I will be there. I wanna see a smackdown for my first trip down to see 'em play at Dodd. Can't believe I've been here since 2006 and just now getting around to going to this game. I work with a bunch Yellow Jacket's, the smack talk is flowing today. I'm keeping myself in check, learned to never underestimate when the Chokies will appear and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Hangook Taqueria and flights at Scofflaw's before uber'ing to the stadium, then Ormsby's or Brickhouse after.

It's hood that it's a 3:30 game cause I love the skyline from the stadium at night, it's a stadium for that, however inthe sunlight the stadium sucks, its 4 different pieces put together that looks like no one thought 1 second on how to build a stadium.

I'd imagine it'd be hard to retain a sense of symmetry when you're having to add on pieces to an already constructed stadium with minimal space to work with.

The minimal space wasn't as much of a problem as was the law/rule that would require VT to get the east stands, for instance, up to current construction code in order to have attached the new south end zone structure to it. It would have been massively expensive, hence why the new structure doesn't physically tie in to either east nor west. If I remember Jim Weaver at TTL correctly, they wanted to make it like a horseshoe, but it was cost-prohibitive.

There were concepts out there drawn up to make Lane a horseshoe back around 1999, but as you said, codes couldn't make it work
What's interesting is... This is pretty much what Indiana did when they expanded their stadium about a decade ago... I guess Fire Code laws are different in Indiana than Virginia....

Found this new artist rendering with an overhead view of the new south end zone project at DKR-TMS. Now I'm starting to get what the "Longhorn patio" looks like. pic.twitter.com/NgOVPiXDMa— Brian Davis (@BDavisAAS) November 14, 2019

Can't remember where I heard this, but I thought it had to do with how steep the East stands are. That basically if you added on to those, you would have to make them less steep, which of course would be very expensive. I could be completely wrong, I don't really feel like researching, but that might be why Indiana could make it work and we couldn't?

VT, Indiana, and Wake Forest all used the same blueprints to build their stadiums. Indiana's was built first in 1960, Lane in 1964, and Wake in 1968.
Wake's has remained pretty much the same since opening, with only a press box expansion done not too long ago.
Indiana also raised one of their sides, but unlike Lane, put their press box on the high side.
I've been to all 3. I went to a game at Indiana about 10 years ago, and let me tell you, it was bizarre to be in that stadium. It really did feel like being in Lane, moreso than Wake's.

I love Memorial Stadium. I would love for us to relocate the practice field and do something similar to their endzone (it would look sick with Hokie Stone there) while connecting north EZ to the east and west stands. Imagine mimicking the Burruss Hall look where their glass panes are currently and making these offices, high-end donor lounges, and add a patio for croots while they get to see the north EZ effect from above...

I'll be honest, I realize we're prone to laying an egg now and again, but with how inspired this team has been lately, no one left on the schedule scares me. We have to beat ourselves to lose to any of them, and I like being in that kind of position.
Go Hokies.

Neither team could handle a mobile QB, the UVA defense looked bad, the GT offense was run away from defenders until some one comes open down field and then throw it 20 yards. It was sloppy on both sides. But GT looked a lot better than early on.

I assume this also covers the Orange or Citrus (1st pick for ACC), the Camping World (2nd pick) and the Sun, Pinstripe, Music City and Gator, which are all on the same tier as the Belk.....
Correct?

If Fu wins the coastal twice in 4 years, I'm in the tank for him. That's the deal. Period. I stand by that. For fun, yes IF we win out and end up in Charlotte via politics or whatever pecking order, fine.. I'll keep the pledge. "Making an ACC bowl"? nah, that was never hinted at as part of the deal.

No, and neither does criticizing the new DC or Corny, etc. I said I would not criticize Fu again, and I won't. He will either keep winning coastal's and be the next Beamer or he will move on to the next job. I can deal with unbridled support until something happens.

Yes we win the coastal if we beat UVA and Pitt and Duke loses once. If duke wins out I think we go to a 4 way tie (assuming pitt only loses to us) and then It appears we will win because we would have the best division record. If we lose to pitt and then BC beats Pitt I believe Pitt would win because it would put a 3 way tie between pitt, vt and UVA in which Pitt and us would eliminate UVA on division record then Pitt wins head to head.
Basically we have to beat UVA and Pitt and nothing else matters .... but still let's best GT for good measure.

If we lose to Pitt, there are still a few paths for us to win the Coastal. We'd need to win out, plus a Pitt loss to BC. That would leave the following scenarios:
If Duke wins out:
Duke, Pitt, UVA, and VT will be tied at 5-3. UVA and Pitt would be 2-1 within the group, with Duke and VT at 1-2. UVA would then win the division based on H2H against Pitt.
If Duke loses to Miami:
Miami, Pitt, UVA, and VT will be tied at 5-3. Miami and VT would be 2-1 within the group, with Pitt and UVA at 1-2. VT would then win the division based on H2H against Miami.
If Duke beats Miami and wins one of two against Syracuse and Wake:
Pitt, UVA, and VT will be tied at 5-3, 1-1 within the group, and 4-2 within the division. It would then progress to the next tiebreaker, which head-to-head against the top team(s) in the division, progressing through the standings. Their record against the 4-4 teams (Duke and Miami) would be 1-1. They all beat 3-5 UNC and 2-6 GT, so it would then progress to step #7, "The tied team with the higher ranking by the Team Rating Score metric provided by SportSource Analytics following the conclusion of regular season games." Therefore it is a 3-way TIE that cannot be resolved at this time.
If Duke beats Miami and loses against both Syracuse and Wake:
Pitt, UVA, and VT will be tied at 5-3, 1-1 within the group, and 4-2 within the division. It would then progress to the next tiebreaker, which head-to-head against the top team(s) in the division, progressing through the standings. Since VT beat 4-4 Miami, and UVA and Pitt both lost to 4-4 Miami, VT wins the division.

I said on another thread that we are improving faster than anyone, so I think we will continue to show progress and hopefully this will not be a close game.
However, GT is also a recovering triple option team, so they have been improving greatly this year as well. They almost beat LOLUVA last week and already took down Miami, so I am cautiously optimistic we will win - but GT is the only other team in the conference that is improving as much as we are, they just started out from much lower than we did. If they put it all together for this game, it could be a tight one.

I really hope this isn't a letdown game because we should beat them by double digits
Their passing game, at least hitting big plays, has improved significantly the last couple of weeks. VT better bring their A game.
^^^ this. I watched some of last week's highlights and was surprised at all the huge plays GT was hitting. https://youtu.be/j66-a2xtkow
Function of UVA secondary suckage? They've lost numerous players in the 2 deep including Bryce Hall
So... business as usual?
They did......................
Didn't we try to stop the run first the last few years?
Hard to stop the run when blockers dislocate your knee caps.
Or how the D-line was playing a yard off the line of scrimmage every play

When your stadium is the oldest in major college football it's going to look a little wonky.
Counter point: Mississippi State
Brace yourself.....Lane Stadium looks like 4 different pieces put together, too...
I see it as 6 pieces
NEZ
SEZ
West Stands
West Building
East Lower Stands
East Upper Stands
I saw a vase with flowers.....
I am (Ror)schached!
But was it blue flowers or gold flowers?
Everyone needs too stop dropping acid!
Strawberry Fields Forever.
Strawberry Fields you say?
Yeah, Lane is a lot of things and one of the top 10 Yards in College... but "pretty" and symmetrical it is not.
I'd imagine it'd be hard to retain a sense of symmetry when you're having to add on pieces to an already constructed stadium with minimal space to work with.

While we're on this....anyone seen the UTerus?
So.....
The stadium is giving birth to the team every week, I guess
Either that, or its some kind of messy discharge
I just hope the Project Managers still have time to pull out. Really not a well thought out design. Period.
lol I just saw this one on Reddit
Will the Evangelical players be allowed to go into the locker room or is there a back door we can't see?
There are endless puns for that. I really hope they do this.
September 10, 2022
The Crimson Tide will visit this stadium.
God that's going to be a bloody mess
I hear they're installing an 'auto-win' button right at the field entrance, but its highly unlikely anyone will be able to find it
Maybe they'll put some kind of rock or stone like Clemson has where you rub it before the game for good luck
Nah, that's just a shark brain.
Texas sports teams do love their uteruses...

Looks like the terror dome to me!
you can do better than that...
that looks better than this:
That 2nd tier comes down further makes zero sense to me.
This is all I see when I see that stadium
They throw bombs to a skinny, fast kid. Prepare yourself for that to be something they try several times.
Yep. Nail on head as usual, Chris.
Good thing we have a skinny, faster cornerback that'll be on him like glue.
I mean GT has shown the ability to put it all together passing-wise this year. They've had good games against UVa and Duke already.
We'll see which team shows up this week.
I think we should use Floyd in a similar role to Kyle Fuller a few years back, where he pretty much blitzed every down.
They can't beat us through the air we we don't let him even get a pass off.
Oh good this gets its own thread now.
They looked decent against UVa last week, so don't sleep on them.
Did they look decent or did UVA just look like trash? Many are asking.
We're not good enough to take anyone for granted, but if we play a semi-compete game we'll win by 2 scores at least
Uva looked like trash. It was sloppy
I'll be honest, I realize we're prone to laying an egg now and again, but with how inspired this team has been lately, no one left on the schedule scares me. We have to beat ourselves to lose to any of them, and I like being in that kind of position.
Go Hokies.
I suppose I was overstating, since I didn't actually see the game.
What I should have said was "They almost beat UVa last week."
Neither team could handle a mobile QB, the UVA defense looked bad, the GT offense was run away from defenders until some one comes open down field and then throw it 20 yards. It was sloppy on both sides. But GT looked a lot better than early on.
But clearly, GT didn't "suck at passing".
So VT needs to not sleep on them.
I don't think he was their starter all year. If youre going by total passing yards he's 3 spots above Hooker
"If Fu goes to 2 acc champ games in 4 years, I will never criticize him again." - dcwilson
As if we weren't rooting for our boys enough.
You know damn well what will happen if we make the ACC CG this year
Nope. I stand committed to what I said. If we are in Charlotte I'm in the tank. Call me out if not
sweet, now it applies to the Belk Bowl, too
😂
Fair enough... Probably need to win all three to get there too. so I'm cool with that.
I assume this also covers the Orange or Citrus (1st pick for ACC), the Camping World (2nd pick) and the Sun, Pinstripe, Music City and Gator, which are all on the same tier as the Belk.....
Correct?
Pot, meet kettle.
lol wtf
I'm clarifying up front, so we know parameters later
But don't let that keep you from licking his boots

No...
dcwilson be to internet arguments like key be to lock
cause he's cool like dat
Does criticizing everything count as criticizing Fuente?
No, and neither does criticizing the new DC or Corny, etc. I said I would not criticize Fu again, and I won't. He will either keep winning coastal's and be the next Beamer or he will move on to the next job. I can deal with unbridled support until something happens.
There's 40 QBs in the ACC with a higher completion percentage?
Not all QB's. those stats include a RB that goes 1-1 on a trick play too.
I appreciate the clarification, but that takes the stat from relevant to random
Everyone knows we will lose tomorrow then win vs. Pitt and UVA. It's the coastal way.
I can't handle another god damn baffling GT loss. I just... can't. Lol.
In that scenario we would win the coastal (I think) so I wouldn't be too mad. But I want to win them all so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yes we win the coastal if we beat UVA and Pitt and Duke loses once. Damn, with this nor'Easter bearing down on the OBX, I'm just hoping to have power to watch the game!
Drink!
Update: Yes, yes they are trash
But our defense is helping a lot
We made them suck! Hey uva we be coming!
