Good, we'll get enough of a whooping in Maui. May as well load every other date up with cupcakes. This season probably has an NIT ceiling (roof?) anyway.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

After Michigan State, we will play the loser of Dayton vs Georgia and then Yale or Chaminade in the 3rd game... sure MSU might be a whooping, but 2-1 is very doable even with a young squad.

Ooof, looks more like the 2018 NC State home schedule

With this schedule, 14-6 in the ACC will be needed to go dancing- give or take.

That's definitely not true. NC State went 9-9 with the worst OOC schedule in the country and almost made the tournament.

Regardless, this is a rebuild year. I don't think we're making the tournament no matter what our schedule looks like (though i'd love nothing more than to be proven wrong).

Key words in your post :Almost and NC State. Neither are "in" and Virginia Tech. I rest my case.

The fact that you're even talking about tournament chances is ridiculous. Let's wait and see if our ridiculously young team can handle the lower level D1 competition before we think about that.

But because you brought it up, if somehow we went like 7-3 in conference at both home and on the road, we would probably have even more Q1 wins than last year.

Is it basketball season yet?

For those wondering...

Home ACC schedule (in no order): Duke, UVA, UNC, Florida State, NC State, Clemson, Syracuse, Pitt, Miami, BC
Away ACC schedule: Clemson, Duke, UVA, Syracuse, Louisville, GT, Miami, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, BC

Also recall our opener is on November 5th at Clemson because of the new expanded ACC format. That home schedule for the ACC is just as good as it gets though, so once you get to January, it's gonna be good game after good game at home. We could certainly use all the "cupcakes" to prepare our very young team imo. The opener against Clemson could be tough and against Michigan State in Maui could be brutal.

Damn, I thought the football schedule was bad....

A big problem with our home football schedule is that our ACC home games blow too. At least in basketball we get multiple sure fire top 10 and top 25 teams at home in conference play.

Thank you Brent.

I'd be furious if this wasn't a new coach and no Blackshear. I don't like not playing Radford.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

That Maui Invitational is pretty close to the time i'll be moving to Oahu. Might have to make the quick flight over to Maui to check some games out.

β€œTHE CUP IS GOING NOWHERE MIKEY!!! THEY DID IT SOMEHOW!!”

This is horrendous but honestly, probably needed with the roster we are courting next year. Going to have growing pains.

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

I think it is a blessing in disguise. All of these young guys are going to be forced to play and gel as freshman for the most part against high level competition. It could make for some very talented teams in the next few years with the experience gained from it. I'm willing to watch a bunch of new guys have a rough year for that pay off a year or two down the road.

Sort of off-topic, but check out #9 on ESPN's list of Summer League plays....LINK: Ahmed Hill

I'm just here to sling some legs

Who the hell do they have calling these summer league games? Go to the 0:45 mark of this video for your daily dose of dumb.

The feed from Robinson was pretty nice before the block. Also NAW with the wrap around feed on the #1 play.

EGADS, that is ugly! Who do we get in Maui?

Michigan State (possible #1 team in the country). Then against the winner/loser of Georgia vs. Dayton. Then one more game against one of the other 4 teams (Kansas, Chaminade, BYU, UCLA) depending on results

Thank goodness for the Maui tournament, then. The rest of our non-con schedule is downright pitiful. I know we're expecting a dropoff from last year's success, but this schedule is just embarrassing. Not a single road game out of conference except the Maui tournament, and then here are how those teams finished last season in the BPI (out of 353 D1 teams):

#341 Coppin St
#331 USC Upstate
#161 Lehigh
#351 Delaware St
#256 Chattanooga
#140 Gardner Webb
#302 VMI
#352 UMES

Only 1 top 150 team? Embarrassing. Five of eight non-con opponents (not counting Maui, of course) were rated below 300 last year. I'll never get mad at Whit for scheduling UMES as long as Ace Custis is still coaching there, but the rest of this schedule, other than Lehigh and Gardner Webb is just vomit-inducing.

Tech is gonna to have a lot of freshmen getting alot of playing time this coming up year. They need to have an easier schedule to settle them in

Keep in mind that we get 2 extra ACC games and compare with last year. Replace @Penn State with our opener @Clemson. Upgrade from Charleston to Maui. Then perhaps replace last season's game vs. Washington with another early ACC game (if the ACC follows in the footsteps of the big 10 and has 2 early conference games with the expanded schedule).

And our team this upcoming season will frankly be nowhere as good as we were last year so our young team with multiple guys who are supposed to be seniors in high school could use some lower D1 competition.

Wait, what? When did we add 2 extra ACC games to the schedule? How have I not heard of this?

ACC basketball schedules used to be 18 games. Starting this season, ACC teams will play 20 conference games. That's why our season opener is an ACC game (November 5th at Clemson).

http://theacc.com/news/2019/2/14/acc-announces-future-mens-basketball-20...

Last year the big 10 added 2 extra games and had them played during the traditional non-conference schedule. I'm assuming the ACC will do the same thing. At least one anyway because all ACC teams (except for one since it's an odd number) will play a conference game as their season opener, with the matchups already announced.

This is the first time I'm seeing that link, so thanks for providing. It looks like VT gets a slightly easier schedule in Y2 of CMYBall when they avoid playing both Duke and UNC twice.

I had heard about the plan to add a couple pre-Christmas conference games, but somehow never heard that it was because they expanded the conference schedule. I just kind of assumed that those early conference games were being robbed from the later portion of the conference schedule. Thanks for that info.

That said, our non-con schedule is still shyte.

Just a reminder that Brent "not-gonna-#getbetter-at-ooc-scheduling" Williams put this schedule together before he left for A&M, not CMY or Whit

That's pretty gross but I guess it's what a young unproven team needs

I predict a 25 win season but this schedule keeps us out of the tourney.
