Andy, everyone here knows there is only one truth in regards to sports fan figures, and that is:
anything of numerical value > fans at a lolUVA Spring Game

(nice article by the way)

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

Northwestern at the bottom was a huge surprise. I know they are downtown Chicago based, but Chicago is a big pro sports town and I always assumed Illinois took the majority of fans. Kentucky and Alabama not a shock at all, teams in states without a professional presence and have had national successes at several periods in their history. Both have a very high bandwagon factor because the other major programs in their state (Auburn and Louisville) do not have similar numbers, but are both competitive at the same level. I will also admit my bias that as soon as I see someone in a UK or Bama hat, I automatically assume they are an uninformed, non-alumni, bandwagon moron and it looks like I am right 91-92% of the time.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Is it?

Northwestern is where the push for a student athlete union started. I suspect they got more than a few likes off of that.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I forgot about that, it would definitely drive their number down. Their undergraduate enrollment is less than 10K so a few outside "likes" could definitely swing the numbers. I really thought Ohio State would be on this list near the bottom as well. Growing up here, most kids root for them and then end up at one of the other 6 FBS schools, but will still root for OSU. Cincy is one school that is nearly anti-OSU but Bowling Green, Akron, Toledo, Miami, etc will be all OSU on gameday.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Having lived in Ohio I concur with your thoughts. Everyone is a "Buckeye". But percentage wise anOSU is a HUGE school so a lot of kids at least attended if not graduated from there.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

When I read "College Sports Fan Figures," I imagined the post would be something more like this:

She's a sports fan with a nice figure, right?

Take off the F$U stuff and put on some VT stuff and you'd have.........or just stop at taking off the F$U stuff...

Edit: Damn is it getting hot in here??

Edit, Edit: My wife saw this and says that this girl is way too young for me to be talking about that way and I should feel ashamed and spend the night on the couch... It was worth it though.. :)

Bret Farve would upvote this....then reach for his phone...

More of a reflection that Blacksburg is in the middle of nowhere and hasn't won anything of note in the past three years...most of the school on the "low section" are programs that have been winning a lot recently or in/near major cities.
