if you will.

Go Roger!

He's even got a Maroon tie on. Good man.

Not the Roger Craig I was expecting......

49ers running back, or former Brooklyn Dodger pitcher/San Francisco Giants manager?

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Tom's reaction is the best. I remember Roger's original tour de force. And I thought I was full of useless knowledge.

Live for 32. Ut Prosim. Let's Go, Hokies.

That shit-eating grin is spectacular.

He owned it...boo-yah! Thx for sharing, best video of the week.

If it ain't orange, it better be maroon...and if it ain't maroon, it better be soon!

This is the most awesome gif that was ever giffed.

Go big or go home. I love it.

Holy mackerel! Yeah, at first I thought - the SF RB? Then I thought - maybe the manager? After watching the clip, I thought - 'He did what I always claimed I'd do while drunk watching Jeopardy. I'll bet it all, Alex!...'

x2

This is going to be great for the ACC.

That guy is like the Sam Rogers of Jeopardy...I love his confidence. Kick ass...

VHokie

He just made it a true daily double with $10,400, the lead at the time. Unfortunately, he didn't get it. It's a 2 day tournament so he'll be back at it tomorrow being down about 10,000.

Yeah, first-to-negative in no time. He was really working that clicker over the last 6 or so questions sitting at -400 or something, couldn't get it to light up. finally beats the other guys to the very last clue, and messes up his answer. "it's a two day tournament" he jokes.

-What we do is, if we need that extra push, you know what we do? -Put it up to fully dipped? -Fully dipped. Exactly. It's dork magic.

I've had the chance to cross paths with both Roger and Ken on the college quiz bowl circuit. Roger's a friendly, unassuming guy and a whole lot of fun to be around. I hope he's able to come back tomorrow and dominate.

Go Hokie! I didn't know he went to VT. He still can win it.

All three have been struggling in this final. They are being challenged and are making mistakes under pressure. Jennings did not pick a single daily double and he is good at them.

#Let's Go - Hokies

True story: I often took the online Jeopardy test in the mid-2000s in order to get on the Jeopardy show.

One of the most annoying questions that I remember missing is "What is the official language of Suriname"?

I am glad that at least a fellow Hokie has benefited from knowing that nugget of knowledge that I never possessed.

Roger Craig once again had a commanding lead over Rutter (?) and Jennings -- in the $10,000s -- and whiffed on a Daily Double again.

NOW WAS NOT THE TIME TO BECOME PAUL JOHNSON AND GO FOR IT!

Still, Hokie Nation should be proud.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I tuned in tonight to see our fellow Hokie, and the Paul Johnson risk analogy is very accurate. I can't blame him though, Daily Doubles got him to the tournament of champions in the first place. Live by the Daily Double, die by the Daily Double.

Yep. Just like the deep ball, the 3-pointer, and the home run.

well, he was 10k behind from yesterday, so he needed to win big tonight to have a chance... can't blame him for trying

He was $10K behind yesterday because he lost it all (around $10K) yesterday [accoring to Trebek tonight] off of a Daily Double. He still won $50K for third place which is really cool. I bet Whit was watching (Whit sees all) and has a call for a donation to Hokie Club in the works.
