The Hokies shut down the ACC-leading Cardinals in 3-game sweep allowing only one earned run in 23 innings. Friday's game went extra innings with Kylie McGoldrick hitting a walkoff 2-run homerun in the bottom of the ninth. All told, Kelly Heinz and Maggie Tyler threw 23 innings with 13 hits and 19 strikeouts allowing just the one earned run in Friday's game. They both combined for two 2-0 shutouts on Saturday. The Hokies improved their overall record 28-9 and in the ACC, 6-8. They travel to LOLUVA on Wednesday for a NON-CONFERENCE doubleheader. The ACC scheduling format didn't have the two teams scheduled to play this year so the two teams agreed to play each other in a non-conference 2-game set.

Well done, ladies! Go Hokies!
That was a serious weekend for us on the Softball field. Congratulations! Bask happily in the glow, ladies, and then strap 'em up and take that same steel to 'Hooville this Wednesday. Conference, non-conference, rockfight, tiddly winks, whatever...just take it to 'em.
Way to go!
Just wondering how in the world it was thought to be acceptable that 2 state rivals weren't permitted to have a series scheduled by the conference this year...
The same thought that finds it acceptable that we play FSU and Clemson twice every 13 years in football.
It's too many damn teams. That's all there is to it.
Our diamond teams do well year in and year out, and have beaten top-5 several times. I wonder if the #1s of the world are riding name recognition more than anything?
Not as good as a sweep of #1 of da hoos in beisbol but I'll take it. Good job ladies...
