I'd rather be golfing.

Also Matty Ryan and Mendenhall.

Also fuck Paul Johnson and his chop block offense that takes the whole game away

He said give to me Roscoe

Against the ACC, he had to be compared to all the Running backs....in this article, he is compared to all the other Fullbacks out there. Tough sell in terms of the ACC where most of the voters go almost solely on stats. Rogers was 36th in rushing yards in the ACC, behind two other Hokies in Evans and Macmillian. Tangibles just dont get votes enough because they are hard to put into numbers for those voters that dont even bother to watch the games.

Regardless of how he got there, we know Sam deserves it!!!

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

I guess we can congratulate all the second team All-Americans on making First Team Sam Rodgers and every All-American in general for even being mentioned in the same breath.

This is a false story. Actually Sam allowed them to name him All-American. He felt second team would give others hope.

Seriously, a great honor for a great Hokie...and well deserved.

This is awesome news. Great representative of VT.

Part of me feels that this vote is based on that insane 4th quarter grab alone in that Clemson game.

Maybe this deserves it's own discussion thread: Does his jerseys get retired? He is a fan favorite, embodies everything about the universities attitude (Nice dude, walk-on to All-American, cult hero to the people) and the fanbase absolutely loves him. Thoughts?

The Dude Abides

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think everyone whose jersey has been retired won some sort of major national award.

Sam Rogers is a great player and will certainly be missed, but his contributions come from being good at a lot of things rather than amazing at something, like all of those whose names are hanging in the NEZ. I don't think we'll see him join them.

The only requirement is

This special honor is bestowed to acknowledge an individual who has won an established national award in their sport, while allowing the number to continue to be worn by others.

So, conceivably, but does second-team AA from one source constitute an "established national award?" Maybe if he's a consensus pick or racks up other accolades it might push him over the top. He's certainly a fan favorite and feel-good story, but probably needs some more hardware to really merit it.

Also I'm gonna be pissed if we don't put Tyrod's jersey up in lane before anyone else who didn't win a national award. He was ACC POY, has 3 ACC championship rings, an Orange Bowl victory, a CFA bowl victory, and was 34-8 as a starter, and that doesn't include 2007 Florida State that he single handedly won (but didn't take first snap) and does count 2008 Florida State where he was injured on the first play of the game and didn't play another snap. So adjusted it's more like 35-7.

I love Tyrod but he didn't come close to a Bruce Smith or Michael Vick-level career while at VT.

Take a look at the current list. I'd be hard pressed to put Tyrod above anyone of those guys...and there are other guys who deserve the honor more than Tyrod (e.g. Jimmy WIlliams, Kevin Jones)...don't get wrong, I love Tyrod but he wasn't a hall-of-fame level player.

What part of 3 ACC championships, ACC POY, and that record as a starter doesn't put him up with those guys? And keep in mind, my argument was that he deserved to go up there before anyone else who didn't win a national award so, Jimmy Williams and Kevin Jones over him??? He put hardware in the trophy cases, what about those two?

I'm seriously flabbergasted, I honest to god think you have no ground to stand on whatsoever with Jimmy Williams and Kevin Jones over him. Maybe some notoriety? A rushing record that has since been overtaken twice? Jimmy Williams isn't even the best corner from that era. I'll take Brandon Flowers 10/10 over Jimmy Williams.

On an unrelated note, I like your new avatar and adding the a.

Thanks. Well, I felt like it was time for a change (in more than one way).

Went ahead with the surgery, huh? /s
