Illusions MIchael!

The only illusion was the thought of a season this fall.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

The Final FINAL decison

"We're playing...maybe"

I didn't realize that the last decision was not final?

Twitter me

This one is definitely final until the next decision.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

They have to be over 800% sure of their decision or I won't believe it.

ACC pls

Is this like double secret probation?

There really is no reason to meet just to stay the course. Can probably only mean bad news.

"If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?"

Supposedly this is a previously scheduled meeting.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

My sources say don't listen to me considering first tweet I saw literally says ACC is "staying the course"

"If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?"

My dad used to have a saying when I was bugging him about being allowed to do something...

If you have to have an answer now, then the answer is "No."

I sure hope none of these guys ever knew my dad.

On second thought, that tweet gives me the feeling that a follow up denial tweet from the FSU dude is on the horizon.

Its the Final Final Decision....

unless they agree to play, in which case we'll see a Final Final Final Decision in the near future when things still continue to not get better

King Alum of the House Hokie, the First of His Name, Khal of the Turkey Legs, The rightful Heir to the Big Board, the Unbanned, Breaker of Trolls and Father of Gritty

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

Things are getting better though. National metrics have been trending downward for the last two weeks. ER outpatient visits are down, hospitalizations are down, CFR down, % pos down, etc.

When is it safe? If there is a number to indicate danger, then there has to be a number that indicates we're Gucci.

(Sorry... I'll see myself out, and head toward the coronavirus thread...)

Leonard. Duh.

I think this means 1 of 2 things...

1) A meeting just to formalize the decision to cancel the season or postpone to Spring

2) Meeting to address the new myocarditis concerns. Can we properly monitor and test all athletes for this condition? How do we communicate the risk of this condition to the players? What is the protocol to handle this, can it be executed, and is the conference, the schools, and the players willing to take this course of action?

If they're serious about playing, then they will have to discuss #2 and address it clearly. I don't think they'll just be able to ignore it.

It is a meeting to discuss the new weekly report from the conference's medical experts. Nothing more, nothing less.

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but if the ACC can make it through a season without any terrible happening to players (big if, and very important, I know) this could be huge for a league that has been playing second-fiddle to the SEC, B10, and B12 for a few consecutive years.

There will be less competition from other leagues, so games that might be on ESPN 2 at noon could be the ABC 3:30 game. Less competition and more visibility means more viewers, which means more TV revenue.

IF players can avoid major health concerns, this could could be a fantastic move for the league.

Twitter me

It's only a matter of when - not if - players will do something silly like this and compromise the season:

On one hand, I think the scenario is funny like it could be a scene in a sitcom. But on the other hand, the risk of spreading an infection to the team isn't funny at all.

First of all, that's a really expensive date night. You just cost yourself a contract, damn. Second of all, he tried to disguise the female as a player?! Either he's dumb, or she's really unattractive.

Twitter me

I think your first point answered the second one.

Interesting, the Hitman disguise approach doesn't work so well in real life?

But the mustache was real...

We put the K in Kwality

The woman was wearing #Seahawks gear in an attempt to disguise her as a player, I'm told. It did not work.

I cannot believe that didn't work

You're the only ones that I can talk to about this, you guys.

Some sources say this is a screenshot of the team hotel security footage

Damned amateurs. This guy obviously never had to sneak a girl on post after the gates closed and then past CQ.

If you play it, they will win.

Nice. Rule #1 when you get caught somewhere you're not supposed to be, act like you are and you're busy AF and can't believe they're bothering you.

If you play it, they will win.

Honestly, I'd make her pretend to be a manager of the hotel and I'm taking her to my room because there's some issue. This does require everyone to have a certain level of wit/improvisation.

Indeed. That's about the best plan for that situation.

My experiences didn't take wit so much as balls and bargaining. Hopping the fence of a military installation is generally "frowned upon." As far as whoever was on CQ was concerned, find out what they need, and provide it. That was usually was covering for them the next time they had CQ.

BTW, should've probably elaborated...CQ means charge of quarters. It's essentially a babysitter for the barracks to make sure people aren't doing things like having wild toga parties and setting up slip-n-slides in the hallway. Which are of course hypotheticals and never actually happened. 😉

If you play it, they will win.

Ah yes. I believe those stories begin with, "No shit, there I wasn't..."

Hell, we might even get a chance to host ESPN Gameday again! It'll sure be easier to break into the Top 25, if not the Top 10!

Come on now it's 2020, we have to make predictions based on the worst outcome: ACC will play a full season and VT will have plenty of prime time games only to go on and embarrass themselves on a national stage

/s

I'd like to at least test that out.

The worst outcome is no football at all.

If it is truly a final decision, then there will be no season.

YEAH HERE WE GO
JUST WATCH HOW WILD IT GETS

Had to make the hats.

Said meeting was at 4:30. I'm guessing if you are discussing canceling a season it's not, "Hey, so everyone good. Season canceled? Alright. Say hey to the kids."

wellwe'rewaiting.gif

So the "final final decision" is staying the course. Cool.

This is exactly like a term paper. Can't wait for decision "final final rev A final 2"

ESPN reports Mark Emmert said there will be no NCAA Fall Championships.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

NCAA being a toothless tiger as usual. The P5 conferences created and control the CFP, which issued a statement today that they will be prepared to host a playoff for this fall's season.

For Tech that impacts Soccer, cross country and Volleyball.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Cross country isn't safe enough to have a championship...but football is...

We put the K in Kwality

Yes, but, the NCAA itself has no jurisdiction over the CFP. It is a separate entity entirely.

So that means that the FCS Playoff will no longer be happening, correct?

Yes, but I think that was already determined earlier in the week or last week when the number of available FCS teams went under 50%. Basically, whenever JMU threw in the towel.

Anybody else heard this?

To be clear, I don't follow either of these cats, just saw someone else retweeted it, so I have no idea if there is an ounce of validity to this. Just curious if anyone else is hearing anything

Watching Ohio State and Penn State fight over the privilege of playing ACC football.

As a nobody myself I know that game recognizes game.

I hadn't heard that one. Though it seems a bit too late to try and make that move now...

That was my thought, the "season" is less than a month away...but with this year, who the f knows

Lol wut?

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

This is never going to happen. Why do people have such a hard time understanding what a conference's grant of rights means? The Big10 is not going to let a school run off and make money with another conference. Warren already publicly told Nebraska that this was not a possibility if they wanted to remain in the Big10.

They ain't gonna kick out Ohio State though

No, but the lawyers would easily tie this up for months in the courts. And no school is going to play and risk not making any money off of the games.

It's not about the money! It's about the kids and their desire to play!

Anybody ever see a listing of how the Big10 presidents voted? Would have to assume that the OSU president voted no to the cancellation to consider this. I have only read that the Big 10 conference commissioner stated that it was an overwhelming vote to cancel the season by the presidents.

As far as I know, the votes of the B10 presidents have not been disclosed, and that seems peculiar, given that 13 of the 14 schools are public institutions.

The B10 commissioner, whether or not football is safe, has really botched the handling of this fiasco.

Leonard. Duh.

There's also some rumbling from #sauces that OSU, Penn St, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, and Nebraska are exploring the possibility of playing a 10 game home and home between each other this fall.

Personally, I would take that with the whole damn shaker of salt. Some reliable sources have confirmed that Michigan's prez is a hard "No" on fall football, no matter what Harbaugh is out there spinning.

Leonard. Duh.

Are these several sources a group of parents yelling at an empty building?

I'd normally lean towards the guy at one end of the bar, and also the guy sitting on the other end... but bars aren't open, so you may be right.

Leonard. Duh.

That shit is hilarious

In regards to OSU, it would be complete 180 by their AD. He has shot down the mini Big 10 season as well as playing in another conference.

https://247sports.com/Article/ohio-state-gene-smith-responds-to-rumor-of...

Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith shot down rumors on Wednesday that the university was still hoping for a 10-game football season in 2020 and are trying to convince five other Big Ten programs to join

According to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith has shut down this plan for the Buckeyes. In a phone call with Rittenberg, Smith said that playing football in the fall was no longer an option.

"There's not a fall option," Smith said, according to Rittenberg. "We had hoped and just realized that not too long ago. We're all about the spring and how do we set that up."

Always possible with pressure from above or big money donors that he changes course.

The tweet is deleted. I'm pretty sure that means it's a done deal, right?

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

Ohio State needs to get some rocks in their pants and finally join the SEC Pauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuul!

Until there is a valid treatment, nobody will be playing college football, in my opinion .

Edit: I agree with your edit.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Unpopular opinion, but....

Gimme all the downvotes then.

I mean c'mon. It hurts my heart that Blacksburg is going to suffer IMMENSELY this CFB season (or lack thereof). Like DC, I'm just not seeing a path towards a season (or at least a full one) this season. COVID is terrifying because it doesn't descriminate on who gets it REALLY bad, and who just gets it mildly. It doesn't predictably select who will have short term repercussions and who will have issues for the rest of their lives. Or the fact that I live with someone who's mom has a 33% chance of outright dying if she gets it with her type of cancer.

I struggle seeing the justification. We all talk about how 18-22 year olds make stupid decisions, and yet, we are giving them the choice to risk their lives by "opting-out" or "playing with risk".

I'd love to see the O&M return to Lane and have a great season. It would bring me a lot of joy in this crappy time. I just don't agree with the current course of VT and the ACC.

Great edit! Any chance you can write your original posts like you do your edits? It would avoid so much negativity and noise.

Looks like the NCAA just approved the rule giving fall athletes an extra year.

Don't want to make new thread because I can't embed the McMurphy tweet.

For those who haven't read the rule/tweet, does that mean if schools do play in the fall, those players are essentially playing exhibition games that don't count, or does that mean Jim Harbaugh has 110 scholarship players next year to Nick Saban's 85?

Is the NCAA going to allow an year of fifth/sixth year players to essentially not count towards the scholarship limit?

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

The way I understand it, using your example, if Michigan wants to continue the scholarships for 25 seniors for an extra year, they will be able to do that. The limiting factor is that a school is not going to want to extend an extra season and an extra scholarship for every senior that it applies to. They will do it for contributors of course. And if a non-contributing player wants to pay for his own tuition for an extra year (maybe get a masters or whatever), I'm sure teams would be happy to extend them on their roster an additional year because coaches like veterans and older players as long as they're not taking up too much of the resources that can be going to the contributors and the future contributors. Just my take.

ACC non con games are filling up, this is it boys, it's getting serious, let's talk some football!!!
