He has a case for a waiver - coaching change, and he immediately red-shirted himself after Head Coach Ash and OC McNulty were fired on September 29, 2019 indicating the impact the coaching change had on him.
He then entered the transfer portal in November 2019.

Fuente was listed as 1 of 5 coaches needing a big signing day by CFN, though it's not expected to transpire.
I'm also disappointed that UVA got (1) of the Top 100 recruits and UNC got (2) whilst we got none. (ESPN 300)
I know it's a small class, etc, etc.

UVA signed a kid that has to take a 2 year break from football and won't step foot on campus until 2022. Let's not give them more credit than they deserve with that one.

The class will be 17 kids, and they would have taken 19-20..but yeah, we were hindered this cycle because we only had 5 seniors, something something...

Every coach breathing that wins will take a 4 or 5 star High School kid regardless the numbers. That is, if you want to win at the highest level. VT didn't have that option, but if they did, Fuente would have made room for them, "small" class or not. but it's not worth it to "highly suggest" upperclassman role players to transfer if there are only 2-3 star HS kids replacing them.

If we had only taken 5 players to match the 5 graduating seniors, we'd have a recruiting class in the 120s (or worse). We needed to close on our top targets in this small class and we didn't.

A sample of teams with individual commits ranked higher that Tech's highest ranked commit: Colorado, Purdue, Nebraska, Georgia Tech, UVA, Iowa State, Boston College, and Cincy.

Well to be fair it is kinda a slow news day everywhere with the early signing period now being a thing. I don't have the numbers, but I think the bulk of the big time prospects sign during the ESP.

A little of both. But we couldn't hold the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball against Kentucky... so even the middling teams in that league have good players and big guys that can move.

Our 2020 class is not good. Run any advance numbers, slice it any way you want. Not only did we not get highly rated players, we did not address needs at all. It's not good. It will take luck and superior coaching to not have this hurt us in a big way 2-3 years from now. We will need transfers and JUCO's to supplement this, and that is not a way to sustain a successful program.

I sure as shit hope so, because of we really did pull in the quality of the 71st ranked class in the country, we are in for some truly dark years of VT Football in the very near future.

Based on reading the twitter leaves and other comments from Fu and the staff, sounds like it is set up to be a top class. There seems to be some real energy with the #tx2vt movement, and helps that a lot of the kids want to play together.
I've seen some recruiting reports that shows some top recruits showing interest/renewed interest too. So could be a good year. Not only that, but it is anticipated to be a big class.
As for this years ranking, we have to just hope that the coaches ability to evaluate talent shows up. Because we had so many young players, we may not have to really be worried about the 2020 class, as we will still have a lot of returners but will also have new blood coming in to.

On the eye-test - Dallan Wright just became the sleeper of this class. Elite athlete.
25 TDs in a year is impressive no matter how many stars the crooting services award. That's 2+ per game.
I thought I saw DJ Lundy was announcing at 8:30 but have not heard anywhere what his decision was
Same. 247 had his announcement as 8:30
Signed with Florida State
Guess they had a 5 year relationship with him.
2021 is our year.
next year is ALWAYS our year.
And every bar has free beer tomorrow...
Pretty that was I'm Cowherds' UVA rant too lol. Now here we are......"hello darkness my old friend."
Blackshear will need a waiver to play next year

He has a case for getting denied. We're VT
His waiver should be "I played for Rutgers". NCAA "You've suffered enough young man. Immediate eligibility granted"
"Yes, but then you signed with VT. Waiver denied."

Signing in Feb is sooooooo 2016. At this point National signing day is for late bloomers and troublemakers.

Yep there was a reason BYU was his other school.
I just looked at the rundown on Scoremobile.
But how was he ranked at 78, if he can't play for two years?
No idea but as a Mormon he has to go on his Mission for 2 years before he goes to UVA.
Ah

more takes means more attrition though. We better hope some of these developmental projects pop because we didn't close on our top targets this cycle

I wish The Critic was brought back to TV, instead of Family Guy

No love for Toledo?
Apropos of nothing, was watching the NSD preview on espn (I know) and saw this and just shook my head😔
South Carolina has 8 ESPN300 commits, including the #4 player overall (J Burch):
that's good for ELEVENTH in the SEC croot rankings for the cycle.
🤷♂️
That Burch saga is something else though. Right now, Mama Burch isn't letting his LOI be sent to South Carolina
National Signing Day... sadly, a very slow news day in B-burg. :-(

Very true. An underwhelming ESD, followed by the portal exodus and.now a very uneventful NSD is not confidence inducing.
Does SEC get all the big recruits or are they big recruits cause they going to the SEC???
A little of both. But we couldn't hold the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball against Kentucky... so even the middling teams in that league have good players and big guys that can move.
Just throwing this out there.
UVA had a similar recruiting class then we did, with 16 commits and ended up with a ranking of 48.

I think this class is underrated

But what if we land some big dawg for the 21 class
We'll need to have one of our best classes in probably the last 15 years to balance this one out.
Imagine
USC just signed the 51st ranked class. First time in 14 straight years the class is not ranked in the top 20. How do you think their fans feel?
Probably not great but WTF does that have to do with VT?
Like, how do you think Queen Elizabeth feels about her grandson scooting out of the Royal family? Probably not great but do you really care?

Damatrius Davis keeps posting all his offers. It is scaring me.
but on the other hand
True. He has offers from Miami and Auburn now. Hope he stays committed to the good guys.
What, in your opinion, were our needs?
