VT vs NCSU basketball roll call(?)

Anyone else headed to the game tonight? Man with this late tipoff, I'm not sure what to expect with this one. 9pm? C'mon, that's a little absurd, especially for a game that isn't even on ESPN.

That said, anyone who still wants to come, tickets are going for as low as $6 on StubHub, and I'm sure they'll essentially be giving them away outside the PNC Arena tonight. Anyone else already planning on coming to the area? If so, any gathering spots for Hokies before the game? Normally, we meet up at Leesville Tap Room for Hokie related stuff in the area, but that's way too far from the Arena to make it worth it tonight. Perhaps the Backyard Bistro?

My office is less than a mile from PNC, so I will be there!

I'm driving up from Pinehurst! Down to go somewhere prior to the game. Where y'all sitting?

I'm way up top in I want to say 336. $6 each, and under $20 total after the StubHub fees. I tried to get something lower, but the tickets we were selecting kept coming up as invalid, I guess there was an issue with the website.

That said, I figure with the time of this game, probably worth it to bring some extra cash and see if we can get a good deal on better tickets on the way to the stadium. The scalpers usually hand out on the road right between Carter-Finley and the Arena for events, if you want to try them out as well.

I think I'll be hitting up Backyard Bistro on Trinity before the game. Might get out there between 7 and 7:30.

Going to be a tough road game for the Hokies. NCST has some ballers. If we can win this by 15 I'll jump through the roof.

I'm really looking forward to Iterpeter2000's preview on this one. Looks like they haven't beaten anyone of note and have had a few close ones to teams I haven't heard of, but they can put up some points; 83/game

NC State without Cat Barber doesn't scare me at all.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I love what this team is doing, but I still don't know how to react to this whole successful basketball team thing. Therefore, everyone in the ACC still scares me as a fan

The PNC Arena (formerly RBC Center, formerly Entertainment and Sports Arena) has been a bit of a house of horrors for us. Even in our better years under Greenberg, we just couldn't manage a win in there to save our lives.

They have Dennis Smith Jr. (projected lottery pick) running the point now.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Yeah, okay, but does he have a sweet ponytail?

Or how about a killer man bun?

Cat Barber has essentially been replaced for this season by Dennis Smith Jr. who will likely be one and done.

I imagine he could do anything he wanted to and more. Even give a good dye job. Lets not get him motivated to show us. That can wait for their third ACC game.

Their bigs are going to be a handfull, but from reading the local news here in Raleigh, we present a very difficult matchup for them, because they aren't exactly the quickest on defense, and teams who play like VT tend to be their kryptonite. There's almost near universal agreement that if a) we weren't coming off a huge win over Duke, and b) this wasn't a 9pm tipoff, we probably win, but because teams historically struggle after a win over Duke or UNC in ACC play, and because the road team tends to always play poorly in a 9pm tip, they're predicting a NCSU win.

Personally, I think its an odd one to call. The 9pm start is the big unknown, but that said, NC State got called out very publicly by Gottfried after the loss to Miami saying (and I quote) they thought they could show up in their cool coats and just win. The Pack has been a bit of a mess this year, unable to really gel as a team, so you'd think that should work to our favor, but I could see them having their best game of the year after that kind of public lashing.

Sounds good to me. I have blind faith that Buzz can refocus the team after the Dook W, but the 9PM thing really bothers me though.

I'll elaborate a little on that. Their bigs are good, and if they can get in rhythm, we could be in trouble. There's a reason they were predicted to be a darkhorse contender for the ACC this season, but it just hasn't come together, yet.

Keep an eye on Yurtseven, the 7 foot transfer from Turkey. He's the uber-prospect they brought in this year, but hasn't really been able to get going because of his suspension to start the year. Right now, he's just not used to the college game, and he seems to be out of sorts, but they're expecting really big things from him this year, and many are expecting him to be the catalyst for them taking the next step in ACC play. We are fortunate that we are their 2nd ACC game, because he's the kind of player who could tear us a new one later in the year.

Another player to keep an eye on is Beejay Anya because he's a freakin 6'9 320lb offensive lineman playing effective basketball minutes for them. You're not driving the paint on him, mainly because he'll just damage your soul by doing so.

That said, reading up on the local takes, their biggest weakness is their ability for their bigs to spread out and defend the perimeter. While they may have size on us, our talent is far more versatile than theirs and should present plenty of opportunities for us to score. I would think a similar gameplan that we used against Duke should work against this team. If we can stretch their defense, we'll be able to beat their size with our speed in finding the gaps in their defense for easy looks. That said, this is a road game in ACC play, so its going to be tough to get the win.

I love this about our team. None of the Erick Green/Malcolm Delaney stuff of years past. Those guys were great, but the teams around them didn't have any versatility.

We just need to buckle up and get use to it. The ACC is a bloodbath this year. Outside of BC, pretty much every team is at least competitive despite their records and there's as many as 11 to 12 legitimately "good" teams. Home or road, there are very few games where I'd say "yeah, that's a W" or conversely, I won't say "Wow. I can't believe we lost to them".

How do you watch the game if it is on the ACC Network?

WatchESPN, ESPN3 or whatever they are calling it today

Are you sure it's not going to be blacked out? I thought ACC Network games were blacked out on ESPN3.

Depends on if it is broadcasted locally on one of the ACC Network affiliates.

Have been trying to figure this out for three days.

Unless you live in the area, then it may be blacked out since it should be on local Raycom (I think). In that case, and if you have cable, then you should be able to watch no problem.

I am a cord cutter, so...
I have an antenna, and that works pretty well if WatchESPN is blacked out OR you could use a IP mirror add-on to google to make it seem like you live somewhere else.

Try Roku.

Which channel do I need to download on Roku to view it? ESPN(s) I already have. But it's saying it's on ACC network which is a CBS affiliate in DC area.

I watch on the "watchESPN" app on Roku, and scroll down to "browse by sport" and select "NCAA men's basketball". It is then item 15/100 under "live and upcoming".

(edit: But it's also playing on MyTV out of D.C. up here in Woodstock, so I'll be watching there. Right now my Roku option is just "go back", not sure if it's blacked out or if they'll add the "watch now" button near game time. Good luck in your endeavors.)

Thank you, friend. I'm a Roku Rookie.

It's too bad (or a good thing?) that I know how to look for it. The first thing you see is "live", but it only lists 10 matchups and never the one I'm looking for. Always keep drilling down with Roku and it will turn up eventually.

I've had trouble watching games that are broadcast on the ACC network via the WatchESPN app on Roku. (At least live. I've been able to watch them the following day though.) I Subsrcribed to SlingTV on my Roku ($20/mo for 25 channels or so, including ESPN 1, 2 and 3 plus the ACCN) and have been able to watch games that way.

It'll be on the CW in the Richmond area

Whatever channel picks up the ACC Network in your area, for me I think it is the CW, or maybe WGNT

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

actually, in the 757, the TV Guide has WTKR broadcasting the game tonight

I'm from the 757, live in the 252 now, OBX...it could still be WTKR for me though. I'm not sure, I jsut know it is on tv, and I've got the DVR set up, though I will be watching live too.

I'll be down in the triangle to visit family this weekend. Hopefully we'll have beaten 2 of the 3 teams by then. Go Hokies!

You guys should come a bit further and go to the beach!

I'm leaving Blacksburg around 3 to make it down for the game with plenty of time

My apartment is a 15 minute walk and got a ticket for less than $10 off of stubhub. Hope my first game of the year doesn't jinx the team

I knew there were some similarities between our programs, but 15 minutes from Lane? Wow.

Little known fact: NC State actually plays basketball at War Memorial Hall.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Its a 30 minute walk then with a stop by West End

I'll be there with my 2 brothers and dad.

Any idea what channel it will come in in LOLcharlottesville ???

WVIR/NBC

It's. it showing up in the Comcast guide or online from searching wvir. Maybe they are flexing it in instead of law &I order?

It might be on CW29 if it's not on their NBC channel.

Lynchburg has it on 21.2 and 27.1, but I'm pretty sure those are Roanoke stations so likely not applicable to cville.

I'll be there with a few other Hokies and some NCSU alums.

I don't know - all the NCSU alum I speak to down here don't care enough about sports. Of the 20 or so alum I know only 1 is going.

NCSU just doesn't have the same school spirit VT has. Most of the NCSU people I know are pretty "meh" about having gone there.

On the other hand, I myself have only been to like 3 VT basketball games in person. So I don't know, maybe it's understandable.
