http://247sports.com/Player/Patrick-Jones-II-79248 long projected to be a VT lock will decide between Pitt and VT today at 4pm. Jones has said throughout his recruitment he wants to be a Hokie but Pitt has made a very strong push towards the end and Stinespring leaving may be a factor. Bud and Justin made an in home visit with him yesterday.

CJF already making in home visits in the 757! Regardless if we land this recruit or not, you have to feel good about the initial effort Fuente is putting in recruiting.
I feel good about the effort, but I'll feel better when VT wins back the 757.
I like the effort, but Frank did in home visits too until he had health issues last year. One of the big criticisms was his inability to close in recent years, Fuente being able to have this DE commit would be a huge moral victory
It'd be more than a moral victory to grab a commit over EAT SHIT PITT.
Perhaps I missed it, but I haven't heard about this yet. If it is true, it's a big hit, he's a good recruiter and TE coach.
All of the Offensive staff is being let go, there were some rumors on Monday that Burden might get an interview
Including Shane?
That's the word on the streets
#sauces?
the streets...apparently
Shane was on Hardly Working with Greg Burton on ESPN 950 here in Richmond last night. Greg asked Shane point blank about staying at Virginia Tech. Shane acknowledged the good question and then gave a good coach answer about focusing on the bowl game and winning their bowl game for his dad, the seniors, and the coaching staff. He didn't sound like a guy that was confident he'd be coaching in Blacksburg after the bowl game.
The interview starts near the 16:20 mark and Greg had some good thoughts on Shane's situation at the 24:50 mark.
Hardly Working Hour 3
Greg has had Shane on his show every Tuesday evening around 5:15. I've always enjoyed listening to Shane and I think he'll make a great head coach once he is given the opportunity.
I'll be surprised if his first opportunity is in the ACC, but I guess you never know.
I would be too. It seems most (using this word loosely with no research and I know there are exceptions to this) coaches have to take a non-P5 head coaching job before being given the keys at a P5 school. Unless, you're a bottom feeder like Syracuse, Wake, or UVA. I'm thinking/hoping UVA takes another unproven coach as I think Richt is smart enough to make UVA think they have a shot, leave them at the altar, and take the year off.

Yeah, I think VT has offered Shane a landing spot in the Admin if he wants it. Sounds like he's working on trying to get on UGA's staff with Smart and/or USC's staff where he might even be a darkhorse HC candidate. He probably has a few other HC applications out there as well.
I'm hopeful he finds a spot on someone else's staff, does well, becomes a HC and comes back to be HC at VT when Fuente eventually leaves to replace Stoops at OU (seems like the most logical place for Fuente to eventually bolt for).
Please don't give me anxiety and already discuss Fuente bolting.
Unless this street was Beamer Way, I'm not going to buy into it yet.
SEARLS??
He gone.
NOOOOOOOO
I think you can expect to see our defensive recruiting return to form going forward. The big knock against committing to us, despite Bud and Co, was that there was no certainty any of those coaches would be around for a while, because Beamer was getting up there and who knew what was going to happen after he retired.
Well, that's not a problem anymore.
That and the sell that the defense will not be depended on by the team to win the game and they can get more aggressive and flat out get after it more.
"Currently, we like to blitz. Moving forward, we are going to blitz and then blitz on top of our blitz"
Hi, folks! John Madden here for blitzing!
Unfortunately I think most people agree our biggest knock on defensive recruiting is the lack of NFL prep outside of the DBs. We will have a pretty damn big dline going forward, so maybe we'll see a scheme change there
In all of this coaching hype, I'd almost forgotten about Big Tim next year.
I want to see Tim and Sobzak line up together. No more runs up the middle
One hope of mine for this new staff is that increased size on the D line will be prioritized. I know we've tried in recent years to recruit bigger guys and have had some success.
I'm all for a more traditional defensive front if Foster brings his own wrinkles to it. Then again watching our small dline eat up Alabama in 13 and OSU in 14 was beautiful to watch
But it was painful in '15 where the d-line was too small to bring down Cardale Jones or any other sizable mobile QB we played this year. Jones was slipping out of sacks and giving piggyback rides all night.
And Miami in 2014 amongst other games in recent years. Hopefully Fuente wants starting defensive tackles that weigh more than 250 pounds.
I think I know a guy who can SETTLE that one.
Miami 2014 was primarily gap integrity issues (Moto)
And injuries. Maddy was out IIRC.
I'm going to attribute that more to dadis hurt hand. If you want painful, getting mauled by Stanford in the OB is the worst dline moment i can think of
That was a rough one. Our d-line got flat-out gassed that game. I think we were up 9-7 (or something similar) at halftime, but our offense couldn't stay on the field and Stanford used that smash mouth no-huddle offense to totally demolish our defense in the third quarter and beyond.
I almost mentioned that one but that was just a collective beatdown in all phases.
There is no "new staff" on the Defensive side. Bud has his scheme and player attributes that he looks for - that's not going to change.
Bud has a new boss.
Except that bud has changed his scheme over the years. Maybe having an offense that doesn't suck will lead him to play a defense that is less breakable on big plays and more bendable
I'm on board with this as that sounds a lot like what Gene Chizik did at UNC this year and I think it's been working out pretty good for them.
Oh, I can't wait til we get those big boys in next year. Gonna be one hard to beat stiff D next year that will cream anything that moves in the ground.
Holy phrasing Batman!
"Gonna be one hard to beat stiff D next year that will cream anything that moves in the ground."
That's what she said...
Evan Watkins just CrystalBall'd him to Pitt. So, another miss I guess.
He said it could go either way in comments
Fuente is too old!! He doesn't know how to close!! It's time for change.
True story. I mean how many chances are we honestly going to give this guy? It's time to hang it up CJF. You have lost a step.
Has he even won a game while here? I mean really!
He's run the ball exactly zero times on first down.
He hasn't even coached a game, what a slacker! I mean really, what are we paying this guy for?
I mean, the guy hasn't even beat UVA yet! What are we doing with him?!
hasn't he heard our motto?

I just tried to register www.firejustinfuente.com but it is already taken and redirects to
http://www.gotigersgo.com/
And I believe someone from TSL registered www.firefuente.com to redirect to UrbanDictionary
But he went to his house, I don't understand...
"time for change?"

"Hi there!!!"
This is for you Hokie Fireman

You're stealing his thunder.
it is all out of pure...

There's some Tech fan on twitter whose user name is Fire Whit Babcock. Got a chuckle out of it, he stated hiring Fuente as the reason.
He must have changed it because it's GONE
hes salty we didn't hire hermann or rich rod...
funny those two guys seem to be staying put in all of this coaching mess.
OH we all know who that jackass is.... good old loud mouth bullshitter himself @vth0kie31.... Guy purposely vomits stupidity and guy I'd pay to give a cleats up kick to the balls.
My morning shit has a higher IQ then this guy.....(can you tell he gets under my skin)
Goes by Goddard
Under BIO: Ex-Virginia Tech Donor, until Whit Babcock resigns. Jacksonville Jaguars fan. Connoisseur of Football. Not here to make freinds. Facts only!
God this guy is a giant douche...what Hokie do you know who uses the word connoisseur unless we are making fun of LOLUVA being connoisseurs of time outs and fine neck sweaters.
Um...something doesn't add up here.
That would be like if Egbert's favorite beer is Natty Ice.
But is he a douche canoe???

so he thinks frost is a great hire at ucf but hates Fuente at VT..
Unless you enjoy bleeding from your eyes please dont waste your time reading his shit. It's bad enough I see it everytime I look up the hashtag #hokies.
Pansy ass pretentious mommas boy!
its close between that maroon account and him for jackass of the year....... who wins?
Because Frost is going to turn UCF into the Oregon of the SE!!!!! /s
I can tell you're holding back.
Tell us how you really feel
I feel pretty

Thanks for asking!!!
For whatever reason that dude follows me (for anyone unaware, I'm a big fan of Babcock and say as much on Twitter from time to time). Really glad I don't reciprocate that, because the dribble he posts is laughably pathetic.
After Stanford lost the Rose Bowl to MSU a few years ago, some of my grandmother's old Stanford alum friends were calling the athletic department demanding that Shaw be fired because they didn't like his playcall on 4th and short in the Rose Bowl.
I tell you all that to say this: this man's asshatery exceeds that of 80 year old women who want Shaw fired.
I predict he'll be Fuente's first commitment.
I predict that he signs with the good guys on Signing Day, but probably commits to Pitt today. I'm betting that Fuente and Bud will continue to recruit regardless of where he commits today.
247sports has crystal ball projection 100% pitt.
:(
At least it wasn't a position of need for us.
...oh, wait...dammit.
that's nice. He'll get plenty of exercise over the next 4 years in our games chasing the ballcarriers as they run free in the secondary.
I wish I was as confident as you are. Nard Dog's defense looks .....uhh....on fleek, is it?
Wait. What did you just say? Did you say something about his momma?
Get off my lawn.
But seriously what in the hell did you just say. I'm getting too old for this shyte.
"on fleek" = "looking good"
I believe "fleek" is a combination of "fly" and "sleek". No idea why its always preceded by the "on".
Derived from "on point." But as a result it makes less sense. But the youths think it sounds cool.

-------------------------------------
Because it originally came from "en flique", which is french slang for police, and was slang for policing one's eyebrows (on point, or sharp, or policed) in beauty salons.
From there it escaped to the general hip community. Go figure.
If you could have him turn his rock and roll music that would be great.
Thanks, Rubama!
Ha. Have fun below us in the coastal division for the next 4 years.
This years class to me doesn't matter in terms of how it reflects on Fuente. I'm sure the coaches will fill out the scholarship numbers and a few kid will end up being contributors.
Agreed. This year's class is more a reflection of last year's recruiting efforts. It's tough for a new coach to come in and build a relationship in one day.
It will be nice if they get a few wins, but recruiting isn't generally a last-minute thing, with some exceptions.
I don't get how you say "I really want to be a Hokie but Pitt is making a strong push". I mean if you really want to be a Hokie then there is only one school to choose. Exciting times ahead at VT. Guess he didn't really want to be a Hokie after all. Watch out for mcmillian running your way that you don't get run over.
They're 18 yr old kids.... boys at that.
They say stuff that doesn't make sense all the time. God bless them all.
Eh, that might be a bit harsh. Keep in mind, he didn't hear a darn thing from VT for a solid month. On the other hand, Pitt has been pushing hard. Also keep in mind, while we're all excited and optimistic, Fuente has won zero games as the head coach of VT. He can tell recruits his vision, but he's got a ton of ground to make up. On the other hand, Narduzzi can show them just how close they were to winning the Coastal despite some devastating injuries during his first year, when no one gave them a chance. There's some solid evidence right now that Pitt can be a contender, while VT still doesn't even have a full staff at this point.
There's still quite a bit of time before signing day, and I wouldn't have announced now given the circumstances, but I won't fault the kid for making the decision he did when he made it.
That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out objection.....
Overruled.
I've got a few shots of whiskey hanging around if you'd like to see the full spectrum.
I'll check back in 45 minutes
Nah, not enough disappointment in the sports world today. UVA whiffing their way down their coaching list and getting beaten out by Miami and "nothing" is making it rather difficult to get belligerent.
London was able to come into crappy loluva and sell his "vision" day one and a lot of kids bought into it. No reason Fuente cant do the same with a much much muuuuuuch better foundation
The notion that London got a bunch of elite kids to buy into his vision and he killed on the recruiting trail is false. He got in bed with a shady crowd - and ended up with a few elite kids and a whole bunch of scraps. And his record reflected that (along with an assist from inept coaching).
Are we talking literally day one? 'Cause Fuente had to come in and try to undo a solid month of Pitt's recruiting momentum in about 48 hours, a couple phone calls and I think one visit.
I really wanted Chipotle the other day, I still had Taco Bell though. Same diff.
Don't sweat it. 1rst year recruiting for new HC is a wash unless your Saban or Meyer. Can't count on recruiting until next year.
Unless you're Alabama or Ohio State.
Why would u wanna go to Pitt to play football? If I had choices I think that would be about the last place.
At least third from the bottom. Uva....wvu...
Da U, Mary-land, etc. There are a lot of bad choices. Pitt is just meh
