The day we've all been waiting for, and it has finally come.
Really, if you were hoping for UNC to get the hammer dropped on them, this is Step 1. The NCAA doesn't have many big penalties to really hammer someone for, but this is one of them. Sure, Roy Williams and Larry Fedora are safe for now, but that doesn't mean their athletic program as a whole isn't now on extremely precarious footing. Whenever a school has truly been hammered by the NCAA, it always started with a LOIC charge, and now UNC just got it as well.
So much for the 'Carolina Way', huh?

That's some really great detective work there, NCAA. Seriously, you guys are regular Sherlock Holmeses (Holmesi? How does one make that plural??)
Now it will only be about 5 more years before they actually do anything about it.
Oh yeah... this definitely should have come out the first time around, but credit them for getting it right this time.
And make no mistake, this is a pretty damning NOA against UNC, one which they're not likely to plead down very well. Along with the LOIC, they were also charged with 4 Level 1 infractions, and they're also claiming UNC violated their recent probation stemming from the previous investigation.
No doubt and I'm glad they're throwing the book at them. But really the NCAA (and the NFL for that matter) has shown time and time again that they either won't or can't discipline programs. Recent news (read deflategate for the NFL and this for the NCAA) suggests this is changing but it's like wiping your ass 2 days after the poop. By that time everything has crusted over, it hurts to scrape off, you need new pants because the stink bled through, and everyone is giving you the stink eye.
...hell of a metaphor there.
I hadn't seen terrible metaphor guy around in a while so I thought I'd give it a try
heh, ..now that you mention, he has been largely absent. Maybe he just shows up during the season.
He does have the word anus in his screen name. Just sayin'.
giggity
Look at his signature for another "hell of a metaphor"...
This is a great metaphor because UNC is the asshole and the NCAA is the dirty irresponsible slob
it's completely fitting
Now this sounds like someone speaking from experience.
Holmeses
Sherlock Homies?
Sherlock Homeii?
Sherlock Hokie
Thought so, thanks. I can English good.
Also I totally read this as Homeless the first time through
co-conspirator?
Sherlocks Holmes?
It's pronounced "Kevin."
Hello UNC, Death has come to see you...
Why Warner Bros hasn't done a full length feature using this animation about the those guys is beyond me. Paging JK Rowling...
UNC athletes are going to be super upset about the NOA just as soon as a tutor reads and summarizes it for them.
Or if they translate it into swahili
(i.e. the no-show language class all atheletes took)
Drink!
Great minds think alike. ;-)
Soooo......we can expect more of these then???
Step one comes a little late here. We'll see what the NCAA actually does to the program. This is what UNC is probably going to say to the NCAA.....
I don't expect we will see "SMART" on any more rings for UNC.
Only because they aren't going to win any more rings.
they didn't technically win the ring they have...
Like those single women who throw weddings for themselves?
Fact: Homer Simpson spells better than UNCheat Ath-a-letes
I love the graphics Alum is using. It's like breaking news on CNN.
Also, I initially thought this was an old thread that got bumped. Nope, this investigation has just been going on for about a decade now.
Well if anything was actually going to happen to UNC, this is certainly a very big first step.
If the NCAA had done its job years ago, we'd probably have Landon Turner and Marquise Williams playing for us.
I can deal with that. What really pisses me off is how badly they've treated these athletes. Yeah, they got a nice ride for 4-5 years with lots of perks and little effort off the field.
But the degrees they got are worthless. So if they didn't go pro, or get really lucky otherwise, they'll be selling women's shoes for the rest of their lives.
Sigh... and Jalen Dalton.
Oh man. I got the UNC MBA add on this page haha.
This would be funnier if I understood how to post a screenshot from my phone.
Screenshot it --> using the imgur app, upload it to the interwebs --> copy the image link, and use Joe's fancy insert image button.
so if UNC actually does get hammered by the NCAA are any of their players allowed to transfer and play immediately.....and if so who do we want??? (almost a new thread)
I wouldn't mind having a couple more receivers...
yeah how would that play out? I mean, I very much doubt the NCAA does something in time to affect the 2015 season, but if they did, how do we adjust our schedule? All coastal and two atlantic teams will be down a conference game. Can we play LOLUVa twice to make up for it? Always nice to get another automatic W...
they're probably not going to get the death penalty where they don't field a team. I think the difference might be that SMU got the death penalty because they got LOI and then while on probation they got it again (if I remember that 30 for 30 series right).
Would said players be able to qualify at a school that... ya know... actually does school?
*ducks*
Conference transfer rules would probably still take effect, so anyone transferring within the ACC would likely have to still sit out. They could play immediately out of the conference, so that might be a strong draw, but as far as this year is concerned, scholarship numbers are pretty much set, I would think.
FWIW, if memory serves, the Big 10 allowed in-conference transfers without additional penalty -- in conjunction with the NCAA transfer exemption - in the Penn State situation.
I'm not saying the ACC would (or should) do the same, but there is precedent (albeit a different conference).
Applying the University of Miami timeline to this case, we should see some action/resolution by the start of the 2019 season right? Start passing the word along to those 8th grade recruits!
I bet Frank is even happier that he didn't leave for UNC now.
Wow. I hadn't even thought of that! You know this is reaffirming his decision to get off that plane 1000%.
On the other hand, I bet he wouldn't have allowed all this, unlike Butch "I don't know nuthin'" Davis.
