OT: Noah Spence

Ex-VT target Noah Spence is transferring from anOSU to Easter Kentucky. It's always interesting to see what past VT targets end up doing.

EDIT: Not the DE that I thought it was, I don't know how I confused him with Jalyn Holmes

In your defense, he was a target of ours. We never really had a chance, though.

So I was wondering why he transferred, I thought he was NFL bound. Googled and this:

Turns out he failed a bunch of drug tests, something that I may have heard before but didn't recall. Here are some of the critical quotes there:

"It's a great institution that has a wonderful family atmosphere, which he was used to from being at Ohio State," Greg Spence said. "Coach [Dean] Hood and his coaching staff are wonderful gentlemen that take care of the student-athlete as a whole person, on the field and off. Something Noah really needed as a continuum from what Coach [Urban] Meyer has been doing.

"He's extremely excited to play football again as well as grateful for another opportunity."

Spence was an All-Big Ten standout in 2013 with eight sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss. He was projected as a third-round pick, but Greg Spence said his son needed another year of college and needed continue his path to graduation in December.

"Noah needed another year of growth and maturity, especially regarding decision-making," Greg Spence told ESPN.com, "so he could have a long, sustained career at the next level."

Greg Spence compliments coach Meyer and OSU, and thinks his son needs to mature before going to the NFL. He deserves a golden horseshoe in parenting.

golden horseshoe

Nice to see a parent caring about a child's welfare instead of the fancy new car/house they could buy them! turkey leg for the golden horseshoe for parenting!

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

Exactly! I usually believe if a college football player can get drafted, then they should leave for the NFL. They shouldn't pass up on payday and can always go back to school later. However, I forget to factor if they are ready maturity wise.

I am impressed that this dad thought of his son's need for education and maturity over that payday for the family. In the long run, NFL career or not, this will be the right decision.
