Hokies draw Michigan State in Maui Invitational

Mike Young will have his work cut out for him early in his first season. Will be interesting to watch tech take on a blue blood basketball school early in the season with a brand new coach and a lot of new players. Michigan State is getting some consideration as a Preseason #1 Team and returns the Big Ten player of the year, Cassius Winston.

Brutal matchup for a younger team with a new coach. the good news is a neutral site loss to Mich State won't hurt you if you are on the bubble, and early in the year is a better time to play Izzo.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Great early test for the team to prep for the ACC, keep them focused early, and learn what they need to do to compete at a higher level. An easier first round would have been nice, but there are not many easy teams in that tourney, and a loss to a bubble team in the first round would hurt more. Let's see where we are, work to get better, and hope we can pull off a stunner.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Cassius Winston has to be 40 years old at this point. Seems like he's been in school forever

It sure would be nice to beat them to prove to UVa that it can be done

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

I don't think anyone thought we would actually win the Maui Invitational but this will be a great early season test and if we lose we have an easier path to pick up 2 wins on the consolation side: 1st game would be against the loser of Dayton vs Georgia and then we would likely face the winner of Yale and Chaminade.

#QualityLoss

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Feel bad for MSU drawing a final 4 team in the Invitational.

Oh yeah the Maui Invitational, next year, that's right. I immediately deduct 10 points from the Mike Young Recruiter attributes as this clearly explains how he was able to tie down a really solid backstop of a class so fast. Also I add 10 points to the burn of KBJ leaving knowing that he gave up a trip to Maui and the chance to play in the invitational to transfer to UF. I mean florida beaches are nice, but compared to Maui, he might as well be on the muddy banks of Lake Okeechobee.

I am glad I will get to see some early season basketball on a channel other than ESPN8 online, but I am also not glad at the likely odds of moving immediately to the losers side of the bracket

I drew a spartan too!
