Football vs Pitt - Justin Fuente Postgame

Watching this, Fuente is tired of our shit, and fuck if we aren't tired of his bullshit excuses.

For someone who is paid millions of dollars a year to coach a game, he needs to stop acting like a prissy little bitch.

Interesting to see JHam balance being coordinator, covid, and having a son. He definitely has a lot on his plate.

This vid was posted on 11/3 FYI. Has nothing to do with the last three games.

You right. Im drunk. I will take another drink for constancy sake.

That is a painful watch.

We put the K in Kwality

If I know anything, I know he does not give a fuck about the fans.

disappointed we couldn't convert on 3rd and short, 4th and short

Welp, yeah, tends to be difficult to do that when your OC calls the exact same play in that situation time after time after time. 2nd Best Rushing Defense in the Nation---"well we'll just run the QB Draw like we always do," ---bold offensive strategy, there.

got a little rhythm offensively there, felt pretty good in the 2nd half even

Oh yeah, Coach? You mean the Half we scored Zero points in??

I don't know anybody understands how hard any of this is...

No, nobody at all. Not like every other Football Program in the Country has had to deal with COVID. Just you, Coach.

This is so tired. Why bother with the excuses? You're over your head, its obvious. Do the right thing, negotiate your buyout and move on. Both you and VT will be better off the sooner this relation is severed.

"prissy little bitch."

The Fuente quote about play calling duties is bad, but I think it's even more noteworthy that he had no problem with the 3rd and 4th down calls on offense, and specifically with regards to running the QB even when pressed on the lack of success there over three games

This is what kills me. He's said it's worked for years so why stop? A coach needs to adapt and change based on the current situation, not what worked against ECU in 2016. Every other team we play should look at that quote and just look back at what we have done in situations and then just defend against that if it comes up in a game since Fuente has no intentions to innovate.

If you can't handle my shit posts, you don't deserve my memes

I'm a little sympathetic to Fuente. He's been training for 20 years to be a football coach, and nothing in his career has prepared him for dealing with the ins and outs of COVID. Yea, everyone has to deal with it, but it's worth noting that a lot of coaches with a pretty strong track record are struggling way more than normal this year (Franklin, Orgeron, Harbaugh, Ferentz to name a few).

Ultimately, I no longer believe that Fuente is the right person to lead Virginia Tech football, but I do think he'll be a successful head coach somewhere else one day. I don't have any ill-will towards him, and I don't expect him to negotiate down his buyout (this is literally one of the dumbest things I've ever seen written on TKP). I think it's trashy for fans to go on message boards and call him a 'prissy little bitch' - He's failing at his job, but that's no reason for personal attacks.

Twitter me

I don't expect him to negotiate down his buyout (this is literally one of the dumbest things I've ever seen written on TKP)

No one expects him to. That doesn't make it not the right thing to do. Do you really think his job prospects are going to be better after getting drubbed by 50+ by Clemson and losing a 2nd straight Commonwealth Cup?

Let the Interim Coach get started and see what he can salvage of this Recruiting Class. With Fuente, expect multiple more Decommits before Signing Day. He's doing nothing more than making it harder on the next guy at this point.

And, at this point, COVID is an excuse and nothing more. Again, at the beginning of the year if you wanted to use that, no problem.
-Had we come out and laid an egg against NC State and you want to use COVID as an excuse?--No Problem, reasonable and understandable.

-Want to use COVID as an excuse after successive losses against teams missing Multiple starters (both multiple OL) and significantly more players than your team? That's nothing but a weak excuse and a dumb one at that.

Why is negotiating down his buy out the right thing to do? I've struggled at my job before, no way in hell I'm leaving without a severance package that was promised to me should I be let go not-for-cause.

And, at this point, COVID is an excuse and nothing more. Again, at the beginning of the year if you wanted to use that, no problem.

COVID impacts everything. These players can't experience their regular college life, and that affects their mental health. The coaches have to put a ton of extra work in to recreate practice plans, etc. Some coaches are better equipped to handle this. As I said above, other coaches with an otherwise good track record are failing.

With all the suffering going on in this world I don't feel the need to direct any sympathy to a millionaire with a healthy family who is set for life financially regardless of his job performance.
I will focus my ut prosim values on those who need it.

Hokie Club member since 2017

They might be COVID healthy and financially stable, but come on, the guys working 80+ hour weeks, never sees his family, probably gets ridiculed every time he goes to the grocery store. His kids and wife probably can't go out in public without hearing something about their husband/fathers professional struggles.

Also, not sure how Ut Prosim fits in here? No one is asking you to serve him or even help him, just don't be a dick. I think it's reasonable to ask fans to criticize his work, not his personality. I'm really not setting The bar that high...

Fuente doesn't have the skillset to lead this program, and it's time for Whit to move on. As someone who has once been over his head at my job before, I sympathize. I know what it feels like to want to succeed so badly and let down everyone around you (albeit on a much smaller scale than Fuente) and it sucks. That's all.

Twitter me

"I think it's trashy for fans to go on message boards and call him a 'prissy little bitch'"

That's your opinion. I disagree.

It's a message board. Get over it.

Hard no.

I downlegged all comments (and topics) that used this phrase or anything similarly classless.

It's possible to take the high road while still being critical.

Agree 100% on no personal attacks. That said, excuses are like peeling the skin off of a lie. He's beat and doesn't know how to right this ship. Play calling sucks and is very, very predictable. Our tackling is horrible. It's nauseating to see the same mistakes over and over. I see mistakes that shouldn't be made at this level. Certainly looks like a coaching change is needed.

COVID has nothing to do with the most important thing he hasn't learned... you need good players to win. You have to recruit those guys, which he sucks at doing. Pitt was 4-4, not some great team, and they were bigger stronger and faster. Guy can't recruit and now it's showing in games

Yep - My #1 beef with Fuente is recruiting, and it's not even close. I have to agree with you here.

Twitter me

This interview was complete bullshit and only confirms everything we've been seeing. The energy of this team starts and ends with him. The guy has no answers. Every answer out of his mouth was a fucking excuse. You notice, not ONCE did he put it on him or his staff to better prepare these kids. Instead, resorted to blaming injuries and Covid along with throwing his players under the bus. Newsflash dipshit, EVERYONE in the country is dealing with those same problems including the team that just whipped your ass up and down the field. You just kind of have to laugh at how quickly he was to back his buddy Cornelson - it's not a ludicrous question...in fact your entire fanbase is curious about that same thing but unfortunately I don't think any of us actually expected a different answer than what he gave. His comment about the RG getting their ass whooped against Miami made my blood boil. Whether it's true or not, you're a piece of shit for putting one of your players on blast in the media.

It's such a shame to see what this guy has done to a once proud program. The kids deserve better and so does this institution.

You notice, not ONCE did he put it on him or his staff to better prepare these kids.

From the interview:

Eventually, you've got to be able to cover and tackle. Like, we've got to do a better job of executing the call, or a better job teaching the call so that those things don't happen. But as far as adjusting coverage and trying to protect various places on the field, that's at the forefront of what we're trying to get accomplished.

Look, I agree that his overly-defensive attitude towards the journalists there was completely inappropriate and unprofessional, but he's not throwing players under the bus. He's not making excuses. He's trying his best to put players in a position to win and he's failing. People are asking why he's failing, and he's doing his best to provide an answer. He's basically saying 'I wasn't able to successfully adjust my coaching strategy to handle COVID' - idk what else people want to hear.

Twitter me

But as far as adjusting coverage and trying to protect various places on the field

This is just a nonsense comment by Fuente. At no point today did we try to adjust coverage. We gave 8-10 yd cushions all day long. If you've watched any Pitt FB in the past 2 years, they subsist on a short passing game. The power running attack has mostly disappeared. Playing soft zone was about the last thing on Earth that made sense today, yet we pressed on with it, content to make Cody Pickett look like a damn Heisman contender.

And as for "teaching the call." You can teach all you want. When the call is a QB Power into a 10 man box when everyone in Stadium knows what's coming, there is no teaching in the world that's gonna make it work.

How about "teaching" your QBs to audible out of shit playcalls that are destined to fail...that might actuallybe useful.

We can agree to disagree. I don't see that as him taking accountability in the slightest. He starts that exact statement by putting it on the players. You can defend the guy all you want by putting words in his mouth but this has been a recurring thing for years with him, COVID or not. This program is on a steep decline and it all points back to him. IMO Covid just put a magnifying glass on how poor of a fit he really is

^^^This. Fuente has been a boorish jerk with the personality of a cold fish since arriving in Blacksburg. You can act like Belechick when you win like him. Otherwise you're just a standoffish guy who runs a closed program and has killed recruiting.

It comes from perspective. I think this whole discussion happened last year (maybe 2 years ago) too when the program isn't doing well you have to fall back on what is in the pipeline or what the coach is saying. We've got nothing in the pipeline and a coach that has given almost no clarity to what is happening with the team currently. He's got nothing going for him at this point and 0 confidence from the fans solely because he hasn't provided any reason to take what he's saying in any different light than negatively.

(add if applicable) /s

at the 10:30 mark hes asked are you cognizant of the fans feelings toward the last 3 losses and the downwards trend and he says "NO" they just dont know what we have been going threw since July.... Newsflash FUente EVERY TEAM has to go through it! It hasnt stopped NotreDame or Bama from being undefeated!

Covid was an issue early on and I know it's still stressful now, but Covid cannot be blamed for abysmal play calling or lack of recruiting. This was going to be a terrible year before Covid. Fuente needs to grow up and accept what everyone else already has.

We'd love to get some insight into what goes on behind the curtain. JGW tweeted something about the fans don't know what they don't know or something too. Geez guys we'd really like to know.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Exactly we might know something if they would shed some light on the program instead of closing it off like it was quarantined 4 years before the pandemic struck.

My issue with saying fans "don't know what we have been going through" as if we also haven't had our lives, our jobs and everything else entirely upended by the pandemic. It's a total cop out excuse in my opinion.

You think things are hard now Justin? Clemson has lost a game, slipped to the bottom of the CFP top four and just had a game cancelled when they really needed it to put an ass whooping on someone to show they should be ranked better than on the edge of the CFP eligibility. Now they really need to lay a down home behind the woodshed total ass whooping on someone to enhance their standing.

You are about to find out what hard really is Justin.

I'm telling you, they hang any less than 70 points on us it'll be a moral victory at this point

I anticipate us pulling an FSU and cancelling because of "covid" to avoid the epic beatdown coming our way

I wouldn't be mad in the slightest. It's sad but there's a part of me actually hoping that scenario happens

considering Clemson's entire OL*, and maybe even more of the team* should be in contact-trace quarantine for 2 weeks from mid-week last week, they'll have only a half-week of practice to prep for us... Clemson should be kind of ripe for an upset. kind of.

They had a symptomatic COVID-positive player in meetings and on the practice field, and on the plane/bus with the rest of the team for several days, and they're trying to play it off like it's just one guy that should have been sitting out against FSU / quarantining.

(aside from the players who have already had COVID in the last few months - don't know how many of them are in that category)

Trevor Lawrence tested positive and was then the only player out for COVID for the BC game. There is zero chance Clemson is taking contact tracing as seriously as other ACC schools (or as they should).

If anyone compares Justin fuente again to Frank beamer in any way, I will be happy to knock the shit out of them. Frank was a man with weaknesses, but he was never a cry baby. This is a bad look. Own up to being bitch slapped as a coaching staff, and being outcoached on a regular basis. Please say goodbye, you are either getting better as a team, or you are getting worse. Getting worse will look pretty bad when bronco out coaches you, and whips this teams ass in 3 weeks.

Would like to award about 100 legs on this one. What a whiny, excuse filled load of crap of a post game presser. Beamer never acted like that.

Herndonrules

Let's ask Jason in Arlington.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." - K

Fuente had a win percentage of 62.2% over his first 4 seasons.

Beamer had a win percentage of 39.5% over his first 4 seasons.

Comparison done. Looking for a fight. Come knock the shit out of me. I need to get some 2020 frustration out of my system.

Too bad Beamer didn't have a bunch of NCAA violations/Scholly reductions to leave for CJF to deal with...then we could compare. LOL. I'd say the opposite occurred. Sorry...can't agree there is a comparison here.

I legitimately can't tell if you're trolling or not. If you're not, this might be the worst take I've ever read here.

Beamer took over a program on probation, with no football tradition to speak of. His roster was depleted as a result of NCAA sanctions and it took several years to turn it around.

CJF took over a program with a multiple-decade winning streak with NFL players on both offense and defense. He should be expected to win more than Beamer did at first.

Beamer took over a program that was losing to WF, Uof R and the likes on a regular basis, and was under NCAA sanctions from the Dooley era. Obviously you never watched this team prior to Frank. If Beamer were to come back and take over for Fuente, it would be about the same. Oh yeah, the same but not with any NCAA sanctions.
Fuente is a shit can dumpster fire that wants sympathy while creating a culture of exclusionism from the fans that love this team. Take his ass out of town, and find someone to right the shit show. I will be sorry that some of his coaches get caught in the crossfire, and I hope they land on their feet in better positions.

There is no comparison. Fuente inherited the pieces and culture to succeed. Fuente failed to build on that, most glaringly after 2017.

And now we're racking-up one inexcusable, embarrassing loss, after another.

Fuente actively chose to create this situation when he decided to run an insular, isolated program and neglect / ignore the fan base. No one has any insight into the football program anymore therefore it can only be judged on wins and losses. Its the Bill Belichick approach to coaching - the problem is when you don't win, no one is going to support you outside of the locker room.

Frank probably got a longer leash but it was because he engaged with the fan base on what was going on with the program and the players - both good and bad. Even today, the fan base is split defending and criticizing parts of CFB's career and decisions. Today, no one is defending Fuente because he hasn't given anyone a reason to sympathize with whatever situations he feels are impacting the team. All we see is 4 hours on Saturday - and those 4 hours are underperforming against expectations.

I didn't even realize this. CJF is complaining that nobody knows what they've been going through but there is a complete lack of access which he created.

Why

This is a good post.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Starting to wonder what is in Coach Fuente's playlist since my summary of this interview is - All in all its just another brick in the wall.

The LewDew, Professional Golf Bum

Justin Fuente is the kind of guy who plays Madden only on Rookie because he thinks the software is broken when it adjusts to his playcalling style at higher levels.

He's the kind of guy who plays Forza and accuses everyone else of cheating because he is still losing despite having the best car with a great tune.
