Virginia Tech opens as a 5.5-point favorite against Boston College. Wow, Vegas. Seems very generous. #Hokies— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) October 26, 2014
Vegas hasn't watched Tech play this season. For what it's worth, the last two weeks I've picked against Tech and will do so again this week. I think this a terrible matchup for the Hokies.

Here's hoping that Vegas knows something that we don't.
But, I'm sure the line moves quickly towards BC.
Vegas is saying that we are due. I hope they are right.
Vegas is watching BC play too.
You bet against the Hokies? Damn you, Joe. :-)
I don't gamble on sports, but I picked against Tech on the radio the last two weeks.
Gotcha. I really hate to pick against us in anything but we do have to keep it real.
We owe BC payback for last year. And Duke...
We absolutely need to beat Wake, and it goes without saying we always want to beat LOLUVA.
Yes, I still want us to go Bowling, no matter where we end up. The more experience this team gets, the better off we are for the future.
We held BC to 289 total yards last year, when they had Andre Williams.
Without looking at the stats, I'm gonna venture a guess that Williams had a bout 230 of them. Dude was an absolute monster and should've won the Heisman, no question.
166 with a 62 yard run. Otherwise, 32 carries for 104. He averaged 6.4 ypc on the year, so we almost held him to half his avg. And that one bust cost us the game.
Yeah, I knew it was an exaggeration, but it really felt like he was absolutely dominant. Probably just because of broken tackles in the red zone and that 62-yarder as you mentioned.
For what it's worth, Andre Williams had 33 carries. He had only 6 carries more than 5 yards in that game. And only 3 of those six were greater than 6 yards (8, 19, & 62).
On the flip side, 18 of his carries were 2 yards or less and another 4 carries were for 3 yards -- so 2/3rds of his out of 33 carries were 3 yards or less.
Except for the long run, he was largely held in check in that game.
Also in that game we had a really tall QB that slung the ball around the field all day long.
...and he had 4 turnovers.
True, true... but statistically, that game was one of LT's best as far as throwing the ball. The turnovers were killers. but he also did a lot to keep us in that game.
In fairness, BC seems to have a little of the "Jeckyl and Hyde syndrome" that the Hokies have had this season too.. this game could be a blowout either way, and anything in between
I can't imagine it being a blowout in our favor unless BC self-destructs with fumbles (and they only have 2 all season). It would be beyond idiotic for them to do anything other than lean on their power running game. At this point I just don't think we'll be able to stop it, which will mean we're in for another long game.
If those guys worked for me it would be drug test time.
Well this could be a a good thing. We could put money on BC and most likely make a handsome profit, and if VT wins the sting of losing out on a early payday will be somewhat alleviated because Tech would have actually WON...
I did this a few times.
The money doesn't outweigh the frustration over a loss, and losing money never feels good either.
It is the opposite of a Win-Win
Would you say it was a ... lose-lose?
kinda...
I think we win, but it won't be pretty.
Other interesting ACC lines:
FSU (-6.5) at Louisville
Pitt (-1.5) v duke
GT (-4) v UVA
Miami (-12) v UNC
Love UNC, GT and duke and like FSU there. Duke will win that game by 14.
Whhaaaaaattt? They cray.
But... BC has a mobile qb. That's gotta bring it down to 2.5.
Vegas knows.... Vegas always knows.
They have to be going off pure reputation. Unfortunately if we don't fix whatever it is that ailes this team I think we drop this one as well.
A day after Halloween, wonder if this team will give us a trick or treat?
I'm calling a 6-3 game. Not sure who wins. Seriously though, if we BOTH play down to our floor this might be the ugliest game in college football ever.
Actually scratch that, we'll win because Sam Rogers will take over the game if he has to for us to win.
I was more thinking 10-9 like the Florida/Tenn game. Just a big time ugly game. Just hope we don't see the version of Tyler Murphy from the USC game.
I feel like Bud's going back to the Double Nickle/Bear/8 Man in the Box look.
I hope Bud gameplans for the D to score 21 point while he's at it.
I always pick against us. Not because I always think we'll lose or anything like that, but I swear we win more often when I pick against us rather than not pick at all. (I never pick us, because I wouldn't want to take the chance of jinxing anything)
Call me crazy...I know BC is not great...but I don't think there is any way we beat them by 55 points...
Either I'm missing a joke, or you're missing the decimal point...
I guess one of us is "missing the point"...
I should have used sarcastica font...
Ah, figured it was on my end.
No, it was 5 point 5. No, wait, I think I see what you did there.
Whats the over/under on attendance this Saturday??? If it's anywhere near 60,000 I'll take the under..
Was just wondering the same thing about attendance. I keep telling my wife itll be football weather and ticket prices are dropping by the day, but she is unmoved for the road trip.
Actually, the forecast I saw this morning was for the temp to be in the low 40's with heavy wind and a strong opportunity for mixed rain & snow. 80% chance of precip on Saturday afternoon.
Maybe it's Green Bay or Pittsburgh football weather, but not exactly a picturesque autumn day in Blacksburg.
Now that you mention it, I'm from Pittsburgh and was kidding about the weather's appeal, though I'd go anyway.
Does attendance usually remain strong when Tech is having a down/mediocre season?
Also, pardon my ignorance, but is the UVa game an automatic sellout or is attendance hampered on Thanksgiving weekend?
It's hard to predict the crowd for Saturday, because the season has collapsed so quickly. If there weren't rain/snow predicted, I'd expect 55-60K attendance. Even with bad weather, you won't see a UVa-esque 30K attendance. I expect us to have 50+K there.
For the UVa game, on Saturdays, you get a sellout. I expect this one might be close, if not a sellout. Just so we can continue our winning streak.
The sellout streak ended in 2012 in the middle of a terrible (by our standards) season. I doubt the UVA game will sell out because of our recent struggles and Thanksgiving. I'm actually having quite a bit of difficulty figuring out if/how I'll be able to get back from CA that day.
