Kids nowadays need a video to learn how to stick it in?! smdh...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

Don't kid yourself, since the internet we've all seen it on video before we tried it...

Even you, horse??? What has the world come to?

Not me, I was in the stands doing it before I saw it online. Same with 'Enter Sandman'. That comes with having season tickets for so long.

He wasn't referring to the chant...

“When life knocks you down plan to land on your back, because if you can look up, you can get up, if you fall flat on your face it can kill your spirit” David Wilson

Ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh . . . . !

"Vick, dashing back . . . here he comes again . . . Electrifying . . . and have you ever seen anything like this?"

So you've nicknamed yours "Sandman", have you...

We need a goal line chant. The football team needs it.
This one is as good as it gets.

If we can't have this one, we need the drumline guys to create a new one.

I think it's very important from a noise perspective.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Agree!

The nice thing about the Stick it In chant was that the bad stopped playing as the ball was getting ready to be snapped - and it was almost a cue that the whole stadium needed to quiet down...

If anybody can come up with a mildly appropriate chant, the band has always been searching for a suitable Stick It In replacement. Unfortunately, nobody has been creative enough to think of something. Come up with it and I'll help make sure it gets to the right people. Can't guarantee it will be used, but it can't hurt to try.

Why not "Punch it in"?

but "stick it in" is so college. The beautiful double meaning that allows you to jump on the clean side when you have to defend it to the man.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

I know, I get it, but I was trying to come up with something else without having to change the entire rhythm of the chant

Unfortunately, that drum cadence will not be brought back due to it's association with Stick It In. Yes, some parts of other songs or cadences have a similar riff, but the exact cadence will not be back because people will put 2 and 2 together.

If a few people with rhythm could get a steady "stomp, clap, stomp, clap" going in tempo, it could be done. The Ohhs come on the claps. And you stop to say stick it in every 4 bars.

Heck, I know there are enough amateur and hobbyist drummers in the NEZ that could stomp and clap the rhythm. Just takes some organization.

"Stomp clap stomp clap" . . . You mean like this?

"Tajh Boyd over the middle . . . and it's caught for an interception! Michael Cole, lying flat on his back, ARE YOU KIDDING???"

I'm going to politely point out, that the past 2 games the band has played a stand tune in the red zone that sounds VERY SIMILAR to this. It's played at about double time compared to the original. It sounds nearly identical apart from the cadence at the beginning (same number of bars and everything). The difference (other than the speed) is that there is no rest for you to yell "Stick It In!" However, you can just yell over it. I think we could get it to work.

I could even hear it on the radio. It's totally Stick it in...

@AMB4VT

Our dryspell of sticking it in has gone on for far too long. Far too long.

Party Positive.

So is next weeks how-to video going to be "how to do the Hokie Pokie" or "How to jump to Enter Sandman"...

P.S. I was sitting in South end zone for the W&M game and definitely did hear some stick-it-in chants from NEZ. I dont know if that was started by the band or just the students...but it definitely wants to make a comeback.

I doubt sticking it in ever left our collective imagination.....
(I'll see myself out.)

I could hear it loud and clear in the west side and I joined in!!!!!!

The problem is it's too hard to get enough people on the same page to do the "real" chant without the drums. The rapid fire "stick it in" chant without the "oh-oh" interlude is simple and easy enough that it can happen like it did last Saturday. But there's too many students who have no idea how to do the real one that you can never get more than a small group to do it together.

Agree or not, the previous AD made a "decision" about the chant. (Which Whit has also said he has bigger fish to fry...)
Running across this story reminds me of the chant and the two sides.

Honestly, when I read Whit say he has bigger fish to fry I take it a completely different way. I don't think Whit is the type of person to say anything nonchalantly so when he says something I this I hear: I'm not going to bring it back, but I'm not stopping others from bringing it back.

TKP has had great discussions on this topic and it is somewhat divided, but I think Whit is actually leaving the door open. If there is a strong enough presence to bring it back it should happen all by itself.

How about the newly hired Executive Associate AD, Desiree Reed-Francois. Per Whit's quote on Hokiesports.com she "...believes in creating memorable experiences for our fans, students, donors and alumni...".

desireer@vt.edu

I just don't feel right emailing Desiree and saying "Can you bring back stick it in?" Or anyone for that matter. I'm all for the grass roots approach where the band just starts playing it again and the admin decides to either stop it or ignore it. I think if you take an official position on it you are going to sound silly either way.

Therein lies the pitfall in your dream though. The band will never just start playing it again unless Dave gets permission from Whit. The closest you'll get was when the MV Alumni Drumline played a variation of it as they walked to the stadium against Western Michigan.

I'm not advocating but even if I was I see no issue emailing her about it. Just don't be a sophomoric ass about it. Yes, there is innuendo to the chant but women can yell innuendo laden chants just as freely as women, can they not? If the merit of your argument is that there is a uniqueness and tradition established that a large part of student body agrees with, despite the occasional pelvic thrusting jerk then I see no problem with asking Mrs. Reed-Francois about it.

I take it you think asking is somehow misogynistic simply because she is a woman, which I disagree with.

I'm saying I have a problem asking anyone to bring it back. And I don't want to try to defend it with any degree of sincerity because I would just feel like a fool. But I'd feel equally as stupid asking Whit the same thing. It is a sophomoric chant in and of itself. But its an endearing one that I think should be played.

I guess my whole point is its something that you kind of look ridiculous taking a position on either way. This is particularly true of Weaver and the fuddy duddies crusade against it which started the whole mess. So at this point Whit should take no official position and behind closed doors either tell the band he won't stop them or that its gone forever and lets find other cheers to get people used to.

my reply was to 910hokie. I tend to agree with everything you said before and here

My point was simply that if we want to be vocal about bringing back game day experiences, she would be the one to contact. TKP may be the forum for folks to shout and demand change, but the reality is that change comes from the Athletic Dept. In this particular instance, she is the one to email. I don't think I'm being "sophomoric" or a "misogynist" in any way shape or form.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask, but definitely be prepared for a "No" or even no response at all.
If they made a decision previously, I personally would respect it. I don't want to get to a point where the AD (or anyone in the Athletic Department for that matter) is being interviewed, or even worse, reaching out to media sources to say that they are disappointed in the fan base for not respecting the "rules" of stadium and fandom. Yes, some Miss St fans may have learned something from that article. But I took away that there are some self-righteous a-holes there that will ring the bell whenever they please. And that made the AD have to give a statement, which makes the fanbase look like bozos. I cannot imagine us being in the mainstream media for the Stick It In chant...and don't want to see it get to that point.

Sorry. to clarify, I am not calling you sophomoric or misogynistic in any way. What I meant was, from the way your post read it seemed that you thought writing to her and asking would somehow be taken that way by her. Apologies for confusion

I am going to be that guy and a total d bag.... can you please edit your title for this post? I can't tell if it should be "Students here's..." or "Students hear". Either one works, but "here" doesn't.

..

To do the Hokie Pokie
you have to stick it in...

That's what it's all about!

Florida had a similar version that had to change recently. I believe it was Force It In.

VTMidge

compared to Force It In, Stick It In almost seems romantic. Now if all of this was a joke about UF suspending their QB over alleged sexual assault, then simply, Bravo to you sir!

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

It was. I was actually waiting on down votes for it.

The recording is from the MV Album from circa the spring of 2004? honestly I cannot remember but we had a ton of fun recording those tracks.

I believe the track itself is still circulating around the old interweb and perhaps even for sale somewhere.

The variation of stick it in heard at the GT game was barely even a memory of its former glory. Once we were no longer allowed to play it even that same season it just didn't get there without the band.
