Hello everyone, just like football, The Key Play will have a photo presence at men's basketball games this year. You can check out the first gallery of the year here: http://photos.thekeyplay.com/1415-Virginia-Tech-Basketball/Basketball-vs...
I'll be doing at least one more basketball game before new years and then you'll get every ACC home game live and in color in 2015.
As always, you can check out all of The Key Play's photo galleries at http://photos.thekeyplay.com/
Enjoy!

Great shots Mark, what are you shooting with now?
Like always, a 7D + 70-200 f/4. I might be borrowing a 2.8 from some friends who aren't using theirs (especially for the now-nighttime UVA game) from time to time.
Do you find yourself getting enough reach at 200? I'm looking at picking up a 7D Mark II hopefully by the end of the year. the new 100-400 Mark II should pair with that well. It's quite pricey though.
For football? It's okay, I'm very used to it and know what kind of shots I can get with it, but if I can get my hands on a 300 then the 70-200 is going to a second body. (Also, I shot with 8ish MP cameras on a 70-200 for years. I just upgraded to a 7D and its 18MP and it makes cropping down if necessary far easier than before.)
For basketball, 70-200 is the perfect lens.
Keep your eye out on the 100-400 Original. Now that the Mark II is out you might be able to find the old one for a good deal if you can tolerate push pull zoom. It won't be as good in low light though.
People clamor for mirrorless and their high MP but I'll stick with an 18-20 megapixel Canon body everyday. I've never cropped enough from 18 to distort anything crazy, but 8 to 18 is a hefty jump haha
Any word on attendance? It looked like the average from conference games last year.
As mentioned in other threads on the game, the paid attendance was 6191, which is much, much better than last season's OOC numbers. Last season, for weekend ACC games, we were in the 6000 range, or even less at times.
Actual attendance was approx 5500-6000, based on my in-attendance estimate at the ten minute mark of the first half. Students about 65-70% full, donors about 50-60% full.
For reference sake - this season, we have sold just over 5000 season tickets, while last year there were only 3400 (approx) season tickets sold. That's out of a total possible of 6500. So, obviously, the enthusiasm made by the changes has already translated into hugely improved interest.
Mark, great shots as always. I didn't realize you had a photo gallery for every football game. If it's a not a pain can you post in the forum like this when you upload one? I know for me (read: lazy people) it would make it much easier to remember and look.
