A few quick visitor updates for you all ahead of the Pitt weekend.
Even with the torrential rain expected in Blacksburg, there are still a few recruits I've spoken with that say they'll be attending this weekend's game.
2016 DT Nick Coe will visit unofficially before taking an official next year:
Another recruiting note: 2016 DE Nick Coe says he'll visit #Hokies unofficially on Oct. 3 for Pitt and take an official in late January— Alex Koma (@AlexKomaVT) September 25, 2015
2016 DE Patrick Jones will be visiting officially for this one:
Quick #Hokies recruiting update: 2016 DE Patrick Jones has set a date for his official visit to VT: October 3 vs. Pittsburgh.— Alex Koma (@AlexKomaVT) September 25, 2015
And 2017 Dylan Rivers told me recently that he'll also be making it down for the game, as the number of his visits inches toward double digits.
I'll be trying to follow up with each one after the weekend is over, so keep your eyes peeled.

Terrible weather. Noon game. "Bad team". The stands might look rough this weekend
I just hope it doesn't turn into an Aluminum Effect game
yeah, the last thing we need to do is start copying LOLUVa's student involvement initiatives.
yeah looking at agood bit of rain that game not good
I don't know, I always thought rainy slop was the best weather of all to play football in.
Can we just have a "closed" game inside our practice facility? Last weekend it was so annoying with the water droplets on the camera!!
10's of millions of dollars and ESPN couldn't keep the damn camera clear
That was a disaster. I couldn't see who was missing all those tackles. Luckily French filled us in.
I think one of the most annoying aspects was when I couldn't even see where the ball was on kick offs and punts.
Oh, cool...the camera is pointed upwards...I guess the ball is in that general vicinity.
Another visitor added to the list:
We have been working him for a while.
Is he visiting to see the Hokies or Pitt?
Really want to land Nick Coe, so him visiting this weekend is a bit scary. With how poor the weather is predicted to be, and coming off of a bad loss, the crowd is not going to be impressive.
Speak for yourself, I fully intend to be impressive.
Can we all agree that Blacksburg is one of the worst places to be when it's raining? Plus trying to get fans to show up in that weather after a terrible loss in similar weather. Please coaches just reschedule every visit this week for another time. I feel like this is going to be the last time we hear about these recruits until Joe posts the "4* John Doe picks X University over the hokies" article.
Ladler signed up today. Not sure what he was watching yesterday but I will take it. Assuming he recovers from ACL he could be a beast at DB.
The chance to play early.
Edit: A four star CB that's a decent add. Will be interesting to see the long term recruiting class this year.
You're probably right on the money with that. What did we have, like 3 freshmen in the secondary yesterday? Mook, Adonis, Terrell(RS)?
Quite a surprise. Great news.
If it weren't for a torn ACL he would be rated even higher. Reminds me of the Austin Clark commit last year, out of nowhere after a brutal loss and plans to enroll in January.
Well, honestly he was watching a very good defensive effort. The DBs played well. Facyson especially was on point. If Ladler's goal is developing as a player and making the League, this choice makes sense.
Makes sense to me. Not many teams have the problem of a junior CB being out for the season and still probably skipping his senior year for the draft.
Plus, this new commit has an injury that our staff has a solid record of rehabbing our DB's back from. That's a pretty important side benefit.
I haven't gone back and carefully watched either of the 2 losses yet, but my impression is that Facyson is quietly starting to play some very good corner again.
What I have noticed so far is that Brandon has rarely gotten his name called, outside of making a tackle, getting or creating a turnover, that is exactly what you want from a DB, means he is doing his job.
Exactly. You wonder if he's even on the field...but when you look, he's there.
There is no doubt that VT is doing ONE thing right, and maybe better than anyone else:
Showcasing DB's.
If you are a DB recruit, and you think you are all that, you are going to get a chance to prove it - really prove it - at VT, and maybe even right away. We play true freshmen all the time there. And we put pressure on that position like no other team in America, IMO. The entire defense is dependent upon success at that position.
This is true.
As long as he knows how to handle jump balls...
I was playing with the recruiting calculator on 247 earlier today and if we manage to land Landon Dickerson, (high 4* OT, between VT, FSU, & Auburn, 75% Crystal Ball to VT) it bumps our recruiting class from #38 to #26 (between Auburn and Louisville). If we also land Jovani Haskins (High 3*/Low 4* TE, between VT, Rutgers, & WVU, 90% Crystal Ball to VT) it would put us at the #20 recruiting class (between Kentucky and Baylor). These numbers are of course all fluid, since other schools have the ability to jump up more with many highly ranked prospects still uncommitted. Also I believe that VT doesn't have a lot of scholarships available this year, so it's unlikely that we would be able to sign enough more high profile recruits to maintain a top 30 ranking even if they both committed today, but its not out of the question.
We aren't getting Dickerson, so there's that!
The way the line mimicked a revolving door should mean PT will be available to anyone who can at least get a hand on a defender
Have a good chance with Merritt. Have a very poor chance with Dickerson.
Haskins looks good. Not done yet but close.
Ian Boyd is playing basketball at GMason by the way. And Holloway is SEC (UF). So it looks like we are done with WR. Which isn't a bad thing....
Unless there is a late flip or add of course....
