VT, #22 this week in the AP Poll

#22 this week!

I know we hate that 5 went down, but if we want to stay a tournament team, we are going to have to hope that Hill and NAW can step up, and Kerry can stay out of foul trouble. Else this season might sour quickly.

Let's get behind the boys for the remainder of the season, let's go Hokies!

If I had a nickel for every time I said "This is going to be the game that KJ stops committing stupid fouls", I'd have enough to pay the NCAA UNC-levels of cash.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

If you had a nickle for everytime that was stated, we'd be able to pay off the NCAA UNC style to get Nolley back on the squad, smh.

Luckily, the committee often judges teams on their full-strength capabilities if they will be at full strength for the tournament (see Syracuse the year Boeheim was suspended). Unfortunately for us, we don't have a good OOC schedule to live on, Sports Illustrated today described it as "weak" and Bleacher Report called it "abysmal" when considering its impact on seeding. However, the Purdue win is looking better and better as they've moved up all the way to #12.

Go figure I read an article earlier today that said we were still in the tournament hunt (I think we're more of a bubble team). In my head I'm saying with the slate that we have left, the subpar out of conference schedule, and the minimal number of warm bodies that we have available to us, it's an interesting take from the four letter mothership.

I think at this point we would have to lose all of our remaining games by double digits in order to miss the tournament

I didn't watch the show on Saturday afternoon, but I read the committee still had us in consideration for the top-16 when they released their rankings (pre-Clemson loss). We don't have any realistic chances for quality wins remaining unless we steal a win @FSU with or without 5, but we can certainly tread water against the rest of the schedule

If he comes back for the ACC tournament, we may get an opportunity for one or two

I was pissed when UK backed out of the game this year, which would've helped OOC scheduling, but getting a win against Washington as a replacement is also looking better and better. They should easily win the Pac-12 (likely with 2 or fewer losses) and be the favorites in their conference tourney, though that conference is garbage this year.

Oh shit I forgot about that game

That's fair. At this point, getting into the tournament is the goal, a good seeding is gravy.

I'm behind them with the realization that we're still a work in progress. Step one is getting starters that make us contenders. I think we've got good starters. Step two is depth. We're not there yet and I understand we may never have a JR and backup JR but we have a shot to have a JR and backup that keeps us in tough games. It's process and I'm confident.

PG is the issue for me this year. In the off-season, we thought that we'd have Blackshear, Sy, Clarke, and Horne as a front court rotation - I'd consider that more than adequate. But 5's backups are a sophomore coming off an 8 min/game freshman year, and a true freshman? And in extreme emergencies (i.e. NOW), NAW who is much better suited as a shooting guard and secondary ball handler.

I think I'd complain less if Bede is showing an improvement as he's played more minutes this year, but hasn't really shown a ton of promise consistently, except maybe some on the defensive end.

Bede has never been a floor general type player that Five is. He's a defense first, shoot second type of guard.

Always choose joy.
