2019 "I wanna go fast!" Thread

New year, new Racin' thread. January bring about the Rolex 24 and right after that we hop in to NASCAR Speedweeks. The Roar before the 24 is this weekend and it is making me a little itchy. Also, this year we should find out the 2020 NASCAR Schedule when many of the contracts are up and we should hopefully, finally see some date reorganization. Give me that Martinsville night race already!

Whatever. It was one bad year.

Seasonal Brew means High ABV for football season and standard the rest of the year.

I'm here for the memes, I just stay for the football.

why was this photoshopped with the same quote?

Honestly I can't believe Rolex sponsors a NASCAR race. Something tells me there are not too many fans in the NASCAR stands wearing a Rolex

Pssst...it's not a Nascar race.

It's a mixed field with different classes all racing at once.

They don't. The Rolex is IMSA(International Motor Sports Association), which is owned by NASCAR but Sports Car racing. It is quite a different crowd than NASCAR. Except for me of course.

So the football Schedule for this coming year leaves the dates open for Richmond Fall and Martinsville Fall. And just maybe since Duke is a Friday night, the Valleystar the night after it on that Saturday assuming the dates work out. I will take it.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

And Dega weekend is @GT. Not too shabby.

And I started digging into old Daytona 500s on youtube last night (it's that time of year lol). I miss the sound of the old cars so bad. Sounded like fighter jets in the packs.

Any other open wheel racing fans out there? I'll be heading down to COTA in Austin for the IndyCar race this year, and I have been to the Formula 1 race there the last 4 years.

COTA is a great track and if get the chance to go I highly recommend it (night life in Austin is awesome, and all kinds of great BBQ)

I have not been to the Moto GP race there yet but definitely want to give it a shot. Formula 1 race is awesome and always packed.

I like it all, but one of our friends is super into Indy. He has been trying to get us to go to the Indy 500 for awhile now. The Sportscar racing is the more casual side of it all for me. Formula 1 is amazing in person but I have trouble with on TV.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

I have been to the Indy 500 the last 3 years. My first year was the 100th running and it is absolutely insane. I highly recommend you find your way there for that race, it is definitely a spectacle.

I started watching F1 this year (something to do before the Cup race comes on) and I enjoyed it. The budgets those teams work of are staggering. Read a Business Insider article that said in 2014 that Ferrari's budget for that season was nearly $500mil. One season.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

MotoGP races are pretty awesome. We went for two years when they still raced at Indy. Haven't been to COTA yet but we did the race at Mugello last year and are going to Le Mans this year. Motorcycle races in Europe are unreal, it's a four day party that happens to have some races. I cant think of anything in the US that compares and no famous person here gets the amount of adoration that Valentino Rossi gets in Europe. When Rossi got pole last year there was so much yellow smoke being shot off at the end of qualifying by the spectators that you could barely see him going around the track.

Seems to imply that he's gonna be on a show today. Only NASCAR-related show on the schedule seems to be the Dale Jr Download at 5.

I feel like if it was a major racing-related announcement that it would be given at a press conference, not on a random TV show appearance.

So this is admirable, but goes right along in line with the actual "major announcement" I was expecting.

Most recent was good

Thursday is going to be spectacular. The Duels followed by this. I am ready!

This is an interesting read. Most notably about the 2020 schedule and the possibility of the Daytona 500 not being the season opener next year.

Daytona Media Day

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

Read that earlier today myself. Blown away that one is on the table...felt like that one was of the untouchable dates on schedule, like the Coke 600 on Memorial Day weekend.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I wonder if after the success if the ROVAL, they aren't thinking about doing it at Daytona. At that point I could easily see the 500 in summer under the lights, and the Rolex course being the second race.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

Even with attendance down for the July race, I couldn't see them doing that there. Pocono's a different story. I've read that they're willing to do it, so long as they get to keep their oval (troval?) race as well.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I absolutely agree they would not give up an oval race but wondered somehow if Daytona would end up with a 3rd week somehow...

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

They'll never do it but they need to dump that ROVAL crap, and get back to the roots of Nascar. Smaller tracks in the SE.

Did you even watch the Roval race? I thought it was one of the better races I've seen in a while. I think the bigger problem is that we have too many 1.5-mile ovals, more than that we have too few short tracks.

I saw the Roval and while it was interesting, I don't care for it as a next evolution of NASCAR. It's always been interesting to see the leader get wrecked on the last turn of any race. I do agree on the 1.5 tracks. The shift from short tracks and traditional tracks to the 1.5 tracks in the big markets has not worked out well for nascar or the fanbase.

Duel #1...LET'S GO!!

Well...#1 was uneventful. Let's see if #2 delivers.

Bottom line last night was sluggish for some reason. Man I hope they can figure that out before Sunday.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I think it will be different with 40 cars on track instead of around 20. If all 40 are in line single file around the top, I'll just have to drink more beer.

Logano's move at the end of the 2nd Duel was unreal though...

Chase Elliott earned a mountain of respect from me last night. It never really worked but damnit he was giving it all he had.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Sure hope that inside line comes in early on Sunday or it's going to be a long, boring 500 this year. Not much fun watching single file on the high line. Reminds me again why I love the 'Dega.

If it's a long boring 500, that's exactly why they need the Roval though, as disputed higher up in the thread. With sponsors and viewership dropping, Nascar needs to try and evolve or it risks being left in the dust.

VB born, class of '14

Not sure if its the adjustments to the cars, of if its the track, but if the inside line starts working it will def. be another great 500. If not, I would still rather see a super speedway race or a short track race, anywhere/any day. Old guy, don't like change, and don't care much for the Roval. After 20 or 25 years, I can finally tolerate the road course races, though not a big fan of them, either.

Last 20 laps were the worst part of the race. Slam it all together, sure, not bad, but just to go the college basketball route of the last 90secs lasting 30mins sort of killed what was otherwise a quick but very exciting race. I say it was a win overall for NASCAR.

This is the first time in very long time I've been excited for an Atlanta race. Very intrigued to see what this new package brings!

Edit: reading over that makes it sound like I didn't enjoy the race. I veryyyy much enjoyed it.

So it looks like ratings were up 8% from last year and up a whopping 30ish% in Boston and DC...no doubt Portnoy's involvement this weekend boosted those numbers. Says he'll be at Talladega and sounds like he wants to go to Bristol as well. The man is a spark plug and Nascar has been in need of one for a while.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

News: looks like Barstool is tripling down on Nascar. Going to Bristol (August) and Talladega (fall, likely) and are supposedly in talks to sponsor a car at both events.

Also found out last night (in an article from freaking September) that Sonoma is bringing back the carasel! Disappointed in how late I found out but super excited to see that thing in action.

Anybody else catch qualifying yesterday? They are literally running wide open around the entire track. The times are only down ~.6-.7, so it's nothing too drastic...but idk how I feel about it. I feel like tomorrow will either be the miracle Nascar has been searching for or an absolute disaster.

so im in somewhat of a fantasy nascar league, not like the regular pick your guys get points but its one of those you can only pick a driver once and at the end you round up all the points. so far being doing okkkkkkayyyyyy.

week 1 Daytona I picked harvick was good till the last lap on that one he was in 4th and pushing when he was wrecked.
week 2 atl I wont with brad K.
week 3 vegas I picked Larson who finished 12th.
any advise for next week? I may ask you guys weekly if you got some good advise lol. im not super knowledgeable in nascar 4 or 5 years ago I would have been but with so many young up and comers I have a hard time buying into some of their greatness like stenhouse, almirola, bowman, and blaney. Im a AD fan myself just because he drives the 3 car after that its logano.
the toughest thing is not using up all the front runner drivers early and then having to pick smithley for a race that he wont get through 30 laps of, so I have to try and manage when I pick my driver and try and find some diamond in the roughs for some tracks.

twitter @smithey_daniel

Daytona is a place where many drivers score their best finish of the season, and you go with a guy virtually guaranteed to win a lot of races this season at more predictable tracks?

I know. lol this is my first time doing this. I didn't research the Daytona race and ill admit I was a little inebriated when I made that pick because I forgot to get my pick in early and I was at the race lol. it was a pick in a panic.

twitter @smithey_daniel

Harvick owned Phoenix for about 5 years but hasn't been as fast there here recently, but he's still a smart pick. Chase Elliot has ran really well there in his short time in Cup. As much as people loathe them (not you though, weirdo) Logano and Kyle Busch are smart money anywhere on the circuit just about.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

personally really not a fan of the tapered spacer and 8" spoiler. I would love to know how the drivers and teams feel but i am sure they get fined if they speak out about it...such a boring race. These cars remind me of the CoT where they are way too stable. So many bumps and knocks and camera angles showing the cars whipping of the corners and actually jerking but never even coming close to losing control.

I am not sure what action they were hoping to achieve but it just seems like that huge air pocket can give you a big run but the side draft is ridiculously effective. In other words--you may not have the better car but if you can get a run and keep momentum while side drafting you can make a pass and then use those same effects to hold drivers behind you. Case in point, Kes on 2 tires for 18 laps holding everyone up.

I just hate the rule changes that do this. I get it, it sucked seeing Harvick win 19 races, and in many of those, he absolutely ran away with them. But guess what? He still didn't win the championship. There was still some awesome racing last year but right now, this aero package really bites.

Not a fan of this package at all. They're trying for pack racing (at least on restarts) because they think fans want clusters and wrecks. What I really want is a premium placed on driver ability rather than aero. Make drivers get out of the gas and you'll have good racing and plenty of passing. #MoreShortTracks

Druckenmiller the shotgun snap, fakes short, fires it deep into the end zone it is....caught! It is caught for a touchdown by Jermaine Holmes with 47 seconds left!

Yeah same. Have the 1.5 milers (Atl and Vegas) been more exciting? Hell yeah. Couldn't have been any worse lol do I feel like they taken a little integrity out of the sport with this package? Also, hell yeah. I think if they had that gargantuan spoiler on the car WITH the old horsepower...maybe we'd have something.

However...if there's one thing that will never be solved, is the pleasure of the fanbase as a whole. So...yeah, #MoreShortTracks. I've never heard anyone really complain after a Martinsville race, or least not since Gordon beat Dale Sr. there in, what? 99?lol

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I was perusing reddit where some nascar officials and team engineers will post sometimes to get their opinion on the matter. My understanding is that no matter what NASCAR does to downforce the engineers are so good that they will find a way, within the rules, to get their downforce back. So now NASCAR is giving an obscene amount of downforce but restricting horse power.

I think, like you said, the integrity of the sport has been taken out. As a fan of multiple sports what I enjoy is seeing the best of the best compete and continue to get better. I think in almost any sport that if you take the best team today and pair them against the best team 30 years ago...today's team would win 9/10 times. So I watch sports to see the constant improvement and pursuit of glory. Making racecars go slower intentionally seems to me to be completely in opposition to the point of sports altogether. There are records that currently will never be touched like Bill Elliott's speed records and Talladega and Daytona. As much as I like it that way (an Elliott fan) I can't help but feel NASCAR would be better suited on beefing up safety for fans so that no matter how crazy the wreck fans will be protected and then letting the teams go at it. I can't imagine how exciting a race at dega would be with all the cars exceeding 220 down the back stretch and then actually having to *gasp* brake going into the corners.

Back in the day, teams would occasionally take the restrictions plates off at the end of a test session (remember those?) just to see how fast they were, and they would routinely break 230 at the ends of the straights. And that's without optimizing gearing and everything for the higher speeds.

220 is child's play.

Growing up I almost never watched practices so I don't have any recollection of that. I would love to see it though! Do you think there are videos available?

I'm not talking about the practice sessions during race weekends. Years ago, NASCAR allowed teams to hold testing sessions on their own time, where they would essentially book the track for a day or two and hold a private practice session. They did away with that for cost-cutting purposes when attendance really started declining, probably a little less than a decade ago.

I don't think there's any video out there. At least, nothing official.

Storytime! So this was late 90s/early 2000s, my family's company was doing some work over at Martinsville and Rusty Wallace came in for a full day test session. They made them take an hour off at lunch, so Rusty came off the track and into the garage and his pitcrew went out on the track for their own test session...in the vans...that they had rented. After about 20-30 laps of hard racing, they had completely worn out their brakes and had to call it. They went down to the advanced auto/autozone/whatever, bought new brakes, brought em back and threw em on like nothing had happened.

Indycar season gets underway this weekend with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Race starts at 1:00 ET and is on NBCSN.

Said it last year during that race I'd love for Nascar to throw around the idea of a city race...probably would never work (more likely to neverrr happen) but it'd be cool as hell.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Yeah why not throw it in at Long Beach? They pretty much keep that course up for a whole month.

Anyway I'm happy Indy is going to be at COTA in a couple weeks, as I plan to attend. I also already have my tickets to the Indy 500 and of course will buy tickets for the Indy race at TMS in June since it is right in my backyard.

I have yet to go to a NASCAR race. It is something I need to experience.

3500 lb stock car could do a lot more collateral damage than a 1600 lb Indycar

So BIG NEWS, switching jobs. And Martinsville weekend will be in between! Actually I will most likely be in Martinsville on Wednesday looking for a good time.

He's so damn good. And I always forget how young he is...only 33. Feels like he's been racing forever. I wonder if Hendrick ever wishes he could've overlooked his hotheadedness early in his career? Those headaches would've had to been easier on him than the hits to The wallet that was the Casey and Kasey experiments.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Honestly, I think chemistry actually played a significant part. I'm not sure Hendrick knew how to reign in his personality enough. I mean, hell, he's the guy whose top drivers over the years have been Terry Labonte, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Dale Jr. He's never really had to deal with a hothead like young Kyle.

On the other hand, Gibbs coached in the NFL for years, and I'm sure Kyle's antics paled in comparison to some of the things he had to deal with there.

Ratings for Phoenix went up from a 2.81 to a 2.86 this year (nothing huge, but yay!). Indy had a .33 from St. Petersburg (yikes).

Nothing too huge from what I've seen. Daytona (July) to switch dates with Indianapolis making Daytona final race before the Chase (should be wild), finale moves from Homestead to Phoenix (I love Phoenix, but don't love taking the finale away from the SE), and possiblyyyy a DH at Pocono. I don't even know what this means

The remark or what is going on in the pic? Martinsville is expressing its displeasure that no ACC schools were represented in Talladega's size comparison. Martinsville Speedway is all about its local flavor which is the reason they are the best.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

I mean, I got that Dega was showing all of the SEC stadiums superimposed on their infield (though the scale is somewhat dubious, as the fields all look slightly different sizes...), and that Martinsville, being in the heart of ACC country, was repping their conference. But I didn't understand until just now that "chip" is short for "championship" 🀦

Final practice yesterday was faaast. Six cars with laps over 204mph.

13mph difference between single car and pack. Holyyy shit lol

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

So that was an incredible race. I appreciate that they wanted to finish under green, but holy cow you HAVE GOT to throw the caution there. Good way to get someone killed.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

If you're talking about the first incident, where someone wrecked just past the finish line, they had plenty of time to make the call before it became unsafe, so it was worth waiting to see if he could get clear from the track.

The second one, yeah, they knew they needed to throw it immediately and they did.

Definitely talking about Stenhouse smashing the wall right in front of the flagstand. Damned if you do situation I guess, but good lord that Larson wreck was scary.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

As a Chase fan I was hoping they would throw the flag for the Stenhouse wreck cause you just never know what the exit of turn 4 will hold. But from my understanding the caution was thrown for Stenhouse it just happened at the same time the Byron/Larson wreck occurred.

I would have to double check timing but it wouldn't make sense for the Byron/Larson wreck to have a caution since that would not affect the finish of the race (it was down the backstrech and in the infield side of the wall) nearly as much as stenhouse dropping debris across the front stretch.

Stenhouse's car ended up well beyond the start/finish line, with no other cars anywhere close. They wanted to wait to see if he could get it re-fired, and threw the caution when it became clear that he couldn't, which just happened to correspond with the big wreck on the backstretch. They almost certainly would have thrown the yellow anyway for the wreck on the backstretch, since I'm fairly certain that the policy is that the race must be under yellow for any safety personnel to enter the racing surface. And they would have wanted to send the safety vehicles out almost immediately, considering the level of impact some of those cars had with the inside wall (not to mention Larson's flips).

https://www.nascar.com/video/franchise/tuned-in/nascars-steve-odonnell-e...

They almost certainly would have thrown the yellow anyway for the wreck on the backstretch, since I'm fairly certain that the policy is that the race must be under yellow for any safety personnel to enter the racing surface.

Totally true and something I forgot about. What I meant to say (terrible at putting thoughts into words) was that there were people, not necessarily TKP, that didn't want the caution for stenhouse but wanted it for Larson. My argument was that between the two wrecks and the locations of said wrecks, the larson wreck would cause the least impact from a racing point of view. Obviously safety is paramount so that point is moot.

Group qualifying has been scrapped effective immediately. Doesn't hurt my feelings.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Does anybody even watch qualifying unless you're at the track already? Even then it's less "watching" and more "drinking".

Still, every time I see this thread I think about how I wish our offense went faster. After all the chatter about how much Fuente likes tempo on offense, it's disappointing that after 3 years this offense looks pretty much the same as it was before he was hired... Slow and disjointed

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I watch it if it's on because I like things that go fast...but to me the technology being used in and coming out of F1 is far more interesting than the actual racing product they put out.

Their pits are on NASA kind of levels. I read an article from Business Insider from like 2014 on the comparisons of Nascar, Indy and F1. The budgets they're working with are mind boggling. Ferrari had a yearly budget of like $470MILLIONNN for their teams.

**edit** Also, we'll be at VIR starting next Thursday, you should make the run down 58 and swing by!

Sometimes I hate how little of a meritocracy NASCAR is... in 184 starts before hiring DiBenedetto, LFR had a grand total of 7 top 10s, only one of which came without a restrictor plate (McDowell, 10th at Homestead in 2016 in one of two appearances of the #59 car). In 23 starts so far, DiBenedetto has 4 top 10s, including 2 top 5s: 4th at Sonoma, 8th at Daytona, 5th at NHMS, and 6th at the Glen, all in the last 8 races and mostly at technically difficult tracks.

Today, LFR announced that they will not pick up his contract option for 2020.

Damn, if only he could have pulled that one off. Also, if Newman hadn't been his normal stubborn self...

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I feel like death. Great race.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I know it's mostly NASCAR fans in this thread and I'm sure you are all recovering from Bristol but I am curious if anyone saw yesterday's IndyCar Pocono race and lap one crash. (I am a big Indycar fan) There is quite a bit of controversy surrounding the crash considering that Robert Wickens was paralyzed in a similar turn 2 crash last year where he got up into the fencing. A lot of the drivers are saying they should not go back to Pocono becuase it is just too dangerous for Indycar considering the nature of the track.

Here is the LINK

https://youtu.be/saOCEVYMBQs

Sorry I don't know how to imbed a youtube video.

Open wheel racing simply doesn't belong on oval (left turn only) tracks. Wayyy too damn fast. Wayyy too damn dangerous. Gotta spread those dudes out. End up with more deaths and injuries if they keep it up.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

There is some truth to this, but there series is built around one race on an oval, and it is considered one of the most iconic races in the world. That being said, there have been less oval races in the series in recent years with more road course races. I do loving going to the oval race at TMS since it is right here in my backyard. Max Chilton pulled out of the remaining oval races this year after the Indy 500 this year, stating that he felt it was too dangerous and he was not comfortable doing them. Pocono in particular has seem to been deemed particularly dangerous and a lot of drivers are coming out after this weekend stating that they hope Indycar does not go back.

I believe my body has completely recovered from Bristol now. Pretty damn solid crowd there for both Xfinity and Cup. It will never be what it was, but I was happy with how many showed up. Weather probably had a bit to do with that. First time in 5yrs we've been out there and not rain once the whole time.
The whole place went nuts when Dibenidetto (spellcheck that) took the lead.

Me and my old man are heading to Darlington Sunday morning at 9. Only second time we've been. Anybody else going?

I'd love to go, but I'm still recovering from VIR last weekend.

Thanks for this. When I was a kid my parents took me to eat at a restaurant in Stuart, and we ran into one of the Wood brothers. Sadly, I don't remember which one it was as I was like 8 or 9 at the time.

People always talk about how Martinsville Speedway is in the middle of nowhere. I had done forgot how far in the sticks Darlington is, holy hell. Great tailgating crowd so far!

I also see a Tech flag way off in the distance. I wonder if they'll let me cry on their shoulder.

I mean martinsville is still technically a City lol

Well damn, are they even going to get this in tonight? I didn't think the chance of rain was very high.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

Starting this at 10pm lol doesn't get any better.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

So, damn near everyone in the tailgating lots went to the track between 4-6. Me and dad, using age-old meteorological methods (look at sky) decided we'd stay at the truck and the freaking bottom blew out and rained for a solid 1.5hrs.

Finally get into the track around 8:45-9. Bought a badass Kes shirt. Race went well. Just...damn. Man I wish they could've ran it at the scheduled time. Freakin 2am is ridiculous, even for me lol

Also wish they'd do something about scoring down there. The tower isn't that big and in the middle of the infield and the screens in the infield are so small they're about useless.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Happy for the Wood Bros signing The People's Driver, Matt Dibenedetto. Excited to see him in a car that has potential and for them to have a driver with a damn personality.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

100% this. I've been all-in on team DiBenedetto ever since his top-5 at Sonoma, and got a bit more pissed than I should have after LFR announced they were parting ways after the season (and tried to claim that Gibbs had nothing to do with the decision). This is probably even better than the two seats I figured were most likely, either the #13 should Childress bring Ty in-house or the #38 after Ragan retires. This way he should continue to contend for wins in the coming years.

Also, good on Paul for recommending him, and the Menard's brand for continuing to offer sponsorship to the team. Definitely did not see that coming.

Bye week means NASCAR at Richmond! Everybody wins at NASCAR!

Except Logano.

I was as dry as can be! But the race was pretty damn good. They never wreck there anymore though. That used to be all it was.

Meant to post something, but made it down to the Roval Sunday. It's pretty damn cool. Certainly a different experience from the normal track, don't get that crazy speed, but fun as hell. We sat up under the suites going into 1 and had a good view of them coming thru start/finish, into one, then (a couple turns later) the zig-zag down to coming back into normal turn one thru 2. Good crowd. Good fun. Definitely an upgrade from the old BOA 500.

Heading to Dega next weekend. Pray for us. We're three rows off of Talladega Boulevard.

Then the 'Clip.

Could not be more excited. Football...clearly not going well. Nice to have some great distractions.

If you can't watch racing like that and be entertained then you are the worst sort of person. That was amazing.

Heartbroken. We left out around 4am this morning and got to watch the last 20-30laps back home. But yes, incredible racing. And Brenden Gaughn needs more rides...that dude's cool lol

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

They interviewed him last night, sounds like he only wants to run the plate tracks Superspeedways but said something about the team he's been driving for asking if he'd stick around for another decade lol

It stopped raining long enough yesterday in Martinsville to get the camper all nestled in its spot. IT'S MARTINSVILLE WEEK Y'ALL!!!

Yall settled in for the weekend yet or tomorrow?

I swung thru earlier and didn't see the f350 so didn't go in. But looks like a good number of campers all around the track. I'll try and stop by tomorrow evening and hang for a few!

Clay is one of the coolest dudes you will ever meet. Love that guy. Helton is, low-key, a giant. Very large man. Bet he can put down a full rack dinner over there and not blink.
