It will be interesting to see how he develops. Seems to have a high ceiling.

Here is the film. He has all the measurables, and is incredibly raw. I see lots of false steps that will hurt him in P5 football unless he breaks those habits. That said, Vance Vice, for whatever shortcomings I see in the techniques he teaches, has a knack for finding players which may be underrecruited that fit what he is wanting to do. Christian Darrisaw was incredibly raw. Lecitus Smith had the tools, but was being recruited by most teams as a TE. Luke Tenuta was under the radar, as was Silas Dzansi.

He has been working with a former Bengals OL coach, who endorsed him Miletic on twitter.

Jordan Mailata got drafted into the NFL based on some rugby videos. This guy doesn't have that size (no comment on speed, haven't really watched anything on him) but imagine getting 5 years to coach him up? Love the upside of this kid.

That's some really high praise!

I like him. He gets up inside really nice, and he looks mean. I want a line full of guys that just wanna hit a dude.

Leonard. Duh.

The Clark guy looked great in his HS film too. Then he got to camp, and as a DL "I never lost a rep to Austin Clark." Look at the feet, initial steps, how he maintains leg drive, and effort. He has all those things. It will just take some work.

I will take that after some guy who is bench pressing 200 pound HS kids into the ground with his feet planted (which is an adept description of several VHSL four star OL who went on to do jack and squat in college.)

I'm shocked we've kept Vice on the staff for as long as we have. I think he has done a great job.

Last OL coach to last this long....

agree. I think Vice has done a tremendous job. The OL has looked much better since his arrival and our OL recruiting has been great as he knows how to spot talent he can coach up, as French mentioned.

And yet the message boards were certain that Vice was the worst coach, not pulling his weight, and needed to go only a few years ago.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

I think Kill did more to help Vice than anything else. His recruiting and ability to scout talent has been an asset, but the line seemed to play meaner after Kill came in.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Luke Tenuta was under the radar

I never thought Tenuta was under the radar at all.

He was a mid range 3* with only a handful of offers from P5 schools. He had some increased name recognition because of his dad but I think under the radar means that most would say he has exceeded expectations on the field thus far.

Germany to VT movement?

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:

Right, but we'd all rather see the Dean in his costume.

Jake Grove was 6'-3" and 300 lbs., IIRC, so hey he's almost there already!

Jake Grove was on whole different level of Nasty. One of my favorites.

(finally, I get to make a second Dead Kennedys joke on here)

You're the only ones that I can talk to about this, you guys.

Prefacing statement - this is far easier said than done. One of the ways VT could "hack the system" is to become a brand for tough O-lineman from different walks of life.

Recruiting O-line isn't as much about stars and hype as it is potential, toughness, work ethic and grit over a sustained period of time. VT's culture suits the potential (key word) to bring in high potential players (think tough, gritty, country with self-determination) and turn them into o-line stars over 3-5 years. This is an opportunity for FU to establish a new era that distinguishes the new VT football brand from Beamerball.

Again, I know it's not easy. You have to sell what you got and find your niche and I believe this is an area VT can excel given the right focus and strategy.

I like the idea, but I don't think this is a hack. Isn't tough O-Line a part of Wisconsin's core philosophy? Big uglies for the win! And while we are at it, let's get the tough gritty D-Line guys too!

The hack is effectively leveraging the outdoors, blue collar identity of Southwest VA and Virginia Tech to appeal to "blue collar" recruits. I think it's shown to be an effective strategy and reminds me of the approach by the wrestling team.

In a scenario like this, ideally you have the depth so he doesn't have to play for 3 years. I think we are getting there. These things don't work out when kids like this have to play their RS freshman year because you didn't recruit enough OL, coach Newsome.
