Hokies Land Vanderbilt Transfer Tae Daley

He started 9 games in 2019 and opted out of the 2020 season.

Daley, a senior, started 17 games over the past two seasons. In 2019, he ranked third on the squad with 57 tackles and had a team-high three interceptions. Daley was projected to be a key cog in the secondary this season.

Was looking into Daley a while ago when it sounded like he was a possibility and I think he provides a good option a safety for the remainder of his eligibility.

Vandy had him listed at 6'0", 198 lbs. Mid three tier guy with offers from South Carolina and Wisconsin, scouted by some bigger schools. Started 17 games, and probably has a connection with Darryl Tapp who spent a year as a quality control analyst at Vanderbilt. Getting transfers in now, as opposed to August, should really help bring together what will likely be a different looking defensive unit next year.

Good work. Give CJF credit for getting an early jump on filling some key holes for next year by mining some quality talent from the Portal.

He should be able to play in the 2-deep immediately.

Waller and Strong are the only guys who should play as much or more than Daley.

I see Devin Taylor being much improved with time in the system. He really got put in a tough spot this year.

It'll be interesting to see where he gets slotted with Daley coming in though.

He is looking like he is gone.

He is? Do tell.

at the time HF posted this, it had been announced the Taylor got a senior bowl invite, but i haven't seen any word yet that he was accepting the invite

I guess theoretically he could play in the senior bowl and then come back for another senior year.

I could be wrong, but aren't all the senior bowls cancelled this year? It's just more honorary than anything else this time around.

One, I don't think the game is canceled. Two, Taylor isn't listed as an accepted invitee and the roster looks pretty full. But I don't know if there is a deadline to accept.

Which senior bowl are you talking about? Taylor got selected for the East-West Shrine bowl. That bowl is canceled and he did make the 2021 roster.

THE Senior Bowl. (I guess not being able to read minds is worth a downvote (rolls eyes...)

If the game is canceled, I'm not sure meeting with scouts, etc is enough by itself to exhaust his eligibility as long as he pays most of (maybe all?) his expenses in doing so.

If you accept and participate in a senior bowl you are accepting benefits you can't do it and come back and play. So while this year there won't be "games" they will have virtual meetings with scouts and NFL personal, team personal etc.

FAM ITS LIT DBU TIME

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Is he a corner or free safety? If Keontae Jenkins can fill in at Rover I could see Tae at Free which requires more of a cover guy

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

This is a legit win especially that he can come in for spring and learn the system. I know it's Vandy, but a starter in SEC and has played against big time opponent will definitely help rebuild in the secondary.

And sounds like he's a tackler. That's never a bad thing.

Welcome aboard Fam.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

Will be a strong contributor immediately. Might start might not but will be a competitor. Great pickup

I haven't watched any of his film yet, but adding an experienced P5 safety to the DB room sounds like a very good addition.

Portal giveth a little more!

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Praise be to Portal!

I have a feeling there is more DB attrition forthcoming

I am not going to spoil my film review, but even if no additional safeties leave, he will be a starter if healthy.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Dont know that you spoiled it, but you gave away the BLUF

Ah, but the "why" I think he will start (beyond the fact that he is experienced and a senior) is the piece worth tuning in for.

Looking forward to getting the "why". Thanks for all your hard work.

Go Hokies!!

Brings physicality to the game for sure. Can't wait to read the review!

It's dropping next week and it's also a great breakdown of what J-Ham did with Tech's safeties.

I'm looking forward to some positive speculation on what J-Ham will be able to do with a full off-season under the new social distancing norm.

He must hate cheese.

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

We got a starter!!!!! No need to read!!!! /s
