OT: Alternative Helmets by Athlon

Found this while procrastinating. Just like whomever did the redesigned NFL helmets, someone redesigned the college helmets. Some are cool, some look exactly the same, some are downright atrocious.

It is my opinion that the "redesign" of our helmet is dumb.

Why gray?

I mean, I'd be ok with it if they used Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange instead of Clemson's colors.

Looks like they're playing up a chrome base...

Well, I don't hate it...I would prefer a Maroon helmet with White Logo and Orange border...

Onward and upward

I almost down voted that picture out of disgust. Then I remembered you were just providing it to us.

I wish the gray uniforms in all sports would go away. Change they grey on that helmet to white, and i'm in.

I like the helmet designs for Tennessee, Vandy, aTm, Mich State, Hawaii, Army, and the Irish. I'm no graphic designer, but to me it seems like for most of these the design is just an oversize logo on a chromed helmet. I'm a fan of utilizing a school's alternate or retro logos, though. Case in point: my love of our Fighting Gobbler, VPI, and TV logos. One of the epic parts of our class ring in 2011, having several of the older logos. But I digress...

I absolutely love the stacked VT logo. If you ask me, that's our best look and should be the one we go with permanently going forward. Its a clean, symmetrical look that leaves no doubt on who we are. Don't get me wrong, the logo we use now is good in its own right, but the symmetry of our old one just puts it over the top for me. The symmetry makes it an easy logo to place anywhere you want while keeping things balanced.

This one on the helmet? I loved these! (although Ryan Williams made almost any uniform look good)

Eh, I'm not really a huge fan of the old stacked logo. If you take out the T, it kind of looks like an old LOLUVa V logo. I have an orange VT hat with the stacked logo, and a couple LOLUVa fans have mistaken it for an old Virginia hat at first glance. Definitely should be brought back from retirement and allowed for merchandise, but the "square root of one" logo is our most recognizable look by far.

I was waiting for someone to post a picture to make sure that I knew the one you were talking about was the one that I really didn't like.

Same here. I really dislike that logo. I understand it's got historical significance to a lot of people, but I'm sorry, that says "TV."

"Exit light..."

What a 'redesign'. They basically took everyone's logos and embiggened them. So bold and unique.

+1 for embiggened

It's a perfectly cromulent word.

I like Miami's. Subtle use of the mascot but not overpowering.

......I kinda like em...

Give me a maroon chrome base and an orange VT with that circuit board pattern from the black Nike uni's and I would probably be in on this being a "bold" design. This is just ugly and looks like Clemsux colors as someone mentioned. Also if they are going to use grey at least put the Hokie Stone half transparent pattern instead. How about Exit Light written on the top horizontal bar of the facemask and Enter Night on the bottom bar.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Some of them are cool (Mich St, South Carolina), but ours is just no. How about the Fighting Gobbler in the style of the Gamecocks helmet? That could look badass.

Disappointed the designer didn't incorporate a Hokie Bird design. He used mascots very effectively on a lot of the helmets, and there are several rendentions of the Hokie Bird that would work well as an emblem on a helmet.

Georgia is unique. The gamecock helmet presents an interesting option for our fighting gobbler.
