Yes, this started as a joke, but I thought I'd put this up and see what happens.
There have been multiple people saying that they would join The Key Players Club if they could give monthly, but just can't swing $84 all at once. There are others who could front $84 a couple times, but only if we were assured of getting paid back. So what I'd like to see is a meeting of these two groups.
So here's how this is gonna work. If you want to be a beneficiary of this set up, please post your contact information. If there is someone who wants to be a lender, initiate contact with the borrower to work out how you want to handle the transactions. The lender will reply to the initial post so other potential lenders know something's being worked out. How the two of you arrange this hand off is completely up to you.
An example of how I think this could work:
User A posts a need for a loan along with his email address.
User B contact User A offering a loan and posts below the request.
User A removes his email address from the post.
User B, in an email, offers to send $84 via paypal once User A joins TKPC in return for $7/month for a year remitted via paypal.
User A agrees and joins TKPC with his own credit card.
User B sees the key next to User A's handle and sends the money.
User A sets up a recurring paypal transfer of $7 to pay back User B over time.
Obviously this is completely on the honor system and sending money is always at your own risk. Participation is completely voluntary and peer-to-peer.
Same rules apply as the ticket exchange thread:
Understand that Orange and Maroon Media, LLC is exempt from any liability from transactions that are initiated here, and will not assist in brokering any transactions.
The best way to exchange email addresses is to encode them, for example: joe [AT] thekeyplay (dot) com.

If you wanna make this thing a full fledged bank I'm in.
Headline: Loan Sharks invade TKP
This one trick will keep TKP alive.
You won't believe what happens next!!
"Yeah, I had both knee caps broken...but I'm a member now so... GO HOKIES"
Luca Brasi says; "And I break-a ur knee with a base a ball bat."
yeah, but Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes
So the proposal is to have some people put up the money for others to join TKPC, and then have those debts repaid "on the honor system".....
As they say...
Yeah, I don't see that going over well at all. Personally, I know I would never, ever put up the money like that for someone else unless I either knew the other person very well, or had a binding contract under which the repayment needed to be made. And once we get to that point, you're going to place legal liability on TKP to keep these contracts valid, and to enforce them when they're broken, which costs money... Which would defeat the purpose of doing this...
I just don't see a plan like this legitimately viable in any sense.
If you have to finance an $84 purchase. You shouldn't be making said purchase.
The heart is in the right place here, but this is a half-baked idea at best.
Hey guys! This holiday is coming up where people you love will give you gifts that you want!
Tell grandma that while you love the sweaters you've gotten the last few years, what you really want is $84 to purchase a year subscription to this site.
I agree you shouldn't be financing it, but it's your grandma, ferchristsakes!
Wear those sweaters with pride! Maybe get her to embroider a VT on them.
I don't think it's a bad idea. If you don't feel like fronting for somebody... Don't... I could see some messy situations arising but my feelings are I'd rather just pay for someone to join no strings attached if I could. $84 is very different to different people.
This is a great thought but the site should just offer a monthly subscription. I understand the thought that people might just join for football season but that's when you just need to think of a way to keep them. And if they leave after 4 or 5 months? You at least got an extra 40 or 50 bucks that you didn't have before.
Or maybe just a gift/sponsor feature like ign/reddit. Where you could anonymously gift someone you deem worthy.
I might not get into the loan business, but I would be interested in possibly paying the first year subscription for a student, as a pay-it-forward thing.
Or set up a tiered membership plan with different giving levels and perks with a reduced rate for students.
Rev, I like your ideas.
