thanksgiving winter storm

Hey all, I'm giving an emergency super awesome news report

school news

Its gonna snow on Wed. not to much, but enough to make drivers flip out... so prepare accordingly, id expect 3-4 inches of snowfall in the midatlantic (with about 2 inches of accumulation).

The northeast (northeast Pennsylvania up through Massachusetts) is looking 6-10 inches with a whopping 12-18" up in Maine. Ski season is open I suppose, drive safe everyone!

The good news is buffalo looks like its getting spared this week!!!

Thanks eshiben!

I'll be driving south from Hershey on Wednesday - looks like some models show higher accumulations along I-81, but much higher accumulations north and east of Hershey.

Ugh this is bad news. I'm driving from State College to the Poconos on Thanksgiving day and back the day after. eshiben, when I looked at the predictions yesterday, it looked like NE PA was going to be spared Thursday and Friday. This is just a Wednesday prediction, right?

I'm driving up to PA, too, and have been watching Radar. It looks like the storm should end Wednesday night.

Live for 32. Ut Prosim. Let's Go, Hokies.

Good to go. Hope this comes true!

I've got to make it up to Deep Creek Lake, MD sometime tomorrow. Now just trying to figure out what time to leave (and how much of my vacation time I need to burn) to miss the worst of it.

My parents had a house out there.
I went skiing with my brothers on Christmas day at Wisp.
Beautiful place.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Yeah it is, my parents own a small cabin there. In high school I spent just about every weekend up there snowboarding. I only make it up 3-4 times a year now. Great place, and Wisp is one of the best slopes in this general area (I'd say 2nd after Snowshoe, and you don't have to pay the price and fight the crowds as much).

Yeah, cheaper plus more slope time.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Yes, appears that at most you'll see lingering snow flurries on Thursday and Friday for much of PA. Horse - the Pocano's may see light snow showers on Thursday, but nothing more than that.

You look so happy Horse.

Nice.

Had to get outside now that they've retired the treadmill.

How's the new breathing mask working out for you? Did you prefer the treadmill?

Functional but not ideal. The treadmill, after all, is my namesake

Eshiben, do you think Blacksburg will see much accumulation on Wednesday? Right now it looks like the temp might be a little to high to have any real accumulating snow and the burg will probably see mostly rain and/or wintry mix. Do you agree? I hope so.

good news everyone

ahhh I love waking up to weather discussions, the euro (as usual) was being a little brash about its forecast, and numbers have dropped a little bit. I'm gonna answer all of the questions in a sort of list so lllleeets go

4VPI - I would certainly try to leave earlier, the highs are going to be hovering around 40 during the afternoon and steadily drop to the high 20's and 30's at night. That means its going to go from a rainy sleet snow mix (with very little to no accumulation) during the afternoon to snow later that night with some accumulation. That being said I expect the snow plows to be out in FULL force wed afternoon and evening. Thus the roads will probably be clear regardless, I just wouldn't risk things maybe freezing over and for safety reasons if possible id recommend wed afternoon but yes the highest accumulations will be in the north east.

Horse - you are quite correct, the euro (the lord and savior of models in my opinion) is showing maybe an inch all of Thursday and .1" all of Friday pretty negligible stuff and I'm sure a region as heavily snowed on as Pennsylvania will have it together and clear the snow pretty quick. All and all traveling home Thursday or Friday shouldn't be to bad. It will be cold though so bring a horse sweater!

Hokiebone - first off I gotta ask where in deep creek (girlfriends grandparents have a place up there and I visit every winter/summer) this ones a tricky one, Wed. afternoon (around 2) is showing a temperature of about 33 (31 dew point which it could very easily reach with the precipitation) and 3.1" of snow falling within the next few hours. It should slow down to about 1.2 inches per six hours around 8 but at that point you're looking at stuff freezing back over. That being said deep creek is really good about clearing snow. It'll probably stop around 12ish but I mean that's pretty late if you wanna leave then. My shot would probably be later at night so you don't have to drive through the heavy snow, we all know how much people can flip out on the roads with a little snow coming down.

GoKart - you're pretty spot on, temperatures may dip down enough to get a little accumulation and the ground might get cold enough due to the moisture and the horrible mix you'll be saying but for the most part id expect rain and sleet. Temperatures have a long way to work down before getting to freezing and by the time they do later that night a majority of the storm precipitation will already be all petered out and dead. So yay no serious accumulation in da burg! There is still plenty of time for this to move around though, keep a close eye on that freezing line and where it is in the state.

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Our place is about a quarter mile away from the lake from Arrowhead Market. Once I make it into that area, the roads won't bother me much (except for the driveway, that thing is tricky), just gotta get there. As you said, the behavior on the roads is the main obstacle. Thanks!

eshiben, you're the damn man. Thanks!
