Other Weekend Games

What game are you most looking forward to this weekend outside the Hokies? Alabama vs Georgia? Clemson dismantling the other Tech? Syracuse having to struggle against Liberty? SMU just barely escaping Tulane today? We already saw #21 Louisiana lose to Coastal Carolina.

Tonight watching BYU struggle against Houston, then subjected to another ridiculously long review for targeting. BYU player get ejected on review for a questionable targeting but the Houston running back who stood up after the play and headbutted the defender gets to stay in the game. Ridiculous double standard between a football play and a choice to retaliate after the whistle.

I think when the dust settles my favorite result unfortunately will be UNC beating Florida State, marking the first time in FSU history they are 0-4 in ACC play.

I'm hoping for an F$U miracle but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

You got it.

If BYU could manage to convert 3rd and 1 this game probably isnt close. They have consistently telegraphed running between the tackles on almost every one tonight, with no variation or play action to keep the Houston defense honest. Houston packing 10 guys at the line almost every play.

Jeff Grimes is their OC...remember him?

So Saban gets to test out of Covid positive test...this is such bullshit

Shame

(None of these would have been allowed by rule, unfortunately)

Rules do not apply to the blue bloods.........

The SEC set protocols that if you have three negative PCR tests, each 24 hours apart, then you could determine the original positive was a false positive assuming the individual had no symptoms. If you have symptoms you don't get to keep testing.

Alabama was already doing daily testing so this was pretty easy for them. Apparently the difference lies in that the ACC didn't set a protocol like this.

Because the ACC was first to implement a policy, the SECs was likely to have fewer blind spots within their protocols.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

And the ACC can't change it now because....?

I am going to go with incompetence. This whole season is a make up the rules as you go affair. The ACC just send to like found things the hard way. The league can be responsible and put in some tolerance for the evolving Covid information.

Whatever. It was one bad year.

Seasonal Brew means High ABV for football season and standard the rest of the year.

Yup, remember Swofford is in charge.

Serious talk, had what happened at VT happened to Clemson or UNC, the policy would have been changed a month ago

King Alum of the House Hokie, the First of His Name, Khal of the Turkey Legs, The rightful Heir to the Big Board, the Unbanned, Breaker of Trolls and Father of Gritty

Is this a case of the test having to be witnessed (if we're talking saliva tests)? If not, I wonder who was giving the sample for him? Apparently false positives happen less than 5% of the time.

Yeah the three tests he has to take to test out of the COVID protocols are RT-PCR nasal swab tests. They are the most sensitive and most accurate.

Even if less than 1% false positives; if you're taking 800 tests a week that's 8 false positives. Just the volume being done alone will most definitely produce some false positives; that's why I'm not sure why acc hasn't adapted a similar test out policy

Because "testing out" of a positive in 72 hours doesn't follow any medical guidance. It's too many tests too quickly to rule it a false positive.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Yep. David Hale had a Twitter thread discussing the merits about it from doctors POV and lab POV. He also mentioned how it's not fair that players that are out due to contract tracing cannot test out of it without ever testing positive, but yet Saban can test out after testing positive.

Miami looks sleepy to start this game. Still dont have faith Pittsburgh can pull the upset, but surprised they look so disinterested after losing last week

Miami has a strong tendency of looking disinterested after a loss the past decade+. I think they lost the game after the Florida state game like 5 years in a row or something at some point.

Yeah I think Miami will won but don't think they'll run away with it. They aren't looking that impressive. A decent team but nothing crazy.

Got some angry Tennessee fans in my family right now. Vols QB has thrown 2 pick sixes and lost a fumble.

ETA: Now the backup QB threw one. It's a comedy of errors.

Ya hate love to see it...

Pitt and Ga Tech both looking like JV teams so far.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

I had a feeling the Clemson-GT had 42-0 written all over it...wasn't too far off. Clemson probably puts up a fg and/or a td to start the 3rd and calls it a day.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Pitt DB got there early and the ref reached for his flag then decided against it. Guess they didn't want to throw the flag on Pitt two throws in a row. 🙄

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Oh, looky there...Pat Narduzzi getting all pissed off and yelling at refs over a clear as day call and then decides to challenge it. What a douche.

Nardouchy as ever.

Looks like Clemson's 3rd team is still much better than Ga Tech.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

Is Syracuse bad? Is liberty decent?

Jack Bauer fears no one. Except Xavier Adibi.

Syracuse really really bad. Liberty better than Syracuse don't think that yardstick gets you to decent.

We're going to find out first-hand in three weeks.

I've never seen a QB with home vs away/neutral splits quite like Bo Nix.

Phil Jurkovec >>> Ian Book

Just my opinion.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Ian Book is probably the best example of a high floor-low ceiling QB option that guarantees you won't win a national championship in the modern game.

If they ever want to take the next step they need to hand the reins to the highest ceiling QB on their roster. If they manage to pull an upset over Clemson with Book though I'll take it.

Watching Notre Dame home games are brutal. Nonstop circle jerk by the NBC crew. I get it, that's what they're paid to do, but damn it gets old.

Also, SEC is topsy turvy in the middle. Tennessee looks like shit. Auburn is getting exposed. Almost looks like the ACC minus Clemson the past 5-6 years.

Posted this in the check in thread by accident

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I can't stand watching Notre Dame games. The announcers make them sound like they're always a top-5 team and they always fail to deliver.

Same goes for watching anyone playing Miami. Announcers can't help but slobber all over the U.

Also, SEC is topsy turvy in the middle. Tennessee looks like shit. Auburn is getting exposed. Almost looks like the ACC minus Clemson the past 5-6 years.

Eh, I can't go there. Those teams have issues at QB, but the difference is Auburn is struggling against South Carolina... a team that has two 5* DL and recruits better than we do every year.

Different kind of talent level than the middle bottom of the ACC like Wake Forest and Syracuse who are closer to G5 rosters than P5 rosters.

Auburn has looked bad in every game. Tennessee was overrated, UF has no defense, UGA doesnt have a great offense, Vandy is Vandy, Arkansas is bad enough to lose to Auburn. Miss st doesnt know how to handle drop 8, A&M struggle with Vandy. Its not a great year for the SEC.

I think you are misunderstanding, those teams only look bad or mediocre because the other teams they are playing are so spectacular.......the SEC teams are so good, its hard to hold any type of negative against a team because its really just that the competition they are playing is next level

However, if any other conference beats each other, it is clearly due to a lack of talent across the league and that conference doesn't belong in the conversation because they could never compete with the big dogs in the Mighty SEC

I'm honestly not sure if this is TIC or serious...like, I think it's TIC but I don't know

It's always darkest before the dawn ~ Thomas Fuller

Definitely TIC

Glad to see these mid-tier SEC teams struggle.

Liberty QB has been shining all season. Willis was a VT target, but only as a linebacker if I remember correctly. Auburn gave him a shot, but he didn't crack the starting lineup... transfers to Liberty and has blown up.

Didn't he have a brother at Tech?

Hoos down 14 to wake.

Plenty of game left but the more they (uva) play the worse they look.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

Been confident all offseason and into this season that UVA is not good and we should beat them without any questions. We should beat both of those teams handily.

Currently rooting like hell for Wake Forest, Louisville, and Mississippi State. The more I watch the ACC though, I do not see anyone on UNC Schedule that gives them an L. Will be tough to get back in the race for 2nd behind Clemson

Methinks the ACC set things up this way - that is to ensure UNC had the easiest path to a matchup with Clemson in the ACCCG.

Is coronavirus over yet?

I am sure it s purely coincidence

Chris Tyree lighting it up again for ND.

Is coronavirus over yet?

I am loving this season. It also shows how completely useless preseason polls are in general, but especially so when the preseason is so weird.

Nobody has any idea who is really that good other than Clemson IMO. Bama and UGA are obviously good teams, but I don't think tonight's result will be all that enlightening between them unless one just blows the doors off the other. The way the SEC has played to this point, I think it's fair to say allm of their ranked teams have flaws. Defensively everyone BUT the Dawgs have looked very suspect. Ole Miss scored at will on Alabama, and currently being shut out by Arkansas before the half.

Is Notre Dame a top 5 team? I would say no based on this game right now.

Yeah UNC offensively killed us. But we shredded their defense too.

I've got no clue how good any Big 10 team other than OSU will actually be.

And living in PAC 12 country, there is so little enthusiasm for the season, I don't know if anyone will actually care even if Oregon or some other team "runs the table"

People said the same things about Clemson and LSU last year, because LSU's defense looked suspect early and then they beat the breaks off Clemson and held Trevor under 50% completion. Wait until Clemson plays a team with comparable talent.

Nobody in the country plays more lopsided games in terms of talent AND coaching each week than Clemson. Bama defense looked suspect against Lane Kiffin? Sure. The last time Clemson faced a Lane Kiffin offense he got the best of Venables with Jake Coker at QB...

I don't recall as much of that chatter about LSU v Clemson last year, because by the time they played it was pretty clear how good LSU was.

Right now, I would say that Georgia's defense looks pretty legit, and I would not be surprised if either they or Alabama ended up beating the Tigers in the Playoff.

But you just said it yourself, those teams are enjoying a significant talent and coaching advantage each week. Isn't that like the definition of what makes a sports team good?

The LSU Clemson chatter wasn't about them playing but about them individually, but I realize that wasn't clear. Last year it was all TLaw is perfect, the defense is so good they just reload, and the talk of LSU (until they beat Bama) was that the defense was too bad to be a contender and that their offense was all flash until they played a great defense.

Clemson is obviously a good team, but every year it's hard to grade them off their ACC showings.

So UVa is playing 3 quarterbacks right now. Cycling in a new guy every play.

Shades of 2016 Auburn vs Clemson... You don't go full Gus tho until Bronco starts running single wing with his fullback taking snaps.

Even the announcers are wondering what the hell Bronco is thinking

To be fair, the mask is covering Bronco's perpetual "who farted" expression.

Everything he does is just gimmick BS. They barely look like a team out on the field. Some players have nameplates, others don't. They play three different quarterbacks with Armstrong out, and they wear 36, 98, and 99. There is another quarterback with the number 60. They have a DB with the number 51. A WR with the number 77. There was that weird bear crawl video that made the rounds last year. What Bryce Perkins did for that program can't be stated enough. They got to their first ever ACC championship. They finally beat us. The jig is up, though.

I guess QB hand cramps are really a thing

Really? I've never heard about that before /s

I'm suspicious. How could an athlete that primarily uses their hands to perform possibly get a cramp in said hands?

I'm sorry but UVa has some of the most awkward sideline antics I've seen. It's like the entire team is made up of the white guy impressions that Dave Chappelle used to do on his show.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

I'm torn. I dislike the Braves from the standpoint of a divisional rivalry. But I dislike the Dodgers because the sense of entitlement their fans have.

And I dislike the Astros cause they are cheaters.

Let's go Rays!

UVA doing UVA things.

Short kick, UVa bobbles it, and Wake gets the turnover.

Otherwise, it would have been a horrible kick.

Edit: Walker is fast if he gets the ball in space.

Double Edit: Wake now up by 14.

Lane Kiffin after the 4th and 5th picks Matt Corral has thrown today have been two of the most defeated coach looks I've seen today. They were only down 5 in spite of all the turnovers before the FIFTH pick.

UPDATE: Corral just threw his sixth pick LOL.

With stats like that, he could start for the Eagles

UVA's QB2 just floated that pass for a nice pick by Wake

He got benched injured last week

benched or hurt?

Not really, couple key defensive plays by FSU and then UNC defense being just as bad against FSU as they were against the Hokies. The TD at the end of the half was a ridiculous sequence from UNC.

I don't know if anyone else was watching two screens, but the Alabama receivers are still aliens despite losing two first rounders from last year.

And their 2nd half defense is the MFn truth.

I hope FSU enjoyed the won, by the looks of things during their post game celebration, they might miss the next two games with a Covid outbreak. Glad they pulled it out. Gives us a little better about, still need a couple of ND loses.

Whatever. It was one bad year.

Seasonal Brew means High ABV for football season and standard the rest of the year.

They better enjoy the win because I think they are still going to lose plenty this year. UNC was sleep walking that first half and spotted them 31 and FSU STILL almost lost. I love that UNC lost but talk about false confidence with a gatorade bath and all that.

They certainly looked vulnerable today. Louisville had them shaking pretty good

Warning- Filter lost.

FSU is going to be hurting for a while, the way their starting QB's shoulder was hanging after the game.

Not that he could really throw it even with a good shoulder though

Through 4 games Wake has 0 interceptions and 1 lost fumble. They are averaging 49 points per games against teams that are not Clemson.

VTs defense had better tighten up fast before next weekend.

or, alternatively, VTs offense better be prepared to put up 50+ next week. We are basically a Big12 team now

It's always darkest before the dawn ~ Thomas Fuller

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

And those teams that aren't named Clemson: NC State (L / 42 points), Campbell (W / 66 pts), and uva (W / 40 pts).

WF only scored 13 against Clemson.

Across all 4 games, they're averaging 40.25 ppg.
Against ACC teams, they're averaging 31 ppg.
Taking out the two outliers (Clemson and Campbell), they're averaging 41 ppg.

By comparison, VT is averaging 42 ppg while allowing 31.25 ppg.

Anybody else notice that Clemson really ran up the score because they were upset that they are the #2 scoring offense behind VT going into yesterday?

RIGHT, and VT is having Hooker run people over while they are up 19 with 2 minutes left. Both teams are all out fighting for top offense.

They are lossing focus on what is really important. TIME OF POSSESSION!!!
