Around the ACC: Donna Shalalalalalala turns in Resignation Letter as Miami's President

Effective at the end of the academic year.

Very interesting. Keep your eye on what's going on down in Miami. If they get the right President in charge, they could hire a homerun AD, and could really turn things around in Coral Gables.

or they could hire a pres who takes them down the Tulane, or more dramatically, the UofChicago path...

I don't have to take this abuse from you, I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me.

Bingo. They could aspire to become, *gasp*, LOLUVa south.

Can we send BC and Syracuse back now that she's leaving?

Pandora's Box can't be refilled. If you step back and look at it from the old colonial ACC charter member's eyes, the whole expansion thing has been disastrous for their way of life.

First, they whored themselves out to get F$U in an effort to gain a semblance of football credibility. So F$U comes in, wins 99% of their games, wins every conference title, wins a couple of national titles, and reaffirms the impression that no other ACC football program is worth beans.

Second, F$U pressures them to get Miami. They crawl down to Coral Gables and accept whatever demands are made. Miami handpicks the other Big East teams they want to come with them. Except, oops, the colonialism stirs just enough with Duke & UNC. Backroom politics provide VT the slot instead of Syracuse. Then Miami does jack the entire first decade in the conference, while Virginia Tech dominates the conference. Which is what NOBODY in the old colonial ACC wanted. The national perception of ACC football is still of nine weak teams, just add in a deflated F$U & Miami, then VT, who isn't sexy to anybody they way they wanted Miami to be sexy.

Third, F$U finally recovers to elite status, and only Clemson of the old ACC wakes up, kind of. The Hokies fade some, essentially down to the level of the charter ACC schools. And Miami, still faded. Seemingly half the old Big East is now in the ACC, rendering it incomprehensible. There is no allegiance and no new rivalries. The old schools STILL have done squat and STILL have a glass ceiling of 8-4 regular season.

Fourth, we now have VT rising back up to pair with F$U as the two top teams in the bloated conference. We've got somewhere between 14 & 30 teams in the conference, which spans the entire east coast and possibly parts of Cuba and the Great Lakes. Clemson gives new definition to the phrase 'Paper Tigers', while the rest of the colonial ACC teams look headed for records of 5-7 to 7-5 in the regular season. Alphabet soup, pick your mediocrity. Except for Maryland, who became so exasperated they left for the Big Ten/Twelve/Eleven. And, oh yeah, Miami still has never even played in the ACC championship game, much less won the conference or played in a BCS bowl.

Why are they waiting that long?

Seriously this. She should have been gone a long long time ago. She was a slut for Shapiro's dirty money.

ps - that title is hilarious. shalalalalalallalalalalalaaaa

What happened? Did she issue a racist email a couple of years ago or something? Did she rush onto the field to argue with officials during the last game?

As for the concern that this might revitalize the football program? No chance. The window that opened for Miami in the early 80's to become elite in the way they desired has closed. I don't think they're interested in reopening it, either. I don't think they have the stomach for it any longer.

Just like their Golden boy homerun HC hire from a few years ago turned things around in Coral Gables?

Frankly I think the college football landscape has changed in a way that has really hurt Miami. I've heard their facilities are abysmal compared to the top programs and with the amount of national exposure it is easier than ever for kids to leave their hometown area. Actually, I think we have seen VT face this same problem, exceptt we have made it a priority to upgrade facilities and, while still maintaining a strong presence in VA, started exploring new recruiting grounds to find players to address any remaining deficiencies (see QB, OL, WR recently).

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

And as a recruiting stand point, why would anyone want to play in-front of a less than half filled stadium in Miami. All things equal I don't see how the can match the gameday atmosphere, which lends itself to recruiting, that say a VT or OSU or any SEC team really or even FL and FSU in their own state.

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

hopefully it's for some reason that pushes that school further into oblivion....I have enjoyed every last year they have sucked....which has been a lot. I think shakeitallabout has a good point in that now it's easier for recruits to head elsewhere due to media exposure and new communication. Miami is a private school and hasn't put an emphasis on their football program. I mean really what private schools are really that good in football? They don't even have their own stadium. No home field advantage. The only real reason I can think of that I as a young recruit would want to go their to play is because "hey, it's in miami...south beach and women". But I've heard their facilities are pretty poor as well....and I've been hearing that for a while. And they also have to compete with FSU who is back as well as the mirad of different schools that recruit in FL.

Know how long before Golden takes off?? 2 years at most I say. Vandy is going to need a new coach soon.

The 'U' simplified in one picture:

Left: Nevin Shapiro-graduated Miami High, serving time in federal prison for orchestrating a $930 million dollar ponzi scheme-seen here giving yet another donation to the 'U'-became a whistle blower for UM's sports program resulting in an investigation.
Middle: Shalala excitedly getting the $$.
Right: Ibis-trying to stay just out of the picture thinking 'Uhhh, I don't think this will end well....'
