Jeron Gouveia-Winslow joining coaching staff

https://www.si.com/college/virginiatech/football/sources-virginia-tech-e...

The Virginia Tech Hokies are expanding the football coaching staff, as former linebacker Jeron Gouveia-Winslow ('08-'12) is expected to join the program in a support staff role, sources told AllHokies.com on Monday.

A formal announcement is expected from the football program later this week.

Gouveia-Winslow, who was a three-year starter at linebacker and former team captain for the Hokies under Frank Beamer, has been serving as the Assistant Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator for Division III Brevard College in North Carolina.

Gouveia-Winslow has served on staff in varying capacities at Brevard College since 2017. Prior to Brevard, Gouveia-Winslow served as the defensive backs coach at Stone Bridge High School in Fairfax in 2014, and as the defensive line coach intern at the University of Hawaii in 2015.

Gouveia-Winslow, who is a Fairfax, Virginia native, will likely serve as another important piece to Tech's coaching staff as the Hokies try to improve recruiting in the state of Virginia.

With Gouveia-Winslow's knowledge of Northern Virginia, coupled with his experience as a contributing member to Virginia Tech's defense as a player, this could prove to be a very important hire to the Hokies for in-state recruiting.

I can get behind this he was one of my favorites as a player who always played with a chip on the shoulder.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

And some folks were saying that VT isn't committed to in-state recruiting...

Rumor is they're assigning him to recruit North and South Dakota....

Great hire. Truly enjoyed watching him play!

The Dakotas are my turf.

More recruiters is not a bad thing. Especially alumni with ties within the commonwealth.

Especially alumni with ties within the commonwealth.

And a Dad who won two Super Bowl rings for the nameless local NFL team.

Bringing in JGW and one of the Fuller brothers on the same day is a major win for this program that should pay big dividends on the crootin' trail.

Awesome! His pick six off EJ Manuel really set the tone in the 2010 ACCCG. Can't believe that was 10 years ago already.

Which angle do we want to watch?

Amazing play by Bruce Taylor there. Big time range.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

At no point does the reciever look open to me, but I guess you can make that throw against most college linebackers, cause he tried it.

And yet that QB went high in the draft and was given countless opportunities to succeed. Guess Bud could add to that list a lot.

We put the K in Kwality

To be fair to EJ, Bud made a lot of QBs look bad.

There was a window... late throw and big range by Taylor decimated that window

If NCAA 2014 has taught me anything it's that the DB will turn and pick that ball off. So while in real life he might be open for a split second I would never take that shot.

God I loved that helmet/uni combination!! How was this 10 years ago already....

Nice, always seems like a hard working dude who gave a whole lot and seems to have worked his way up the coaching ranks from high school to lower div college which is always great to see in the realm of upward mobility. Plus an alum so great

Awesome. Played on some legit defenses. We need more of those dudes on staff.

Yes bring him on, lets get the NOVA recruits

That is a sweet gig.

On the surface, sure. Hang out in Honolulu- which is just an urban city on the ocean. As an intern, I'm guessing it was long unglamorous hours that left little time for surfing. Head coach in Maui? I'm listening. Intern in Honolulu? meh. - granted I wouldn't turn it down...just saying!

Regardless of his free time, it sounds like it would have been an awesome experience. And even interns get some days off.

Hawaii plays defense?

Admittedly, my Hawaii experience was a long time ago (mid-1950's), but there were no hula girls that met us getting off the plane and I got run over by a car on the first day of going to school by myself. That accident broke my leg, knocked a chip off my kneecap, and I lost my two front permanent teeth. Not the best way to create fond memories.

The plane ride over frightened my Mom no end. It was her first flight in a plane. The plane was an Navy prop engine cargo plane (this was in the pre-commercial jet engine days) that was loud, rattled and was cold. The web seats were uncomfortable. Just before landing (in the dark of night), life vests were passed out because the there was a chance that the plane would overshoot the runway and go into the ocean. After my Mom got her vest on, she noticed there was something called "shark chaser" labeled on the vest, and she was freaking out wanting to know what she was supposed to do with that!

More in-state people, nice. And of course always good to have a former Hokie player.

Always good to have a Fuller on the team.

The staff roster is much Fuller now.

If Corey had another year of eligibility he would lit the field aflame. awesome to have them both back

And thus begins the quest to add all 4 Fullers to the coaching staff

Pretty sure Vinny is a lawyer now.

We can have him on retainer for the lawyer who threatens to sue the shit out of the NCAA when we need something done, like immediate transfer eligibility or a dismissal of accusations of not abiding by their "rules"

Jimmy Turk ain't going to be around forever...

Sign him up.

Now that's what I'm talking about...If Fuller is on-board he might be able to convince the relatives of Fullers to come to VT. Thats what I'm looking forward to.

Wait more former Hokies to Fuente's staff but I was informed he wanted to erase the Beamer years.

He's absolutely right that many fans have taken that stance though. If it wasn't Fireman or he used a slightly different tone, it wouldn't be catching downvotes.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

I disagree with your second sentence. He took an exciting announcement about a Hokie alum joining the staff and purposefully trolled the post to push an argument. Has nothing to do with who posted it - that is noise and it doesn't create discussion, it creates arguments for arguments' sake.

And yet we have a comment saying what about folks saying we weren't serious about Virginia recruiting with several up votes. Once again, we don't down vote opinions, unless they can be construed as negative.

"That's it guys. Let's get out of here. That cold drink's waitin' on us, let's go." - Mike Young after win no. 300.

You're not wrong. I feel like 90% of the site is argument for argument's sake and snark is almost always allowed though.

I'll add that I'd probably prefer this comment over reviving an old thread or starting a new topic.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

NO IT'S NOT!

He can't recruit his home state. His boss told him he needs to do so more effectively. He hires young assistants that played here and know the state... that is what this is about. Beamer has been at the lake for 6 years now. Time to give that a rest.

Who are you and what have you done with the real dcwilson40?

This is the real dcwilson40. He's got some pretty good takes on sports, but just tends to fly off the handle when you bring up such topics as Kevin McCadam and point differential.

Nub nu, bud. ;^)

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

LOL- nice pull

Good to see CJF is filling up the expense buckets before budgets get slashed.

This is the thread to ask:

Wasn't there a memorable quote from Bud Foster about him or am I misremembering it?

“But do kind of enjoy reading this thread, it's really nice because Auburn can't swoop in and take our juicy ripe tomatoes.” ~ lewiswb

"I thought the kid right you're talking to right there played his nutts off," Foster said of Exum. "You can quote me on that shit too. Played his ass off. Fought his ass off."

this was a quote about Antone Exum. Not sure if that's what you're referring to but it's worth posting anyway. Love Coach Foster.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

Jeron Gouveia-Winslow sounds like the name of an heir of a Bavarian chocolate fortune.

Zero parts of his name are German, and I doubt any of the chocolate makers in Bavaria are big enough to have created generational wealth. Most of the big candy/chocolate companies are over in the Nordrhein-Westphalen region. The Lindt museum in Koln is pretty impressive.

If you love chocolate, the answer you are looking for is Belgium.

Wittamer should be a destination if you ever make it to Brussels.

Spendy, but ridiculously good chocolate.

Chocolatier Dumon in Bruges is the best chocolate I've ever had. Pierre Marcolini in Brussels is also fantastic and pricey.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

Good stuff. If you're going to get really fancy, and money's no object, I'd recommend Mary in Brussels.

You're welcome.

But seriously, any of these places are good for chocolate lovers.

JGW's play in that championship game helped us to forget his play in the final drive of the Boise game.

Wait, what?

We lost that game b/c we were down 21-0 to start the game. Then, when we had a chance to clinch it, Stinespring called several head scratching plays, which followed up with us stalling in the red zone. A touchdown there, and game over. That was followed by Bud going prevent (cover 4, what ever it was), with no pressure on K Moore on the final drive. Look at our other wins, when we take the lead with less than a minute to go. We hammer the hell out of the QB.

Anyways, JGW had a hell of a 2010 season, and I won't take that from him.

TKPhi Damn Proud
BSME 2009

If I recall correctly, JGW got torched on the go-ahead touchdown for Boise right at the end of the game. And he was out of position a bunch the following week on QB options, and we all know how that went. The early part of that season was not good for him.

Well, I'm glad you still remember at least.

Had to watch the 2010 ACCCG last night. It was a good, how-was-this-10-years-ago, time.

That was a great game to be at. The Florida State fans sitting behind us needled us and teased us the entire first half. Then they got up and left the stadium at the end of the third quarter. They knew the game was a loss for them.

They knew the game was a loss for them.

...and they couldn't take the cold. I almost couldn't, either.

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

Turkeys love the cold.

I'm happy to see this for JGW. He caught a lot of criticism after the first two weeks of the 2010 season because he missed a lot of tackles, but he kept his head down and was a very solid player the rest of his career. Additionally, we need to be focusing our attention in northern Virginia the most as far as in state recruiting goes. If it isn't already, I believe it will be the most talent rich part of the state in a few years. Hiring someone who knows the area and is from there is a good move on CJF's part.

Head coach Justin Fuente announced on Wednesday that Corey Fuller and Jeron Gouveia-Winslow have returned to the football program and will serve as assistant directors of player personnel. This accomplished duo joins a notable list of other former Tech players already serving in various capacities on the football staff for the Hokies.

We are excited that Corey and Jeron have returned to Blacksburg to serve as assistant directors of player personnel," Fuente said. "They both bring the skills and the talent we needed to add to our recruiting efforts. In addition to their vantage point as former Tech players, they also have a keen understanding of the type of individuals who fit our program and can succeed both academically and athletically at Virginia Tech

Important to note these are two NEW staff positions not replacing anyone. Fuente wanted bigger staff and seems like he is getting it.

I just hope someone can get in Jeron's ear about fixing his display name on Twitter. It's Gouveia-Winlsow on there right now.

Update: It's fixed now. I take full credit.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Never forget, Corey Fuller started the #KU2VT pipleline

So we can blame him for Ryan Willis?

After reading all the shit tweets by another former player kicked off the team, let's not. Willis did what he could in a Hokie uniform, and we can at least give him a courtesy golf clap for it.
