OT: Tiger King - Netflix

I know that there is a 2020 TV thread but I really feel this series deserves its own thread. I just finished it last night, and let me tell you, it is the most wheels off documentary I think you will ever watch. The train wreck that is this whole group of people is absolutely insane, and you can't look away.

I will also say that that the last episode has one of the best shots of all time for documentary films (the shot with the jet ski) and the funeral scene and eulogy... I mean I don't even know what to say.

Carole totally killed her husband!

I was 50/50 on it until she started talking about covering a body in sardine oil.

How were you 50/50 for THAT LONG?!!!

If you play it, they will win.

I was 99% that she put him in the trunk of the car that broke down at 3am, which her brother took care of, while she got a ride home from his partner. Then the sardine oil comment. I'm now 50/50 on how she disposed of him. And 50/50 on additional people getting the oil treatment.

100%... Adult's don't "disappear" they don't... Fugitives facing multiple life sentences call relatives, use ATMs, etc. and get caught. She 100% killed him for his money.

This is one of the best music videos of all time.

(in case it wasn't obvious, Joe didn't sing/write the songs)

It's the only show I can't binge. Not because its bad but its so bat shit insane that after every episode I have to sit in silence for 30 minutes processing what the fuck just happened.

(add if applicable) /s

100% agree, but like any train wreck you gotta see WTF happens next.

This show was fucking wild. Whenever I describe it, I can't help but think of a Stefan voice...

"This show has everything! Tigers. Polygamists. Amputees. A handy hitman. A man that wears a collar."

You get the point.

I love the tickle of Dickel in my belly

O...M...G... YES!!!

Stefan is the ONLY one suitable to review that show.

If you play it, they will win.

I hate that I also finished this last night. With all of the real stress in my life right now, it was refreshing to watch a train wreck that had absolutely nothing to do with me. It will be missed.

And CAROLE DEFINITELY, WITHOUT A DOUBT KILLED HER HUSBAND!!! I'm not even positive she wasn't plottin' on her current one. That bitch shady!!!

If you play it, they will win.

My brother and I played a fun game, if you had to work for one of doc, joe tiger, and carole how would you rank them and why?

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

I love the tickle of Dickel in my belly

Doc - seems like the least crazy place to work, which is saying something
Joe - four wheelers are fun
Carole - don't want to be put in the meat grinder

Easy, Doc. Batshit? For sure. But there's constantly pretty decent looking gals galavanting about and Myrtle Beach has more golf courses than you can shake a stick at.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I'm going with Carol. She's a terrible human being, but it seemed like I can voluntarily show up and voluntarily leave. She admitted she doesn't know who is working at her "rescue," so I would stay anonymous to her. The other two seemed like it would be way harder to leave. With Joe, I would have too much empathy for his animals and I would get trapped in an obsession and think that they need me to take care of them (otherwise, who would). And with Doc, it seems you don't choose to stay or leave with his group. I doubt I have the features for Doc to hire me in the first place, so he might ask me to leave before I even get to pet the tiger cub.

๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ

Why did they decide to interview the Handyman Hitman in the bathtub. I mean WTF?

Also, did you notice when Saff lost her arm in the tiger cage dude had the time to change into a EMT bomber jacket before he went out there to help?

The drip never stops.

I love the tickle of Dickel in my belly

I was just about to post this!

What's
Important
Now

Just started watching this last night, only 2 episodes in, it is amazing.

Who am I supposed to be rooting for? lol

My favorite part so far is when Joe Exotic's employee gets her arm mauled by the tiger, and the first thing that motherfucker does, is run inside to get his EMY leather jacket!

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Who am I supposed to be rooting for? lol

No one. They all deserve to be in jail.

There is no hero in this show

Saff

Arm ripped off, amputated 2 days later, back at work 5 days after that.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

Agree. I literally wanted everyone to get coronavirus. This is the worst show ever and unfortunately I never quit a show I start. I wish I'd never started...

Going to skip through the spoilers and come straight to post. Through the second episode, total, unmitigated trainwreck already. Absolutely amazing.

Old sigline: I've been cutting back on the drinking.

New Sigline: lol it's football season.

Wait until Episode 5...not sure I've ever laughed that hard watching a non-comedy. Not sure I've ever laughed that hard at a comedy and I sharted during There's Something About Mary.

The "Eulogy" scene literally had me in tears...absolutely unbelievable.

This show definitely proves the old adage the truth is stranger than fiction. I mean, if you wrote this stuff, no one would pick it up. It is just batshit insane, but all the more insane because it is actual, real human beings.

"Sooner or later, if man is ever to be worthy of his destiny, we must fill our heart with tolerance."

My best friend described it as "If Florida was a TV show" and he was not lying. What a horrible trainwreck of humanity that I could not stop watching. When is season 2? lol

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
โ€œI served in the United States Navy"

KCCO

This. Can't tell you how many times they would remind you that it was OK and my mind was blown. I knew where they were, but my mind just kept going back to FL.

If you play it, they will win.

"How the ass pocket will be used, I do not know. Alls I know is, the ass pocket will be used." -The BoD

Carole's park is in Florida

I know, but my mind kept thinking the entire thing was because...well...FL. Only to be repeatedly reminded differently.

If you play it, they will win.

1. It was totally amazing to me that there is a Tiger park in Oklahoma with 225 tigers in it. Seriously. WHO knew that?? and 2. at around 9 months, if a Tiger wants to clamp your neck down and kill you, they can do it in about 3 seconds. Those meth heads are very very lucky they weren't all killed by adolescent Tigers. Very lucky. They would be dead before they could move if those tigers wanted to or got a wild hair up their ass. the whole series was surreal to me.

Why do you think Joe picks up randos at the busstop? Free workers....

I was almost vomiting when the employees were taking the "best" meat from the Walmart trucks!

Yep, and guessing past due Baloney is not the best for a tiger's diet, either

But it's great on pizza!

@BuryHokie #ThanksFrank

The only two people I liked/felt sorry in the whole ordeal was Joe's park manager and his head keeper. Both seemed like pretty ok dudes who had lived some rough lives but sorta "came out of the fire" kind a thing. I wanted to pat the manager on the back when he seemed hurt that the feds didn't want his info.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I also feel pretty bad for the girl "Saff", who lost her arm.

Also: Jeff Lowe. That guy is in line for, like...being on the receiving end of a murder, right?

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

The feds are building multiple felony cases on him. He is going to sit in jail for a very long time. Extortion, money laundering, illegal sale of big cats, robbery, etc etc

Who really knows, but when I first saw him my gut reaction was he and his friend (the big guy who owns all the strip clubs) are part of the remnants of the old Vegas mob/mafia. How else does he have this reputation for "business", apparently has all this money, yet dresses and acts like a total tool.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

This was like watching the Wild and Wonderful Whites all over again

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

True story: I used to live in the same town as the Whites. They are even worse than they are portrayed as in the Wild and Wonderful Whites.

Obviously this show lacked any redeeming Major characters. And I think the reality show guy was right when he summed it up that Joe didn't really love the animals all that much ands just used them to fuel his celebrity and as revenue.

But I really disliked Carol. I hope her army of "cool cats and kitties" sees what a mess she and Howard are after this. And I bet Howard is suing the documentarian as we speak.

Howard reminded of Prince Charles crossed with Mitch McConnell, could not get it out of my head when they interviewed him.

Also, Joe's TV producer, Rick Kirkham, is a wild guy too. There's a documentary on him about how he was a very respected reporter for Inside Edition while also battling serious alcohol and crack addiction. Apparently he just smoked crack all night, didn't sleep, and would go to work the next morning. Also interviewed President H.W. while high on crack - about drug addiction nonetheless.

Saff was the only redeeming character in the whole damn thing.

Carole killed her husband

Joe blew up that office. Oh, and those were Michael Jackson's alligators, FYI

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

Joe Exotic might be THE halloween costume to have in 2020...

Didn't you hear? Halloween is canceled.

The girlfriend and I were gonna go as Joe Exotic and a tiger for halloween, but after seeing how huge the show has blown up, I'm thinking every other person will have the same costume.

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

My question is how the hell did Joe get 19% of the vote for the governor's race in Oklahoma? WTF! I wonder what those who voted for him are thinking after seeing this?

He got 19% of the Libertarian vote, but 100% of the Libertarian vote in Jackson County. All told, he got 664 votes.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

That makes a lot more sense. I thought he got 19% overall.

lol with the way it was portrayed it seemed he was 3rd overall. I don't know why the film felt the need to misdirect like that. It's still funny either way because of the way he talked about it.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

I want to know so much more about Mario Tabraue. Despite only being in one episode, there seems to be enough material there for a documentary series on him alone.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

A mix between 'Narcos' and 'Tiger King'

If you don't want to recruit clowns, don't run a clown show.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

And they just sorta skimmed over him, too. "Yeah, you know Scarface?? This is him! But anyways, back to Oklahoma..."

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Did a quick google search on him...here are some notable items

1. Once dealt drugs with Marco Rubio's brother-in-law (!)
2. Was given a 100 year sentence in prison but only served 12 years due to acting as a police informant in prison
3. Accused of murdering a police informant and covering it up
4. Accused of murdering his first wife and covering it up
5. At one time he used the drug trafficking ring to fund his exotic animal collection in which he partly used snakes to smuggle drugs into the country (this was sort of glossed over in the documentary)

Other than that, he's a real sweetheart

I have one episode remaining and I'm avoiding it. I don't want it to end! I just had a thought... none of us knew about any of this craziness just a couple of weeks ago. Makes me wonder about all of the other outlandish shit in this world we're oblivious to.

What you didn't know about Doc Antle: The 60-year old former animal trainer, whose name actually does appear to be Mahamayavi Bhagavan Antle (Bhagavan means "Lord" in Hindi), though he was called Kevin at school, says he trained as a doctor in China.

though he was called Kevin. This whole totally checks out.

"Two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I am not yet completely sure about the universe.โ€ -Einstein

And there's Doc Antle too

Also, John Finlay has got him some new teeth

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

And John Finlay finally bought a shirt...bless his heart

Well good for John Finlay. He was one that I just kind of felt bad for in that show.

If you don't want to recruit clowns, don't run a clown show.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

Antle being a rapist and pedophile was glossed over too much, IMO.

I've watched through episode 4 so far. After every episode I tell myself that I cannot believe this is real, but deep down I know it is.

I've completely lost faith in humanity. This show and it's people are the worst. It's shocking to me, the variety and spectrum of education and intelligence in the human race. It's almost like some are a different species. The eulogy/funeral scene, come on man...

I'm glad that's over.

Tiger King is the straw that broke the camels back for you?

Lol. No that camel broke it's back and I had to shoot it years ago. But for whatever reason, I'm still amazed and shocked by stupidity and ignorance. I have no idea why I still get amazed by it, but I do.

Brokeback is right

Due to the popularity of the show, the sheriff in Hillsborough County (Tampa) has asked for leads to re-open the 1997 cold case into the murder of Don Lewis. I guess this could be the makings of a season 2, especially if Joe Exotic gets the pardon from the President he requested.

Goodie!

Knew it was only a matter of time

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

OMG fucking don't pardon Joe Exotic. Literally 90% of the characters in the show deserve to be in jail, and he's the only one who actually ends up there.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

It's crazy to me the uproar of him profiting off of anything then there are 5 minutes of credits scrolling with people that have profited off of him.

Them tigers ate some human

My wife and i binged through it last name. A few thoughts:

1. All characters are crazy. There's no one to root for. I admit I think Carole is the most sane relative to all of them, but only if you overlook the suspicion of her and her ex husband. I don't think Don Lewis was the best guy either, but they certainly portray her as crazy - maybe that's just Netflixs' angle. And I don't like the volunteers who she doesn't pay for YEARS?!

2. I understand the hate between Joe and Carole - if you see someone as trying to take the food off your table then I can understand why Joe hated Carole so much, for example. But his reaction (including the shooting, snake, explosions etc) is what's wrong with this country. Too many unhinged lying people who we give a platform to which just inspires other crazies to do the same.

3. The biggest losers here indeed are the Cats. The ones in captivity and the ones in the wild. Maybe this will spur donations to legitimate organizations (WWF etc.), but I felt so bad for the animals.

Think WWE "enemies". All about the ratings and choosing sides....

To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
@BuryHokie #ThanksFrank

The quote in their about Joe and Carole being Hatfields and McCoys I thought was spot on. So much of their identity is just being against the other.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

Definitely agree with 3. Overlooking the death and disappearance of Carole's husband, my biggest problem with Carole is that she was a breeder that then turned into an activist that conveniently still keeps big cats for her capital gain and some donations to help the cats. And she's striving to shut down other big cat keepers, which conveniently end up in her rescue. I don't know, her rescue seems like a really shitty thing.

๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ

I go back and forth with it. I do believe her park is more ethical, even if she's doing it for the wrong reasons. It certainly comes across as hypocritical though.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

She doesn't pay her staff.. Screw her, she is scum too.

This isn't directed at you specifically, yours seems to be a common opinion. Has no one ever volunteered at a food bank before? That really is how it comes across to me in terms of how her volunteer program is run and the motivations of the people who do it. Comparing that directly to say Doc, who's straight up running a cult, is false equivalence to me.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

Food banks don't profit from charging patrons hundreds of dollars to look at the cans.

But I have paid big bucks to look at cans.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

What salary does she gets paid to run the non-profit? There are a lot of non-profits that pay the people who set it up and/or their family member hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. Those that don't take much salary like to talk about what they are paid. Those who don't talk about their salaries are usually getting bank.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

It's true that we don't know how much she gets paid. It still seems like you have to make several leaps, assumptions, and uneven comparisons to make it seem like she's even close to as bad as Joe or Doc are plainly established to be. I don't think it would bother me as much if people didn't paint her as THE #1 VILLAIN, as opposed to one of many shady sideshows, as seems to the popular opinion.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

Plus she killed her husband and is living off his property, assets and cash. So that $100+k is fo shizzle.

Again, I still don't get this argument. How much is a reasonable amount for them to be paid? 55k-62k for the CEO of a non-profit sounds like peanuts to me.

Let's bring this closer to home. The average salary from a graduate of this college at the entry level is in that ballpark. Higher if you're engineering.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

Definitely not that high in architecture.

Lol.

You're probably right. I just think she's a master manipulator. And probably a murderer.

To me it's not the amount, as she doesn't need money. She made $5-20M in the 90s from her husband "disappearing" and leaving his money behind. It's the fact she is still interacting with, getting fame from, and profiteering (even at a small amount) the cats. Utilizing her non-profit, she's taking advantage of the system for her personal gain. She could easily use the money to put the cats on a distant range (such as the ones owned by San Diego zoo) that is agnostic to the interaction, fame and profit.

๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ

She should be paid. My biggest question is what is she rescuing these cats from if she is also putting them in a small cage for people to gawk at. Well that is a lie, my biggest question is whether she fed her husband to the tigers alive or dead.

"You don't stare into a rearview mirror"

CareFirst is a non profit.... that has millions of dollars and pays very well

I'm only half-way through episode 2 but this looks like its going to be fun.... I'm surprised nobody mentioned Shaq at all... He was either very careful or completely unaware of his choice of words in his major quote - "Do I own tigers personally at my house? No."... so, where are the Tigers then?

I read the same article and thats where I pulled the quote from. The way I read it there is no additional clarity to Shaq's quote - all he did was deny owning any tigers at his house.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

Finally finished it tonight. The last couple of episodes were down right jaw dropping.

I think Joe gets out early. Presidential pardon? Good behavior? Informant? Who knows, but I don't think he's going to be in prison long.

I think they hint that was intentional. He kept changing names to make things marginally more difficult for Carole's lawyers.
