While its great that the Hokies rank so high in the initial rankings with several strong wins in their early resume, also take into account that Ohio State is the #1 team in the rankings. The Hokies should continue to be highly ranked but this is a new ranking system and has some serious flaws. Duke ranks 6th, Kentucky 61st, Texas Tech is higher than every team in the ACC outside of LOLUVA. This is another indication that this kind of ranking really should wait to be revealed until later in the season, similar to how the CFP rankings are delayed.
The Article at least does a decent job of explaining how we got to where we are in terms of ranking scoring parameters.

I am still stunned about this. I knew we would have a strong team, but I am not used to basketball talked about in Top 10 language and am almost a little uncomfortable with it. Here's to hoping for another strong showing against Pedo St.
Its funny. I was listening to the radio here in Raleigh talk about these rankings, ripping into the absurdity of where some teams are ranked, and I fully expected them to rip into us.
Nope, outside of mentioning us in the Top 10, they didn't even touch on the Hokies in their rant, meaning, even down here, there is a general acceptance that... yeah, Virginia Tech has a damn good team this year.
