VT Wrestlers Edged Out By NC State For ACC Championship

Although the 3rd ranked Hokie grapplers came home in second place in the ACC for the second year in a row, they did grab two individual championships and automatically qualified 8 for the NCAA championships coming up in less than 2 weeks. There are still some at-large bids yet to be determined. Joey Dance & Zack Zavatsky took the two wins while NC State left with the 1st place trophy.

Damn

Who were the two that missed out on NCAA auto-bids? I'm guessing Mastriani was one, but I thought the others all made the cut.

Gustafson. Needed 3rd, got 4th

Gustafson is ranked #27 in the country. Any chance he gets an at-large bid?

According to the breakout on HokieSports, it was Mastriani and Gustafson. Coach Dresser said that while his guys performed at their best, NC State was the better team yesterday.

Damn. It looks like they have decided on the at-large bids to the NCAA tourney (seeding has not been announced) and neither Gustafson nor Mastriani were invited. I'm not terribly surprised about Mastriani, but I thought Gustafson would've made the cut. Still, having 8 wrestlers qualify is no small feat. Great season for the good guys!
