Got himself that class and pay check though.
Interesting note -- former VT QB commit Noah Kim signed for Mark Dantonio on that early signing day.
Noah Kim anagrams to Ham Oink.
Mark Dantonio anagrams to A Dormant Oink.
WTH was the $4.3 million bonus for??
Being there on that date.
1-time retention bonus; if you're still employed on this date, you get a bonus. Designed to retain coaches that may want to retire or leave for another school.
spool up the carousel
Interim? Or maybe Fickel at Cincy?
Fickel would be an interesting hire. Not sure the Mich St fanbase wants another defensive minded coach after going 15 years without an offense.
That sounds oddly familiar
Fickell has back-to-back 11-win seasons and signed 3 more 4* recruits this year than MichSt (ie. they signed 3, at a G5 job!). Fickell would be an absolute home run but I don't know they can pull it off this late in the cycle
Alright guys, if a random twitter account says they've seen Fuente and his wife in East Lansing, we keep our cool this time. Deal?
He's just listening.
MSU is a better job than VT in every facet
i'll believe it when bill roth says it!
This comment is Leonard Approved. Witty and brief wins the day.
Na, VT has one facet, we are the big dog in the state.
Nein. Penn State, Ohio State, Clemson, and Bama are the big dog in the state.
False. In East Lansing this morning it is 19 degrees, in Blacksburg it is 53.
Disagree. Nobody cares about sparty. I met more Ohio state and Badger fans in Michigan than State fans
Pretty much the only fans they have are their own graduates.
No. 1000 comment thread or bust.
Ftfy
Shayne Graham is on the MSU state staff.
My brother is an MSU grad/fan and told me last summer there were reliable rumors that he might retire/leave after the '19 season.
Live in Detroit with a lot of MSU fans (dating one but she no pay attention).
I imagine with the timing there are a lot of upset peeps in Lansing...
Hey JHam, how are you? this is Whit. Can we have a chat? Thanks
Dantonio is a proven successful DC and head coach. JHam is learning on the job.
Dantonio isn't stepping down as Sparty head coach to come be Hokies DC
Dantonio is in fact stepping down as sparty head coach.... that's the part to focus on.
from his own statement:
So he stayed long enough to get the recruits to sign and collect $4.3M? If I was the school, I'd have rather NOT paid him the $4.3M if he was going to be moving to some random staff role.
Really? I would never guessed that by the title of thread.
That staff was brought in not just to coach defense, but also to address a variety of recruiting weaknesses (not recruiting in the 757, not putting linemen in the NFL, etc). I'm quite satisfied with the staff right now, even if they are young and inexperienced. It was calculated, well thought out risk IMO.
EDIT: also, Dantonio is a historically mediocre recruiter. Not what our team needs right now.
Can I have some of whatever you are smoking?
As expected, although a little late
Fuck Pat Narduzzi.
I was scrolling for a Nardouche reference. Did not disappoint.

But I thought the thread said the Coaching Carousel had finished
I thought that was a bit premature. There is always some coach who get busted for something over the summer.
Yeah but Hugh Freeze is probably pretty safe at Liberty.
I love it!
I screwed up :(
What is dead may never die though, so the carousel is back up and running again!
I wonder if this had anything to do with his retirement?
Blackwell lawyers detail allegations that MSU's Mark Dantonio committed multiple NCAA violations
Only rival fans care about that nonsense... see Kansas hoops, UNC hoops, Baylor football, PSU football, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.... nobody else-recruits included- cares.
Yea, my thought is that there's only two reason Dantonio would leave at this point - either he wants his guy to get promoted, or he's being pushed out.
If you have a lead donor named "Skandalaris" then don't be surprised to end up in scandal.
Wonder if he's ever thought about acquiring Fraud Guarantee
I imagine that is one of the things which factored in his decision to "step down."
Yeah, this one sounds like there's more to the story than "spending more time with family." It's absolutely terrible timing for MSU. Who do they go after at this point? Luke Fickell? Pat Narduzzi?

I say Pat needs to stay right where he is. We take great pleasure in hating his rotten soul.
The old "spending more time with family" statement can mean many things...the one thing it DOESN'T mean is spending more time with family.
So what's the consensus on reason for stepping down? Is this a preemptive reassignment/retirement driven by the ongoing investigations at MSU? Health issues?
edit: Ok, you guys had similar thoughts, only with research attached. Thanks!
This was expected all season. Word is that he is tired of dealing with off-field issues combined with poor on-field play. This isn't being driven by administration.
Any word from Flight Tracker?
Very few candidates headed to China at the moment. Beyond that is unclear
Would be a real shame if Pat Narduzzi was their #1 target... Real shame.
So who is in charge of making the sacrifice to The Portal so some of those MSU players can come our way?
They don't have a single 4* recruit in their 2020 class so half this board would shit a brick if we brought one of their recruits on.
And yet their average recruit rating is still higher than ours ๐ค
They go interim, get a year of sanctions, then hire away Fickell
Couldn't have happened to a nicer enabling school.
