This is great news for VT.

but but Whit is leaving VT for Baylor....

The endowed scholarships are a big deal. What a wonderful contribution from the Williams family.

Absolutely, Buzz gets it and I love what he's doing in Blacksburg,

It really shows an investment in the university and the community. I don't want to read too much into it, but it really seems like Buzz and the family have fully bought into VT.

I thought he was leaving for aTm? /s

Seriously...he's a good dude. Dude is just a dude, you know?

Now just stop all the talk about Buzz leaving soon......

The talk will continue, no doubt about it. As long as he keeps winning at VT, Buzz will remain a hot commodity and his name will be linked to several high-profile job vacancies every year. All this really does is limit the pool of schools that could poach him away to those with pockets deep enough to pay the buyout. (I'm assuming there is a buyout clause here. Anybody heard any details on that front?)

The good news is, that if the pessimists are right and he does leave for greener pastures in the foreseeable future, we'll be far better suited to find a good replacement. The program will be in much better shape than it was before Buzz came to town, and the buyout should provide some ready cash to pay for a quality coach.

Edit: Looks like the buyout is addressed here: http://www.thekeyplay.com/virginia-tech-basketball/2016/07/12258/buzz-wi...

The buyout starts large but gets small fast.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Starts at $1.5M this year and tapers down to $250k in 2021-2022

$1.5M isn't much, is it?

Here are the schools I would be concerned about:
Schools that would get him easily, but will never call him: Duke, UNC, UVA, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Kansas, Mich St.

Schools that would get him and may call him: OU, Texas, aTm, Arizona, UCLA, Indiana, Ohio St, Michigan, Syracuse, Louisville

Schools that may call him and tempt him: LSU, Bama, UF, UGA, Tennessee, Arkansas, Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue, Iowa, So Cal, Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Ariz. St, Villanova, Georgetown

The scholarship implication is bigger than the buyout, IMO. That takes out most if not all of this last tier. But if Indiana parts with Crean next year and looks to Buzz, that buyout and scholarship won't matter. If I had a top 3 to worry about, it would be Indiana, Louisville and Ohio St.....with monitoring Kruger's health at OU closely.

I was a little surprised at how low the buyout is in the final year (only $250k). But then again, if Buzz and Whit are both still happy with the arrangement, I'm sure another extension will be in place well before then.

Nice, looking forward to more years of the ridiculously overpriced but awesome sweater!

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
