CBS: "2017 NFL free agency: Browns primed to land Tyrod Taylor"

Link (*le sigh)

League sources said the Browns have significant interest in Taylor as a free agent. Taylor has strong ties to some on the Browns staff already and if/when he hits the open market I would be shocked if the Browns don't make a real push for him. Many in the league believe that's where he will end up -- he's young and athletic and protects the football and has upside. That would allow the Browns to take the two best players available with their two first-round picks -- beginning with Myles Garrett first overall.

I believe in the lord and savior Tyrod Taylor. He can do it.

People said we were going to lose the Nebraska game too.

But we won both. I think I remember watching the game and the broadcast had a stat that VT was something like the 4th or 5th team ever to WIN in Lincoln for a night game. Anybody else remember that stat?

Pour some Beer on it

On one hand, this makes me really sad and worried.

On the other hand, if he turns around their offense and brings their efficiency numbers WAY up like he did in Buffalo two seasons in a row, it'll further prove his detractors wrong.

Agreed, if this does come to fruition, I will be rooting for the Browns to make a playoff appearance and the Bills to go winless.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Just imagine if he would somehow lead them to the playoffs? He'd instantly be the second most popular athlete in Cleveland.

Also seeing reports now that the Jets are keeping a close eye on the situation. If Tyrod goes to the Jets, nothing would please me more than to see a playoff run for the Bills division foe and yet another playoff-less year for the Bills.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

So why is Jacksonville not getting in on this dumpster fire party?

I would much rather Tyrod go to Cleveland than Jacksonville. They might be the biggest dumpster fire.

Dude i would be so happy if he went to Jacksonville and would by a jersey the next day. He would love having Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns to throw to, but they really need to address that garbage o-line this offseason or he'd be running for his life every Sunday. Not gonna happen though...

That O-Line is why Cleveland is a better landing spot.

Solid point and hope/assume he's thinking about that aspect as well.
Of course as a Jags fan i'd like to point out that they just traded away Julius Thomas and now need a TE. Please...

I love Bucky as much as anyone, but the Jags need a TE ready to play next year. That's not Bucky, at least in the "in every base package" sense.

Tyrod made a deal with the Devil for his football talent. The Devil tries to collect his due but TT keeps eluding him.

In 76 years, TT finally confronts him. The Devil demands payment or he'll take Tyrod to Hell.

Tyrod replies, "Please. I've been to Baltimore, Buffalo, and Cleveland. Where are you gonna take me that's worse?"

Might be time to by a new Browns jersey!!! Come on Tyrod! Save Cleveland and be immortalized in football lore!

At least he's been in the league long enough to get the sweet retirement deal.

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

The Browns have a TON of cap space and have needed a QB sooo badly for soooo many years, I think they will make Tyrod the highest offer.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Tyrod has shown in his last move that the highest offer isn't necessarily what he's going after. Denver reportedly offered him more money than Buffalo did. I think he goes to the best team where he knows he can be a starter.

For as much as they suck, I kinda like the Browns and would love to see them take that division over (I know, I know).

And if I have faith in anyone to make them relevant, it's #5.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

In all honesty, the browns made no secret that they wanted to suck it up this past year. They have some weapons, not a lot and they have some quality picks. I would be surprised if Tyrod switched to the Browns and they were identical to the Buffalo team he just left. That division is on the way down anyway.

"Welcome to the Terror Dome." -- Corey Moore

I actually have a lot of faith in their front office to turn it around. Sashi Brown and Paul DePodesta are typically two of the smartest people in any room...yes their first year was a dumpster fire but there's only so much you can do in one season.

I actually like the move for Tyrod. You have all-Pro Joe Thomas protecting your blindside and you have a possible breakout star in Terrell Pryor. Hue Jackson has a good track record w/ developing QBs and you have a front office that's smart as balls. Couple that with $$$ and low expectations, I think it's not a bad option.

I agree there are worse places for Tyrod to end up.
Granted he won't win a ring in year one, but the Browns have picks and money; what they don't have is a QB. Any QB that comes in and throws 20 TDs and less than 10 INTs will be hailed as a franchise savior and the best thing since Testeverde (And yes, that was a compliment.)

Then again, I thought the same thing when he landed in Buffalo...

"It's a Hokie takeover of The Hill ... in Charlottesville!" -Bill Roth

That was before Rob and Rex decided to destroy one of the better defenses in the NFL.

Wrong QB from The U....I think you meant Kosar.....but I get your point. The Browns would be a perfect landing spot for Tyrod. Ravens and Bengals are trending down and the Browns actually have good, young players on offense and defense....(Pryor, Coleman, Crowell, Johnson, Collins, draft picks). And the best thing is after going 1-15 the expectations are low....

I'd venture to say that if Bills cut Tyrod and the Browns sign him that the Browns will likely have a better season. With in-laws from Buffalo though I hope Bills keep Tyrod, think it would be dumb for them to get rid of him.

Joe Thomas and Pryor have already been mentioned as well on offense there's Corey Coleman and Duke Johnson that have talent that could be developed. There's plenty of cap space to a couple of veteran OL. On defense getting Jamie Collins to re-sign was big and of course adding Myles Garrett will be huge. Also because the Browns were horrible in 2016 the NFL will schedule them a favorable schedule.

Either way I'm rooting for Tyrod to end one of the longest playoff droughts in the NFL (the Bills drought is longer).

Honestly, I think the Browns have changed and are poised to make a comeback over the new few years. They started from absolute rock bottom last year, but have some nice pieces and a lot of draft picks and the management that took over last year is aggressive and highly analytical. I could see this working out.

Gross. Well i hope he at least gets paid handsomely if he takes that gig.

If the Browns are smart they are picking up a free agent QB and picking quality with their picks. Hopefully the two best OL and DL prospects. Sadly the non-skill position first round picks end up doing better in the long run.

The general consensus amongst Browns fans at the moment is that Tyrod would be an excellent stopgap QB until they develop either Cody Kessler / the guy they draft this year. As a fan of both teams this would make me real happy. I wouldn't be surprised if RG3 was cut and Tyrod signed in the upcoming weeks.

Tyrod would be an excellent stopgap QB until they develop either Cody Kessler / the guy they draft this year. pull their heads out of their collective asses and just hand him the starting job until he decides to hang up the cleats.

I'm all for that my friend. Hopefully hes successful wherever he ends up.

The advanced QB analysts I follow, like Cian Fahey, would shit bricks if they knew people genuinely thought Cody Kessler would develop into a better QB than Tyrod, and that anyone would consider him a "stop gap" for a QB of Kessler's ceiling.

tl;dr: People who know what they are talking about love Tyrod. Talking heads on the radio and dumbass fans think he's bad.

We've reached the point where we need a TL;DR for a one-sentence post.

And that TL;DR is two sentences.

What a time to be alive.

Onward and upward

Didn't even realize that. Probably could have made the first one two sentences, but either way, didn't really need the TL;DR at all.

No, no, no, it's that your TL;DR needed its own TL;DR.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Lol, Tyrod is way better than Cody Kessler, and has experience and more upside than anyone available in this year's weak QB draft class. Hilarious that they view him as a short-term stopgap option at QB. Tyrod has proven to be a very capable starter in the league. You can't name 32 QBs better than him. In the right system, he can lead a team to the playoffs.

it should be noted that we're talking about Browns fans.....

Onward and upward

I agree with you, just echoing what the fanbase feels at the moment. Tyrod would be an instant upgrade over all options we have had in the last few years. Kessler is a career backup at best

I think the bigger issue in this post is that man just dropped 3 perfectly made tasty pizzas...

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

The Browns are very similar to the Sixers right now. Make fun of them all you want now, because in 3-4 years you won't be. If Tyrod goes there, it may seem like a terrible fit, but he would be their best QB in 10 years or so and they are continuing to add top talent in the draft year in year out. It may take awhile, but I could see Tyrod having some success there down the road.

Let's just say I think the Browns are in a better situation than the Jets or 49ers right now, two teams that could potentially be interested in Tyrod as well.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

And with the 33rd Pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select Isaiah Ford, WR, Virginia Tech.

can they also trade for LT3 at TE?

I'll say it - The browns have a more optimistic future than the bills. Better front office and head coach, more assets and Lebron's in the same city so being in Cleveland is trendy for athletes at the moment. Tyrod's biggest issue in Buffalo was having a foot-sniffer for a head coach, his mentally challenged brother for a defensive coordinator, a revolving door of offensive coordinators all while having to compete against the greatest coach and player of all time, twice a season. He won't have either of those problems in Cleveland.

Bills Mafia and the damn Pegula's don't deserve Tyrod.

To think, he was that close to being a Brown

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I was really nervous about clicking on that tweet and reading what negativity Bills fans were spewing about Tyrod, but pretty much all of the comments are extremely positive. Except for one guy who wants the Bills to draft Swag Kelly. But very surprising considering how much we've heard about their fans not appreciating him.

They probably warmed up to the idea of keeping Tyrod when it looked like the best they were gonna do otherwise would be Brian Hoyer/a rookie in a very weak QB class

I think you got it. The "negativity" the Bills had for TT near the end of the season was blatantly irrational. It was more about frustration over the general direction of the team, of which the quarterback is always the easy scapegoat. Now that the season is over, I'm sure the emotions aren't as high.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

I am deathly afraid of the situation where they draft Swag Kelly for several reasons. The fans in Buffalo understandably love Jim Kelly, and he has tremendous pull within that organization himself. If big arm, nephew of Jim Kelly is waiting on the bench during a bad game for Tyrod or a string of not great ones, the call for Kelly to be the starter will be enormous and in any other organization I wouldn't be worried about it. I will be watching the draft nervously until Kelly is off the board to another franchise.

Awesome, at least one more year of use before my Bills #5 jersey gets framed!

in a hilarious turn of events the Browns just took oswieler and a 2nd round pick with him to offload his contract for houston. safe to say tyrod is NOT going to cleveland

Yes, Browns are continuing their moneyball-esque strategy/building through the draft. On the surface it's like wtf, but they won this exchange big time, and I don't even know if Osweiler will be their QB.

The Browns have announced he is available for trade and that they have no intention of playing him as a QB.

this is the funniest nfl trade i think ive ever seen. cleveland is only gonna sit on him for a year, his cap hit is huge next year and theres no penalties. So basically houston said we cant even survive 1 more year with this guy

Reports are that Cleveland may have brought him in for the sole purpose of upgrading draft picks, at the expense of having a bit less cap space to play with this year. #Sauces say that there's a significant chance the Browns don't plan to keep him.

They are in the process of completely overhauling the roster, so it makes sense to focus on maximizing your draft picks.

They are doing something that is really common in the NBA by eating another team's stupid contract to acquire assets. It's really smart when you have a ton of cap space (Browns have over $100 mil) and there's no way you'll spend that much.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

Brown management did a damn good job with that trade. They were going to be in trouble from being to under the cap, so they just blew 20 million and are now trying to trade him away for more picks.

Brilliant move. They essentially traded empty cap space for draft capital, good stuff. Kind of wish Tyrod ended up there now.

As I've said before, I have a general fondness for the Browns, and want them to turn this into the awesome move everyone says it is.

However, this has been happening for years. 3 years ago I was saying that the Browns had so much talent on the roster, it was wild that they couldn't win even without a good QB. Somehow, they always remain in the cellar. For me, this is wait and see. They're set up to load their ranks and be a good team, but will they is a whole other question.

22 picks in the next two years is a great place to start, just gotta land on a few of them. They also significantly upgraded the offensive line today as well

For what it's worth this is only year 2 for the new management, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.
