So I usually don't follow recruiting until around this time of year. What have I missed?

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

The short version: Taking a small class, also not a very impressive one so far. Missed on a few top targets.

We have the worst recruiting class in the ACC at the moment and an avg recruit ranking of .8459 and 11 total commits.

There are some guys in this class that are considered to have strong upside. We have three RB commits at the moment, I doubt we finish with 3 RB commits with such a small class. Not sure everyone currently committed sticks, and we expect to sign like 12-15ish total.

What are your thoughts on who our Key targets are to round out what we have left for room in this class?

I'm pretty sure we are waiting to hear from Saunders. There a VIP threads about a few folks over on 247. That could be good. Could be bad.

Well that's interesting isn't it?

It's almost like restarting a thread puts us in an alternate universe. Quick, someone restart the "Virginia Tech 28 Boston College 35" thread!

That is so confusing. Not trying to restart any arguments, but the idea that fuente called him after the tweet blew up seems so crazy

Agreed. I struggle to see why that was aired out on Twitter, but then again I won't be the parent of a 5* recruit until 2032.

This is why we can't have nice things....

Kenny no

And this is why we can't have nice thing round here

β€œTHE CUP IS GOING NOWHERE MIKEY!!! THEY DID IT SOMEHOW!!”

I'm sure there isn't a soul from any other fanbase that's going to do the same thing once his boy commits.

I don't have anything else nice to say, so I'll end my post here.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Here's the thingβ€”fans across the country (certainly not just ours) feel entitled to in-state players. You see the most vitriol when a player spurns the major in-state school for an out of state power, often moreso than a player picking a rival.

Since UVA barely has football fans, top VA players that consider other schools are probably going to see the most vitriol from butthurt VT fans than anyone else. Same thing happened to Ford. The fans that were attacking him online were primarily VT fansβ€”not Ohio state fans (who saw him go to big10 rival penn state after he was leaning Ohio state towards the end). If this were a top Georgia kid going to Bama, or a top Alabama kid going to Clemson, you would see the same kind of behavior from those in-state fans but not VT fans. It's just how it is.

So yeah, I'm sure he'll get some stray shit here and there from other fan bases if he picks a different school. But if you don't think he'll get the most shit from butthurt VT fans, you (probably fortunately for you) haven't spent much time on recruiting twitter.

And at the end of the day, that hurts us because you get families of top players with a bad taste in their mouths about VT after the process, and at the moment we're not winning enough games to make up for it.

You're right on both counts. In state fans will tend to be worse to in state kids who leave. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of fans of other presumed finalists. Especially if there's a surprise at the announcement.

I also avoid my own fanbase's Twitter presence like the plague, because it is the plague.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Just say NO to being a twitter (or Facebook) moron.

One, WTF? Two, here goes the thread again.

I highly doubt Kenny is the reason they'll "never step foot on VT's campus again". Got to be more to it and dad's using Twitter as an excuse.

If it actually is the reason, he just lost all credibility as far as I'm concerned. He's got no business calling out the school and coaching staff to be responsible over a twitter troll.

Exactly! Dad needs to lay off twitter and let his son make his own decisions on his future honestly.

I agree. If your kid was seriously considering a school, you wouldn't even think twice about what some internet troll says. Dude just seems to want attention. WE'll see how good the kid really is when he gets to college.

Yes, because no other fan base has these asshats on Twitter.

1) How you going to let some guy on the internet e-hit you so hard that it impacts your kid's life? That's like level 10 trolling.
2) Why does Kenny not have better things to do than talk trash to a parent on the internet? Kenny is prob that same idiot that will be complaining about not enough stars in our class.
3) I wonder what Fuente said to him to make him cool with Fuente never talking to him after all the times he's been on campus.
4) It's amazing that a bunch of letters written by support staff as if they were the coach sent on the same day can make such an impact on a player. Seems like a relatively easy and cost effective thing to do.

Isn't this where we insert the response...

"DON'T TWEET @ RECRUITS!" or their fathers.

Well, I guess it was bound to happen eventually. Someone finally said something on the internet that offended someone else.

We had a good run.

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

Good riddance. Kid is talented but we don't need Daddy Drama.

This is the truth. I want all the talented players, but in this case the baggage may not make it worth it. I don't know the situation, but if this dad and his son were on campus so much why not go walk up to Fuente make it awkward, don't air it out on twitter (I'm assuming if they are on campus they are in contact with someone football related. I know they cant just walk into the coaches office). Now that this guy posted internet morons can get under his skin he is going to be attacked by fake accounts pretending to be "fans" of a school. Back to your point - in the eyes of this Dad and Coach any time he didn't agree he would be on twitter to make sure everyone knows he doesn't agree and it wasn't his sons fault.

There's 2 sides to this, though.

It's wonderful when Elite-level recruits have humble, down-to-Earth parents, but I'd imagine that is more the exception than the rule. Even if they start off that way, after having their mailboxes bombarded and 25 different universities trying to woo and cater them sometimes starting in Middle School, attitudes change--it would be hard not to.

In any case, 5-star Recruits are going to tend to have more "5-star Parents." Kyler Murray's dad was reportedly a major pain in the arse (particularly with A&M), but are you going to tell me you wouldn't have considered dealing with that to see him in O&M?

I don't think it's necessarily a wise decision by a Program to have a policy not to bother going after players with "needy" family members---you will be forgoing alot of talented players that way.

So True. I dealt with this enough in pee wee football.

this is a VERY underrated comment!

twitter @smithey_daniel

Every parent is probably more like this dad than "humble". Especially if they know the game. Its worse if they come from a place of economic hardship or up to lower middle class. Most people believe the school/coaches are more important in getting their child to the pros than the player himself. If you have that belief then why would you send your child to VT if you have bigger schools as options. From the father's irrational response to a Twitter troll, I would say VT was never high on the list and once the kid achieved "Bama/Clemson" status, VT was just listed for hometown appeal.....imo

completely agree.

twitter @smithey_daniel

How big is your team and how do you handle your playing time? I have found the key is rotating players early so we dont end up not getting all the players sufficient snaps. Learned the hard way though.

The concern of things staying the same is only exceeded by the fear of change

If he doesn't want his son to go to Va Tech because he thinks he is too big time for it all he has to do is say so. Stop blaming a fan, or getting mad at fans being competitive with out of state schools. He hasn't seen real criticism until his son costs his team a big play or a game (at the college level). Twitter is stupid, recruiting is annoying, and the transfer portal is god over twitter and recruiting now anyways. Life must be tough having an athletic son that every college wants and he gets to go for free. Come live with me and try working 7 days a week 10-12 hours a day at a shipyard, selling blood plasma, and every possession you have almost to pay for your wifes student loans...He cries because a few fans hurt his feelings on twitter and he can't let his son be a man and handle it, how embarrassing!

Whatever. It was one bad year.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

This dude needs to stop focusing on random moron fans and focus on the program and school. He also needs to step away from Twitter because he won't set foot on any campus if he focuses on what every fan has to say. I remember PSU fans after Rivers bailed on PSU and went to VT. Hell, I remember their coaches tweeting after 800% picked VT.

Seriously, if this guy is just finding out that social media and message boards contain a lot of criticism, anger, and conspiracy theories he is in for a rude awakening when his son messes up a play for the first time.

If it's any consolation, it looks like he screen-shotted a facebook post, not twitter

I regret that I can only give this one leg. I keep coming back to why was this aired out on Twitter in the first place? It's only a matter of time before "fans" spend more time creating fake profiles for other schools and stirring shit up if parents of high profile recruits- and one who is a coach at that- publicly react to nonsense from unknown persons unaffiliated with the school.

Also if I'm being honest what the guy said on Facebook was not nearly as offensive as what I would have expected based on the reaction.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

I was going to say the same thing. If I go make some fake fan profiles for penn state, alabama, Florida state, etc and spew hate at this dude, is he going to keep his son away from those schools too?

Nah, that ain't how it works. That's just an easy excuse to point to as to why they arent considering the hokies

This is just not news. People work with and deal with miscommunications and misunderstandings all the time.

I don't believe blasting everyone over something that seems like a contradiction on twitter allows everyone to say the sky is falling.

Any real recruiting news?

That being said. I've always thought the head coach talks to all the players and all the parents. Grimes seems like a key component to the class and he seems to really like Tech so why not develop some sort of relationship with the parents. Not saying that you have to be buddy buddy with them, but the kid is still underage developing a relationship with the caretakers is important.

Unless the recruit doesn't want their parents involved as much.

Im usually not one for doom and gloom, but the truth is we were never going to land Grimes. I get that he seemed high on us and I hope the coaching staff is going all out for him, but as a fan, it was always unrealistic to expect him to wind up in O&M. The silver lining here is we can get over it now instead of getting our hopes up for the next 16 months to finish in his top 5, but not at the top.

As much of a roller coaster just the past day and a half has been, who the hell knows?

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Yea I mean I cant be 100% sure... but our track record with 5* guys and top in state talent over the last decade isnt stellar. Ive definitely adopted a negative attitude toward recruiting the elite tier of players that Grimes and Ford are in. That said Im not nearly as down on our recruiting as many are... I think last year was probably our best class ever and I have a hunch this class gets a big boost by the time signing day rolls around.

You have a hunch you say? You got any of the sauces?

β€œTHE CUP IS GOING NOWHERE MIKEY!!! THEY DID IT SOMEHOW!!”

No sauces... all just based on standard performance... my guess is we land one or two 4* guys and several of our current commits get decent rating bumps to high 3 or low 4 levels, there is already some buzz about this. It wont ebd up as a top 25 class due to size but based on average recruit rating wont be far off from what we are use to.

What is it you think "hunch" means?

before this goes thread goes to sh*t as well.

I'm bring up some kids for ODU tomorrow. a lot of recruits on campus either way. so please show up. be loud and proud and leave the negativity in the car once you open that door the only thing we should hear is LETS GOOO!!! HOKIES!!!! (remember how it feels when you find out players are quitting on the team? well it feels the same for players when they find out that hokie nation is quitting on the team) everyone wants to complain about recruiting and yeah we have lost some battles lately, but do NOT understate the importance of US to the recruiting. the "this is home" the "enter sandman" the "atmosphere" are all recruiting pitches VT leans heavily on that were built and upheld by US. we are HOKIENATION. a lot of this doesn't work without us as well. obviously coaches have to do their part as well but so do we.

anyways without further ado

here a list of the kids I'm bringing up.
keonta Jenkins (committed)
chris Johnson 6"2" 3 star TE rebault HS (same as keonta)
walter rosas 6"6" 315 OT atlantic coast HS (class of 21)
tony forrest 6"4" 235 TE sandalwood HS sr
Dwayne wakefield 6"3"215 ATH 2020 university Christian HS (plays DE, WR, TE for us currently)

still working on trying to add a couple more last min. after speaking with coach wiles this morning.
tyree saunders and ridge Jacobs were both last min scratches as ridge is going to FSU (lame) and tyree staying home trying to rehab a hip flexor that has kept him off the field so far this season (his HS got a bye because of hurricane dorian this week)

kids ive reached out to per the staff but don't know if ill be able to get up this weekend but trying.
corey coley Safety from trinity Christian HS (Isaiah ford, chamari conner HS) they got a game this week so I don't think he will be able to make it.
marvin scott III class of 2020 RB spruce creek Daytona. Nebraska commit but shown a lot of VT interest. I don't know him so going to be hard plus Daytona is kinda the opposite direction than ill be driving but maybe he can meet up in jax before I head out.

trying to bring some good news to the recruiting thread.

Great Post.

First home game, bringing some recruits, awesome. Enjoy the weekend.

You hinted in your BBQ bash post, and we assumed based on context, that you would be bringing Walter Simmons III up for the ODU game, did that fall through? He seems like he would be a really awesome fit for our offense, and I really hope we are in position to have a good shot at him.

he wont be able to get up this weekend unfortunately oakleafs game did not get cancelled due to dorian instead got moved to this weekend so he will not be able to get on campus for ODU. I have spoken with him and he is still planning on getting up as soon as possible. (the noon VT kick off this week was going to make it tough anyways and luckily the storm cancelled a lot of games so now I can get on the road at a decent time and not 11pm tonight lol) hopefully hell be up for furman. I know that he and his family are anxious to get up to Blacksburg again not only to speak to the staff more and take in a home game but to watch Keshawn play as they are very close with him and his family.

Awesome man! Hope you and the recruits have a great trip to Blacksburg. We appreciate your insights and updates.

Thank you for sharing this content! It's super interesting seeing your insight on the recruiting process. Honestly, one of the big reasons I even poke my head into the recruiting threads.

Recruiting news...not speculation, interesting. Hope they (and us as fans) have a great time tomorrow!

Definitely appreciate this insight. I meant to tell you Jenkins really impressed me when I interviewed him. Had a wise beyond his years vibe to him.

Suggestion: Start a new thread if you do a writeup about the visit. Safe travels.

sure thing! and man the more time I spend with keonta the more impressed I am by him. he is in LOVE with VT and everything about it. we had a GREAT visit. but its the little things that really make you say wow about this kid. sunday morning we were hanging out in the locker room with ashby and Belmar and some of the guys and keonta was so excited like you could just see it while we walked around the same locker room hes been In probably 20x times now he goes "man I cant believe I'm about to be bleeding orange and..... he paused....( he didn't even know the other color lol) man" the kid is just so excited. he consistently talks about how you cant be bigger than the program when arguing with his peers about winning football games, hes so humble, hes going to be a leader from day 1. while some of the other kids are asking for gloves and gear and stuff hes talking to ashby about the lunch pail and asking all kinds of questions just soaking it all in. I cant say enough of this kid man.

Any updates after the weekend?

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

tyree saunders! :)

visit went great! coaches are spread pretty thin on game days they spent about an hour meet and greeting and talking to the kids from 10-11ish but making the rounds. it was a great day for all the kids involved though. not a lot of note worthy stuff just because time was so limited and with so many recruits on campus not a lot of one on one time with coaches.

side note: noon games suck! leaves everything so scrambled.

all the kids loved it so much they are all asking to come back up with me for furman (which I was going to bring the GF and my son and kinda just relax and enjoy the game but looking like duty may call lol) the kids post on Instagram and snapchat and all that and the other kids back in jax that have VT offers really feel like they are missing out. if you see above where I mentioned pat Bryant and ridge Jacobs opting for FSU instead of coming up with us. they both were hitting me up Saturday night asking when I was coming back up because they had wished they came with me instead of going to FSU.

all the kids were amazed with the crowd too! way to represent hokie nation! I know it wasn't a sell out but for a noon kickoff, coming off our first losing season, and a rough week last week at BC, and all the frustrations with the way things have been lately, we came out anyways, we were loud, and sandman didn't disappoint. I cant wait to show them a night game in lane. duke on a Friday is horrible. all these kids have games. that's a L on the scheduling guy lol.

New thread. Who dis?

I just wanted to make a post here because I saw people on the other recruiting thread saying that in order to go after Shane Beamer he should have OC or DC experience first. First and foremost 1 of the best coaches in all of college football Dabo was a WR coach before head coach, I don't think him having OC or DC experience is all that crucial. If he can build great relationships with recruits and puts a good to great staff around him he would do very good for us and I'd be willing to bank on it, don't know if VT would seriously consider him if they fired Fuente, but if they don't they're a fool. Shane can coach at the highest level because he understands how important recruiting is to the success. We can get the best X and Os guy in the country, if he can't recruit we're not gonna win but so much. I'd rather have a great recruiter first and get great talent in the building, and then worry about the Xs and Os.

Go for it

Totally agree. The irrational hate for Shane is crazy. And our next HC, whenever that may be (sooner or later) is likely going to be someone we can afford like Shane but with high upside in a program CEO model and connections to the program. I think it's absurd to say he has to be an OC or DC first (see Dabo). And that's all I have to say about that.

I'd say the sudden love for Shane is irrational. People that are skeptical of him as HC would point to:
1) Wakey Leaks embarrassment
2) Failed to recruit top players (and almost any players to be honest) from his designated recruiting area, Richmond
3) RB play declined under his watch. He was mostly known for a questionable RB rotation and a boxing glove on a stick.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

The Wake Forest thing wasn't even a huge deal. I'd be shocked if any CFB fan outside of Vt fans even recall it.

The "failed to recruit top players" is downright false. Shane was easily our best recruiter and signed a lot of highly rated recruits while he was here. Admittately many didn't pan out, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he was landing higher rated guys than we are now, all while everyone knew Franks days were numbered - not an easy situation to recruit.

Also, I don't get the infatuation with the boxing glove on a stick thing. That's a pretty standard drill at most schools. Not only has our running game been booty post-Shane, but McClease and many of our RBs since could likely use a little more of that drill.

That ole Josh Jackson guy is looking pretty good right now, currently torching ranked Syracuse today

Go for it

Hate to be this guy but there's a thread for this rather than muddying up another recruiting thread.

Agreed. Applies to the Shane Beamer discussion as well.

A lot of positivity on Twitter from recruits visiting yesterday. If anyone can embed, please do. Thankful for a commitment during the game, too, for a kid who couldn't make it. That's awesome.

We've already got a ton of stud receivers that are really, really young. Why would he want to go VT if he wants to play anytime soon? Not saying I don't want him, but there are far greater needs.

I mean, he could switch to DB...

"These people are losing their minds!"

That's assuming he wants to play DB. He might be dead set on being a WR for all you know

Dazz probably wouldn't start on VT's team right now. He is really athletic but has questionable hands. I have seen him drop a lot of passes in big situations for UNC - I think one of those came against us last year (might be wrong).

Multiple in the game against us last year.

I stand corrected.

To be fair, he's look a lot better this year and caught the game winner against Miami. Stinks he's not at VT, that speed would be used on the field somewhere

True but for the crowd who don't like offering under ranked guys Dazz would have been just another example of offering a low tier guy same with Dortch from Wake.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

It's not 'offering underranked guys.' It's the overall approach to assessment of talent and building a strategy.

Recruiting has been confusing because we're willing to take flyers on guys like Pimpleton, yet we pass on Newsome or Dortch, when both of the latter's film and competition was considerably better, they came from areas we recruit infinitely more often, and one had a direct family connection to the school.

Your right Beamer and his staff should have done a better job recruiting those guys and getting them on board. Jesus it's like you don't even want to go into the details about those two players and who didn't do the work to recruit them.

Yeah, also saw him look pretty sure handed at PR this past week. Maybe his hands are getting better. I still think he will muff one against us.

Came across an article about Dazz today. He was nearsighted and didn't know it. After a coach started asking him about his vision he went to a doctor and got a prescription for contacts. He can actually see the ball near and far now so he is catching the ball much better this year. Good for him, but wish he was a Hokie.

Also, the article reminded me that he was recruited as a DB and he would definitely be a 2nd year starting CB for VT IMHO. Maybe Farley would have stayed on offense as a WR, or maybe he still would have have been moved to defense. Revisionist history has the defense better with Dazz last year.

hokies cruttin on the bye week.

jham and jafar williams in jax this weekend flying in Thursday to make some rounds.

JHam going to keontas game Friday night against sandalwood. (sandalwood currently has 3 kids VT has offered on defense and 1 they are interested in at TE and starts 4star FSU commit jeff sims) keonta will be making his first start on the offensive side of the ball this week and playing both ways. going up against 4 star DB and ALABAMA commit Jahquez Robinson. should be a fun game to watch.

jafar will be attending my game! whoop whoop! lol University Christian hosting first coast high school and recent VT commit tyree saunders.

spoke to both coaches last night. going to grab some dinner with them Thursday night after practice and watch some football (just in time to watch the jags play. great /s) and talk shop. ill report back on any news later this week.

couple updates so far!

hokies offered jahiem singletary aka slim. another guy from my 7on7 program. 6'1' DB from lee highschool jax FL. holds a pretty nice offer list so far for a youngin. includes UF, AUBURN, OREGON, FSU, UM, UGA, UT, on and on.

they'll be out recruiting today some more. if you look in my above comment about keonta going up against sandalwood HS tonight youll see I mention 2 sandalwood players one a bama commit and the other a FSU commit. welp Robinson is 4 star DB class of 20 (I know from talking to his dad he isn't solid on bama but his offer list is HUGE) and Hamilton will be working him today as if that wasn't a surprise enough to me (I wasn't aware we were still recruiting him) Jham also said he will be working on sims as well. I think hes solid solid to FSU but Hamilton going to try and work some magic I guess. both those guys have VT offers but I honestly thought we had moved on from both of those kids.

both coaches had a busy day yesterday and will be running around all over jax again today. ill try and update everyone with any new info I get.

This is just my take, but the more games I see small william coach, the less I'd expect "solid" FSU recruits to sign with him. I mean, how many times can you take the field with the embarrassment of riches he has talent wise and still come away with an L or a shaky W?

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

I agree with you completely but that's an outsiders look. the kids been with FSU for a long time and has a great relationship with briles. heck if you saw the "fear isn't coming its already here" thread about our record over the past 10 seasons and heard some of the things our fans think of our own head coach why would anyone want to be a solid commit at VT in theory. we all see the dumpster fire that is FSU. but FSU has A solid history to fall back on and sell getting back to that. the longer they are away just like us the harder that sell is but jimbo fisher had them in a national championship in 2013 and were in the playoffs in 2014 and had a Heisman trophy QB. Kids from this area are old enough to remember that and it doesn't seem so far off nor does it seem impossible to get back too.

Jahquez is heavily underrated IMO. I've seen fans of several SEC schools say they had him as their top CB target in Florida over Fred Davis. I would love to make inroads at Sandalwood.

Interesting happenings down here in NC this week. There had been rumors - perpetrated mainly by a certain UNC message board that there was grade fixing happening at Clayton High School and that football players were the benefit of this.

What's interesting about this is that the main two schools to benefit from Clayton recruits recently were State and VT.

Unfortunately for UNC, the investigation completely cleared the football team, and none of their players were involved.

Heard Rumors that D. Hazelton is in the dog house with Fuente about being cleared and then not practicing and could be on the verge of entering the transfer portal - anyone hear if this has legs or not? Also heard about QP might be wanting to leave but I believe that to be far less from the truth.

I expect one of Hendon/QP to leave in the offseason. My money would be on Hooker because as a grad transfer he would have guaranteed immediate eligibility, and that would make him a more enticing transfer prospect for the overwhelming majority of schools. Also, he's entered the portal before. Now, if he wins the starting job in the spring, then I would expect him to stay and then the question will be if QP waits his turn or looks elsewhere.

QB attrition will likely continue to be the norm. The importance of recruiting the position consistently will only grow in magnitude.

The Hazelton situation is a bit more confounding to me. It's hard to know exactly what is going on, but I think there are two possibilities:

1) It's exactly as they are saying, they misjudged the recovery of his hamstring and they want to be sure he can go 100% before they risk a setback.

2) Complete and utter conjecture alert here, Hazelton may be holding himself out to some degree to save himself for the bigger games and reduce his injury risk in the meantime. This would probably cause some tension between he and the coaching staff if they were at all suspicious that this might be the case.

If Burmeister is the starter next year we could lose them both no?

Proud author of one plaid comment.

Has he graduated? He used his RS year when he transferred from Ball St to VT.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

If QP leaves, that may be the final nail in the coffin for Fuente.

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

Only if whoever is playing QB under performs and the team does not do well next year.

I hope QP plays and fully lives up to our hoped potential. But if Burmeister, Kadum, or Hooker play really well next year (and the team is winning), Fuente will not be fired just because QP leaves.

Not fired because he leaves, fired because I expect that the future QB is QP and I'm not sure if there's another future starter on the roster right now.

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

Why would Fuente get fired for QP leaving? I want QP to be a great QB as well but if the kid is not ready then dont play him, no reason at all for a firing over that.

Your wish may be granted next Friday night. Injuries to RW/HH may force QP into action.

Probably Knox Kadum

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

That's a big "may", buddy.

He has no incentive to leave in the offseason before camp though. Willis is gone no matter what and then it becomes an open competition between Hooker/Patterson/Burmeister.

Then I see the loser of Hooker/Patterson leaving unless Burmeister somehow wins the job. If that happens, that would be a major indictment of Fuente and Cornelsen being unable to develop talent at the QB position - and that would be a "final nail in the coffin" in my opinion.

Someone that use to work with the team told my brother that Burmeister was the best qb on the team

Tales told of battles won

Which is still a bit troubling since he didn't show much (from a passing standpoint) while at Oregon.

Is it basketball season yet?

But, in all seriousness, I heard this, too.

Colleague of mine ran into a (supposedly close) friend of Fuente's downtown after we knocked off Duke in basketball last year. He said Fuente was really excited about Burmeister. This was before he ever got to campus of course, and take that #sauce for what you will.

If QP stays, is there anything that indicates he will ever see any meaningful time on the field?

Well he's still only been on campus for about 13 months and anyone with any realistic expectations knew he'd take a while to develop. He absolutely has the most physical ability on the team

Isnt he the 3rd string QB right now after a red shirt year? Its not like we have a starter that couldn't be unseated if there was someone making plays behind him. Yet QP is two spots back. There hasn't been much buzz, other than recruiting buzz as a high schooler. We aren't Alabama or Oklahoma, if we have a star in the making at QB, they aren't third string at this point. That's a very realistic expectation to meet. Name a third string QB after their redshirt year at VT that has ever made an impact. If he was third behind Vick and Randall, Id be excited, not behind Willis and Hooker.

BTW, I am way more worried about this coaching staffs' ability to develop and get these players ready than I worry about their talent and ability. This staff has been here long enough to get something out of these players and the only success we have had was one year with a transfer.

Not asking for you to identify your source, but any reason to give credibility to your source or just someone with no inside connection conjecturing out loud?

I read something like this on TOS

Also heard about QP might be wanting to leave but I believe that to be far less from the truth.

Overheard last year by nephew walking behind QP as he spoke to a friend at Goodwin

'Its easy to grin, when your ship comes in, and you've got the stock market beat,
but the man worthwhile, is the man who can smile, when his shorts are too tight in the seat'

Could be something, also could not be. I've worked with many people who talked about leaving a company who went on to work there for years and years. People like to complain.

Hazelton is not transferring (I bet we see him next friday) and QP would not transfer before going through the QB competition. Both are happy in bburg but also want to do what's best for their career. Don't believe everything you read on other sites

Are you hearing what is currently on other sites about shoulder injuries to Willis and Hooker?

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

Idk what other sites are saying, but I know that HH has been dealing with a shoulder for a while now. He reaggrivated it against ODU. Willis has a couple different things going on but I'd be surprised if he missed any time.

HH shoulder popped out of place against ODU on his run. they popped it back in for him right away on the sideline but obviously its still sore. willis went back in after that play and kneeled it out for the final drive. I wanna say he was concussed after his fumble but I have no facts to back that up. just what appeared to be. but HH. facts.

hazy was upset at not playing in BC I think he felt he was good to go the staff did not. as he was dressed. running into every offensive huddle when they took the feel and then walking back to the bench with his head down. I asked him in the 2nd half what was up (we were on row 1 for BC 50 yrd line) and he just shrugged and gave like an idk wth is going on look. he didn't dress for ODU. but the reason for that was 100% the hammy. I talked to him that weekend. he didn't seem like a guy that wants out of BBurg.

I was at Highland Springs this morning and Coach Johnson (VT Alum) said that he was meeting with James Franklin today. I know 904Hokie said JHam and Jafar are in FL but really hope we have at least Zohn if not both him and Fuente in Richmond this week. Between Malcolm Greene, Kevin Gilliam, Damon Harmon, we should be getting a guy each class from there considering Johnson and DHopkins both coach there.

Greene wants to go wherever will accept his 60 credit hours.

Advance College Academy. Essentially it's dual enrollment, earning both high school and JSRCC credits. He'll be graduating High School with his Associates and want's it to fully transfer, hence why Wake Forest was dropped like a bad habit, because they'd only accept about a dozen credits.

Kind of interesting though, that if he were to enroll in the summer, take a full load while potentially redshirting, he'd graduate before playing his first full season. Dude could get his Masters before his eligibility is up.

VT accepted 54 of my dual enrollment credits from high school, but most of them were useless in engineering. I was able to skip English, calculus 1 & 2, vector geometry, and a few CLE's.

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

They accepted none of mine in '00.

The concern of things staying the same is only exceeded by the fear of change

They accepted mine in 2012 and they were from two different community colleges that were partnered with my high school.

We as fans forget these kid's have lives outside of football. Many of them want to be out of state cause what they have right now isn't pretty. The area around HS is on the news every night. Every night. Some of these kids will eat their lunch at school as their only meal of the day. IIRC, Macho Harris was helping his mom raise his siblings. Football means a shot out of this, and for many, a trip out of state is just that. Even if the NFL doesn't come.

Harris chose us cause of Beamer. And we were winning at that time. I fully believe winning more games will get their attention. And don't think we aren't talking to Johnson and the kids there. Right now, I don't think the interest is mutual.

That's okay too, we can move on as well. There's other places in the country just like HS with the same hungry kids, the same story, and the same problems; we just have to find them. For every Virginia kid that is looking for a ticket out, there's multiple kids (from 49 other states) that are trying to fight their way in. Sure it sucks that we can no longer keep the in-state kids in-state, but it's next man (recruit) up.

A friend of mine's nephew is Jamir Boyd from North Stafford and he is putting up crazy crazy numbers this year. I'm sure most of you remember the running back we lost to Penn State from there last year. I am wondering if the VT staff is looking at him at all since I have seen/heard nothing. He seems to be a Tayvion Robinson kind of player (QB but small). This kid has skills and we should be looking at him in this game between Highland Springs and North Stafford! Anyone seen him play?

Jeremiah 29:11 and Go Hokies!

North Stafford....Boyd is killing it so far this season. He is in a 4wr O and he spreads the ball around to all of his options. I think their O is better this year without Ford.....
I haven't seen him play but I'm living in Spotsy now and get highlights/news paper articles weekly.....

Thanks NewportHokie, I didn't recognize the West vs North until you pointed it out......fixed it. Yeah, my buddy who is his uncle says he has been going to camps and has a HUDL film but the only people recruiting him heavily are UVA and William and Mary (he has a 3.9 GPA). Any way we can get a request to our recruiters to go get on this kid?

Jeremiah 29:11 and Go Hokies!

well we haven't offered Tevin White out of NS yet, so I'm not optimistic about Jamir :( really underwhelmed by VT coaching presence in the I-95 corridor between DC and Richmond

Maybe the staff was burned by Ford...lol...I'm working on transferring my son to NS....hopefully the staff will see my son while recruiting White.....
