I've said it before and I will say it again. Angela Tincher was arguably the finest athlete VT has ever had.
Her to Team USA that day:

Wasn't this game within a couple months of her not making the Olympic team for 2008?

I believe you are correct.

Me too!. I played FP softball for too many years and her rise and drop were fantastic. Her command of where her pitches went was top shelf. I would not of touched her.

If you want to get to the meat of the vid skip to 17:00 or 26:00.

As I remember, making Team USA was timing. They were loaded with older pitchers (tenure) and then the Olympics scratched softball and added bowling.

She was great and the only reason they did not go further in the CWS is the offence. Could not hit! Amazing! Last time I saw her was in a Pro game.

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

When did James River become a small school?

Tincher went to James River in Buchanan, VA. Small single-A school. Not the one in Richmond.

Jenny Finch though...

There are wolves and there are sheep, I am the sheep dog

Al Brauns did a nice job coaching....but his most important job was owning The Balcony....

I remember her in high school. I wish I still had the papers. She had god knows how many perfect games. She is originally from Covington but transferred to James River. Those Single A teams in Virginia didn't have a prayer in heaven.

It's a shame that such talent isn't rewarded monetarily.

Well, she is VT's pitching coach now, so she is getting some compensation, but, yea, probably not so much.

I'm from the Covington area and my sisters played with/against her in little league. Nobody stood a chance at actually hitting her, so they would max out a pitching machine and practice blindly swinging so they would maybe get lucky and make contact.

Danny is always open

I remember watching this team in the CWS that year. My family taped one of the Michigan games because my sisters were really beginning to get into softball at the time, and it was such an awesome game to watch. She actually grew up about 30 minutes away from where I grew up when she was in Covington. I never had the pleasure of watching her play, but I can only imagine what she did to the other single A schools across VA, especially in her district.
