Here's to hoping the guys do well in the ACC Tourney today. Wrestling in Raleigh.
Is there a way to find out which wrestlers are scheduled on which mats? The ACC Network Extra feeds are split and I can't find a definitive schedule.
Twitter! @VT_Wrestling always tweets links to the feed that the Hokie wrestler is coming up on.
Have to watch on PC and phone!
Pic is good but frustrated with scoreboard only score and period. No rank or ride time.
Softball took 2 of 3 from the BooHoos this past weekend:
Friday - W, 13-5 in 6 innings
Saturday - L, 7-8
Sunday - W, 5-1
The ladies are now 10-6 overall, 2-1 in conference play and have added another point to our Commonwealth Clash lead (currently we lead 9-6). Their next games are at Coastal Carolina today at 6 PM and at South Carolina tomorrow at 6 PM. They then return to Tech Softball Park for a series against FSU this weekend.
We may lead 9-6, but out of the 7 points remaining, UVA won those sports 6-1 last year and 5-1 the year before (we didn't have a women's golf team 2 years ago).
We'll have to take 2 of those 7 this year to force a tie, or 3 to take a win.
well, we've never done better than 7 points in the two years since they
realized that the commonwealth cup isn't really a competition and they had to manufacture another metric to make the schools seem competitivestarted the clash. So there's that.It is a little depressing to see that a chunk of the remaining sports are so very LOLUVa, rife with wine and cheese party tailgating opportunities (golf, tennis, lacrosse). Here's hoping for a sweep of track and field and maybe the upset in baseball...
Ahhhhhh now I understand! By "just wait until basketball season" they really meant "just wait until women's golf season"
I think we can get both track and field points. We might be able to win in women's lacrosse or baseball (anything can happen in 1 game)
Baseball is a Best of Three series for one point, so it has to be "anything can happen in two of three games". Track is based solely on which team places higher in the ACC Championships. Same for golf.
The ladies took a 6-4 loss to the Chanticleers yesterday (who improved to 17-3).
Starter Carrie Eberle only made it through 2 innings, giving up 4 earned runs on six hits with 1 strikeout and 1 walk.
Aysha Richardson took over in the bottom of the third with Coastal up 4-0 and would wind up pitching 4.2 innings, striking out 7 while walking 4.
The team tied it up in the fifth inning at 4-4 and looked to take the lead with a runner on in the top of the 7th but fell victim to a double play.
Richardson got the first two outs in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't get that third one, giving up a double followed by a homer and the walk off win to the Chanticleers.
Tech softball now sits at 10-7 with a visit to South Carolina today at 6 PM.
Another tough loss for the ladies last night.
(All stats per the hokiesports box score)
Taylor Barnes got the start last night and went 3.2 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits while walking 4 with no strikeouts, and was relieved by Carrie Eberle. Eberle went 2.2 innings, fanning 2 but gave up 3 costly walks in the seventh inning.
Olivia Lattin hit her first career triple in the 4th inning and came in to score when Emma Strouth reached on a fielder's choice, giving Tech a 1-0 lead. Jessie Mehr walked to first, giving the Hokies 2 runners on base but two fly balls brought a close to the inning for the Hokies.
In the bottom of the 4th, the Gamecocks tied it up. Victoria Williams led it off with a double but Barnes was able to get the next two batters out before walking the South Carolina third baseman Kamryn Watts. Mackenzie Boesel and Krystan White followed it up with singles to bring in Williams and tie the game at 1-1.
Chelsea Whitcomb lead off the 5th with a single, stole second, and advanced to third courtesy of a throwing error by South Carolina's catcher after Vanessa Gonzalez earned the free pass. Breanna Davenport hit into a fielder's choice, bringing in Whitcomb and giving the Hokies the lead again 2-1. The Hokies looked to pull away as Lattin got a free pass immediately after. A passed ball moved her to second and Davenport to third. Another walk to Strouth had the bases loaded with two outs but it wasn't to be as Mehr hit a ground ball right at the Gamecock's first baseman.
In the 6th inning, Tech increased their lead to 3-1 courtesy of a Lauren Duff solo homer.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Hokies needed three outs to come away with the win. A leadoff single by the SCAR first baseman, Kaylea Snaer, was followed up by a walk to Kennedy Clark and a wild pitch let both runners advance. Taylor Williams brought in Snaer with a sac fly to center field and narrowed Tech's lead to 1. V. Williams earned the free pass as did Shannon Plese, a pinch hitter brought in for the catcher Lex Hull, loading the bases with only 1 out. Tiara Duffy, the center fielder, hit a single to the left side that allowed Jordyn Augustus, pinch running for Clark, and V. Williams to score and gave the Gamecocks the walk off win 4-3.
Tech now sits at 10-8 overall after losing consecutive games for the first time this season. They went 2-3 on this five game road trip but took the series from the BooHoos, which is always nice.
The ladies have their home opener this Friday as No. 2 FSU comes into town. The first game Friday has a first pitch time of 7 PM.
Go Hokies
So humor. I had a UVA fan point out this morning that Tech is leading the COUNTRY in home runs at baseball.
If only that kept us from getting swept by Binghamton.
y u do dis? :(
Indoor track and field: Women finished 27th in Nationals. Men stayed at 7th to end with a single digit ranking.
Hokieball beat #1 Florida State yesterday and are wailing on them 9-0 in the bottom of the 6th right now.
Edit: Make that 11-0 after a two run homer.
DINGERS
How did the baseball team sweep #1 FSU but get swept by Binghampton ?
We went 2-1, but your point stands. Especially since we hung 17 on them today without giving up a run.
Nolies resting their starters? Or maybe a special on crablegs?
