Earlier today, someone posted that UVA could still go 2-10, since every year they seem to win one game they have no business winning, which someone else helpfully pointed out meant that Miami might actually beat them for the 2nd year in a row. That got me thinking, has Miami fared better against UVA than any other Coastal team since expansion in 2004? Well, I tallied up the results since then, and it's surprisingly uniform:
Since the start of the 2004 season, UVA is:
5-5 against Duke
5-5 against Georgia Tech
5-5 against Miami
5-5 against UNC
5-5 against Maryland (thrown in since they played every year)
1-2 against Pitt (0-1 as a conference foe)
0-10 against Virginia Tech

That DID brighten my Monday! Thank you!
Please reply so that I may present you with your turkey leg, sir!
For good measure, I also looked at their cross-division results:
0-3 against Boston College
1-3 against Clemson
2-3 against Florida State
1-0 against Louisville
2-2 against NC State
2-0 against Syracuse (both being non-conference games)
1-2 against Wake Forest
Yes, the only ACC teams that are unbeaten against UVA since 2004 are Virginia Tech and Boston College. Even Florida State and Clemson have stumbled against them at some point in the last decade, with a much smaller sample size to work with than we have.
The stat that I like the best is that LOLUVA is 0:10 against Tech. My calculation tells me its 0:13 but its cool so long as they stay at zero.
How are you coming up with your calculation?
(I can't tell if I'm missing a joke in there or not.)
Sweet. I would also like to congratulate you on your timing.

"Unsettling" Hokie loss, "Field rushing" UVA victory, then a little visit from you know who:
That really shows two things. First, the supposed power teams in the Coastal are pretty flaccid. All those guys going .500 against the hoos, as bad as they've been? Seriously, the ACC is sad as a football conference.
Second, it shows WE'VE KEPT OUR BOOT ON THE hoo's NECKS FOR A DECADE IN THE ACC.
That's a nice start. Three more decades like that, and I'll be satisfied. Well, five more.
The reason Rece Davis has the ACC Wheel of Destiny? The Coastal division. Most years, it's like the division is playing a game of hot potato with the championship. Last year, going into the final week of the season, there were 17 different outcomes for who could have won the division, and most of them involved 4 or 5 way ties -- out of 7 teams.
So that number's not surprising. The Coastal beats itself up.
You aren't given the name LOLUVA. You earn it.
