I'm not sure this will help them in the long run. They are probably better off using the money to pay people to attend the games.

What's next, FSU building a $50 million Academic Excellence Center?
What......shut the front door......they have a football team?????
I think the biggest takeaway from this article was that UVa has a football program. News to me
That's a lot of money to invest on a dumpster fire.
Well, they do need a bigger dumpster...
Sounds to me like they are trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records for World's Largest Dumpster fire!
The only quality thing I found on that page was a link to Oregon's football center.

I think a better a coach would be a much wiser investment, but given how much I like Mike London, I'm ok with him sticking around.
#FOURMOREYEARS
Man, that is going to be one expensive toilet.
They must be running out of places to flush their money away to.
Lipstick on a pig.
David Teel I just lost respect for your writing.
How can you lose something when you never had it to begin with?
Whoa whoa whoa...no respect for Teel? Come on now. He's not Berman. Guy writes some good stuff covering sports across VA.
God she looks soooo hot in that GIF
Always. Fixed it for you
Calling Stanford and UVa peer institutions is like saying LeBron James and J.R. Smith are "pretty close to each other in terms of talent"
You don't remember the article from a couple years ago stating that UVA was trying to adopt a "public Ivy" status? Or that they were even thinking of going private so they didn't have state funding mandate who they have to accept as students?
For as smart as they like to think they are, they seem to be very stupid. Stanford spends 21 million, so UVA spends 50 million, because they can...what's next? Donald Trump running for President?
I wish they would go private so they wouldn't be burdened by the tax money from us unwashed masses.
#SOURCES tell me they are already discussing focus areas for this future Football Operations Center. Right now, there's a Timeout Development and Utilization department, an Outgoing Transfer Transition department, and a Commonwealth Cup-less Counseling Center in the works.
...and here is an early mock-up of the Coaching Database facilities.
London can't wait to get in there and christen it with a desk pop. Did you know he used to be a cop?
Good article. They are right, the only reason they got Bennett was because of the JPJ. UVA has good to great coaches across the board.....except football. That position is almost certainly going to be refilled within the year. It would be impossible to have a worse hire than they did last time.
It's fun to laugh at them and all, but I've always taken a "whistling past the graveyard" view of their football program. They've got a ton of money, they are good at hiring, they are in the middle of one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country.
It also helped that Bennett looked at the Commonwealth and saw a prime opportunity for a name program to step up and be the big power of the region, which was a position that was vacant at the time.
Virginia Tech has already established itself as the regional power in football. No matter who comes in to coach at UVa, they come in knowing full well they are a fairly entrenched #2 in terms of prestige for the state alone.
Not exactly the same situation
I know I will get blasted for this, but want to make sure I am not off base in asking didn't Buzz kind of step into a similar situation? UVA is not a power, and this is not a direct comparison, but there seems to be at least a hint of similarity. UVA has been recruiting fairly well, they have a lot of money, and podcasts with people that have infinitely higher football IQ than mine seem to think they may pony up and bring in someone really good.
I never want our streak to end, which I think requires never underestimating what could happen this year or next.
I tend to agree with you. I think lolUVA will actually make a good hire, or rather a big splash hire, this time. I could be wrong but I think they swing for the fences with this one.
Hoos suck, but they're capable and willing to throw money at the problem.
Welcome to the NCAA football arms race. Even zima-sippers want to play.
Some years I wish the ACC would stop distributing profit evenly when LOLUVA brings nothing to the table. But hokies' basketball even things out by sharing the pie.
UVA's getting a Football

Center?
Seems just about right.
Step 1 - Remove Heart
Step 2 - Remove Brain
Cancel step 1, there is no heart.
Someone needs to see if we cab sneak a VT into the facility from an aerial point of view again
The bigger the football operation , the emptier it will look when fans abandoned it after another disappointing season . I pray they let Mike London oversee the whole operation.
This is where a "London for Life" campaign sign would be great.
The article mentions Bill Goodwin as UVa's most influential donor and board member. Funny thing is that he's actually a Virginia Tech alum (he got his MBA at UVa which is why he is willing to donate to their school)...if the name Goodwin sounds familiar, he is the one they named the new engineering building after. You can also thank him for the new indoor facility, he made a major donation towards the athletic department reaching their 20 million goal. Below is an article about him (net worth currently a little above 1 billion dollars)

As an undergraduate VT alum, I seriously doubt he going to spend a lot of his time helping the Wahoos fundraise to build this new center...even if he wanted to, he's got more important things to focus on like helping to develop a free-standing children's hospital in central VA.
I'd like him to spend exactly $0 with UVA personally.
Well, if he does, I'll gladly double it.
as a VT grad Mr Goodwin should know better than throwing money away at a lost cause.
The guy is also a UVA grad too. VT undergrad and UVA graduate school.
My cousin did this. Undergrad at VT-Med school at UVA
Soccer is gaining popularity in this country; from a UVA standpoint this decision makes sense.
This is being done in order to attract a new coach. Kind of a Venus fly-trap design.
So... they're trying to Field of Dreams us?
Dipped in magic waters? I'd rather be dipped in dork magic.
Worked to land Bennett.
"Boy, that's a nice arena. I'll take any job not associated with UVA football, please."
Don't go!
So they must be thinking "hrm, if we can upgrade our facilities, then we can draw high profile recruits and that will elevate our program. What's that you say? We already get a disproportionate number of high profile recruits? OK, we'll get rid of London as soon as we can afford to do so. Then our new coach, improved facilities, and top notch recruits will elevate our program. Oh wait, that was supposed to happen when we ditched Groh?Well crap, it seems we just don't have the culture at our school to support football...Um, what do we do next?"
Which will of course lead to the real question: will the new facility have the capabilities to host a Frozen viewing so they can try to get fans more involved?
World premiere Frozen II, they would draw in so many recruits for girls sports.
You mean like football....
This reminded me of this:
MJ cant stop laughing at this idea
