OT- Goodell press conference

To avoid further diluting the FSU/Winston mockery thread, what are your thoughts on the Goodell pressed?

I felt like he sounded ok in his statement but got shredded in the Q&A. He addressed the fact that the NFL needs to establish guidelines on their own due process and when to step in before the legal due process is complete. I'm mostly in agreement here, but due process has come up a lot on the boards lately and I'm interested to see other opinions.

I only heard a little of it on my way home from work today, but I don't like how everything he does is a prepared statement. Can't the face of an organization just talk off the cuff and act like he's the guy?

I only heard, I think, two or three questions, but he kept on referring back to the statement he made, "As I said in the statement..." type responses. I can't imagine how this guy got to be the face of the NFL. Condoleeza for commish!

But then again, Dan Snyder publicly supports him, so there's that.

I don't think he can talk off the cuff. He was picked apart in the Q&A. I think he's been great for the business side of the NFL and is padding the owners' wallets more & more which is why he's getting all of their support. He never gave an answer to the "ignorance is not an excuse," bit, just said that that's why he apologized.

Wait, so you're suggesting it's all about the money!?! I'm skeptical. He's clearly doing his best to protect players from injury and compensate those with medical issues later in life. Not act as though it's not a big deal to save money. And he's obviously punishing star players properly for domestic violence charges. Not just slapping them on the wrist and letting them play so more fans will want to come to the games. Am I right guys?... Guys?

This is ridiculous:
Rice case: purposeful misdirection by team, scant investigation by NFL

Spend some of your Friday night reading this (admittedly long) article. It basically goes into detail just how hard the Ravens and the NFL tried to cover this up, with a lot of previously unheard from sources. Also these two texts that Ray Rice got from Ravens majority owner Steve Bisciotti, the day they voted to release him and hours after calling his actions violent and horrifying:

Hey Ray, just want to let you know, we loved you as a player, it was great having you here. Hopefully all these things are going to die down. I wish the best for you and Janay.

When you're done with football, I'd like you to know you have a job waiting for you with the Ravens helping young guys getting acclimated to the league.

I would normally give a better tl;dr, but I think it's important to read the whole thing and see how the league and the Ravens got to where they are today.

Also, some really damming dot-connecting about how legitimate Goodell's "judge, jury & executioner" personal conduct regime was, with how friendly he was with the owners who expected their boys to win football games...
