Take a look at this chart over on Deadspin's Regressing site if you haven't already about the results college football teams achieve versus the quality of recruits they sign:

Very interesting to see that VT is pretty much dead center when it comes to obtaining results from the recruits they manage to land. You could certainly take issue with a little of the methodology here, but it's interesting nonetheless to see Tech in a similar area as TAMU and Clemson in this regard.

we would have done a lot better on that chart had they used the previous ten years instead of the previous 5!
Closest teams to VT in terms of recruiting/on field success: TAMU, Nebraska, Clemson
Teams falling furthest below the regression line (ie bad results for how they recruit)
Kansas, Maryland, Colorado, Tennessee, lolUVA
I was just surprised Miami and Texas werent further below the regression line, though they are pretty bad
