CMYBALL: Comparing ACC Rosters and Bigs Production

We are now inside of 300 hours until the start of the inaugural CMYBALL season. A lot has been said on these message boards over the years about our post players (or lack thereof). I looked through the rosters of the ACC and through last year's stats for each team to see what kind of experience and height we're gonna be up against this season.

First, the Hokies. Yes, having KBJ back would make us feel a lot better about our abilities this season. To suggest otherwise would be a bald-face lie. The Hokies rank, quite frankly, abysmally in most if not all categories. 15th in post minutes, 15th in returning scoring, 15th in post scoring, 15th in post rebounding, and 14th in returning minutes. Where the Hokies aren't actually lacking, is bodies. With two true bigs (6'9 or taller) and 5 almost bigs (6'7 -6'8), the Hokies are actually tied for 3rd in post players. One transfer big is sitting, the other is a Freshman, 1 transfer almost big is sitting, and the Hokies have two additional walk-on almost bigs, and 1 Freshman.

Virginia Tech will open play with a conference game against Clemson. The Tigers are 8th in returning post minutes, 14th in returning scoring, 10th in post scoring, 13th in returning minutes, and 9th in returning post rebounding. They have 3 bigs (1 transfer, 1 transfer WO) and 3 almost bigs (1 transfer).

One month later, the Hokies will welcome Duke. The Blue Devils are 9th in returning minutes, 7th in returning post minutes, 12th in returning scoring, 11th in returning post scoring, 8th in returning post rebounding. Duke has 5 bigs (1 walkon, 3 freshmen) and 2 almost bigs.

One month later, the Hokies open up the meat of their ACC schedule with the only 1 seed to ever lose to a 16 seed, UVA. The Hoos are 12th in returning minutes, 5th in returning post minutes, 11th in returning scoring, 5th in returning post scoring, and 5th in post rebounding. UVA is tied for 1st in total returning post players with 4 bigs (2 Fr) and 4 almost bigs (1 WO Fr).

Syracuse is 10th in returning minutes, 10th in returning post minutes, 9th in returning scoring, 12th in returning post scoring, and 12th in returning post rebounding. The Orange have 4 bigs (2 Fr) and 2 almost bigs (1 Fr).

NC State is 5th in returning minutes, but 11th in returning post minutes, 2nd in returning scoring, but 7th in returning post scoring, and 10th in returning post rebounding. State has 3 bigs (1 WO, 1 Fr) and 4 almost bigs (1 transfer, 2 Fr).

Wake Forest is 2nd in returning minutes, 6th in returning post minutes, 4th in returning scoring, 8th in returning post scoring, 6th in post rebounding. Wake has 3 bigs (2 Fr) and 3 almost bigs (1 Fr).

UNCheat is 15th in returning minutes, 13th in post minutes, 13th in returning scoring, 6th in returning post scoring, 7th in post rebounding. UNC has 5 bigs (1 WO, 1 Fr) and 2 almost bigs (1 transfer).

Miami is 8th in returning minutes, 12th in returning post minutes, 8th in returning scoring, 14th in returning post scoring, and 14th in post rebounding. Miami has 5 bigs (1 transfer, 1 WO, 1 Fr) and 1 almost big. (Transfer)

Boston College is 4th in returning minutes, 1st in post minutes, 6th in scoring, 4th in post scoring, and 3rd in post rebounding. The Eagles have 2 bigs and 5 almost bigs (1 WO, 2 Fr).

F$U is 11th in returning minutes, 14th in returning post minutes, 10th in scoring, 13th in post scoring, and 14th in post rebounding. The Noles have 3 bigs (1 Transfer, 1 Fr) and 4 almost bigs (1 WO, 1 Fr)

Pitt is 7th in returning minutes, 7th in returning post minutes, 7th in returning scoring, 8th in post scoring, and 9th in rebounds. Pitt has 3 bigs (1 WO) and 2 almost bigs (1 Fr).

Those Who Will Not See March return the 3rd most minutes, 2nd most post minutes, 5th most scoring, 3rd most post scoring, and 4th most post rebounds. The Bees have 4 bigs (1 transfer) and 3 almost bigs. (1 transfer) .

Louisville is 6th in returning minutes, 4th in post minutes, 3rd in returning scoring, 1st in returning post scoring, and 2nd in post rebounding. The Cardinals have 3 bigs (1 Fr) and 5 almost bigs (3 Fr, 1 Fr WO).
