This past weekend, Zach Epperly and Ty Walz won their Bouts at the NWCA All Star Classic in Atlanta Georgia. Epperly beat the then #2 wrestler at 174 lbs Kyle Crutchmer 2-1, and Walz beat the then #2 HWT wrestler Adam Coon 9-3. Both Walz and Epperly move into the #2 spot in their weight classes!
This weekend VT kicks off the season with a monster home dual in cassell, #13 Iowa State. Tech looks to have a slight edge on paper, but this should be a great dual with lots of action.
The Dual is Saturday at 1 PM in Cassell, Admission is free.

Epperly did win on a technicality although it was deserved. His opponent got his second stall warning for finger clasping, awarding Epperly the winning point.
Disagree slightly, not a technicality. Epperly didnt suffer a point deduction because he didnt have a previous stall warning. Thats good wrestling, not a technicality.
I only used the phrase "technicality" because that is what the announcer used.
Fair enough, didnt mean it personally in any way. I just have a feeling there's going to be a ton more stalling calls this season and it will decide quite a few matches, even some important ones. Walz and Mastriani had good fortune in that regard last year, specifically because they were active aggressive wrestlers.
Epperly deserved that win. He was the only one taking shots.
This is a very meaningful match as Iowa State is one of the wrestling powerhouses in the country. Beating these guys would really help solidify Tech's arrival to the wrestling world.
I'd argue we are one of the powerhouses in wrestling and the only thing we have left to win is the National Championship. We have placed top 10 at the NCAAs three years in a row and have beaten traditional powers like Ohio State in the past.
We were an overtime match away from beating penn state also
And we're probably the only team within spitting distance of them this year in duals. Will be an awesome showdown in Cassell the day after UNC. If youre making it a weekend in Blacksburg, that dual will be must see, most of the national wrestling media will be present. Plan ahead.
Go Hulkster, er Hokies!
