TKP Gamer's Lounge: Autumn Edition

Microsoft Xbox Series X/S
Worldwide launch on November 10
Price: $299 for the S series / $499 for the x; Pre-orders open up on September 22nd at 11AMEST.

Upcoming games: Cyberpunk 2077, WatchDogs Legions, Assassin's Credd Valhalla, Halo Infinite (eventually)

I can see the S option being a hot ticket item, even with it not having the same specs at the X (similar to the current xbox one vs one x situation.) With no big launch titles, it seems Microsoft is really pushing GamePass and low price to get people interested. I don't blame them.

I won't get into details, but these guys sure did.

Sony Playstation 5
Launch on November 12; rest of the world November 19
Price: $399 for the digital edition/ $499 for the standard; Pre-orders were a fucking mess.
Upcoming Games: Final Fantasty XVI, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Hogwarts Legacy (not a console exclusive!!!), Ratchet & Clank, hey listen I don't even like the souls series but this shit looks amazing!, and a handful of other titles that I'm sure I'm forgetting!

Even my wife wants to play this one!

About those pre-orders...
It cannot be stated enough how bad of a blunder that this was from Sony. From retailers going early, to low supply ( scalpers galore right now), and the general lack of information - this was BAD. I'd anticipated getting a ps5 at launch (first console at launch ever), and if I missed out because I thought I had more time..well, I'd be pissed. I did, however, manage to snag one via Target after they went live crazy early. thankyoureddit

So uh, ...there you have it, folks! The next generation of gami...w-wait, Apparently some graphics card came out or something, but I'm sure PC users will tell you all about it. They always do.

There it is folks! The next generation of consoles to invade your living areas for the next 5-7 years has finally arrived! Looking forward to it, or not? Whats on your wish list for these upcoming holidays? Lets discuss down below! Go Hokies

Really pumped for the Hogwarts game. Seems like it's gonna be a lot of fun.

Same!! I can't wait!! ...we're big nerds in this house. Going to be HP characters this year for Halloween. haha

I watched the trailer and then got distracted with trying to figure out how they are going to implement the sorting hat. Hopefully it's not a character stat that the player chooses on start. I'm not a huge HP fan but it looks like a fun game to play. I would love to explore the forest.

I could see it being an option you can choose and having random("sorted") as the default.

i have read nothing about the HP game -- but wouldnt it be neat if it tied into pottermore profiles?

That Hogwarts Legacy is going to make it so darn easy to get the PS5 by the time it comes out because I think my wife might actually play it more than I would. That, and my daughter is quickly getting into the movies as well.

My wife is already pushing for playing time, and that I pre-order another controller. It aint so bad sometimes...

Same. I will get the Series X (too much of a catalogue of paid for digital games to switch now). But over the summer my 8 and 6 year old watched all the Harry Potter movies. Showed the trailer last night and my daughter in particular can't wait. Easy sales pitch to the wife after that.

So uh, ...there you have it, folks! The next generation of gami...w-wait, Apparently some graphics card came out or something, but I'm sure PC users will tell you all about it. They always do.

First of all rude. Secondly, well played.

The 3000 series of NVIDIA graphics cards released. It has been DELICIOUS drama. The cards are super slick, and let you play minecraft for an even higher price point than before. It's even easier to see the pixels in Among Us when your idiot teammate misses your corpse for the fourth time walking past O2. COME ON KEVIN! I'M PINK! HOW CAN YOU MISS A PINK BODY WITH THE SPINE STICKING OUT OF IT?!

Regardless, PC people suck when it comes to releases. Lots of people try to use bots to eat up the entire supply then resell them for a mark up and this was no difference. Near 300% mark ups. This is a (now deleted) twitter post of a user thanking a bot they subscribe to for helping them net a 3080.

Notice how that email has 42 emails in the thread? Yeah. This dude bought nearly 50 3080 before the supply was decimated and will try to triple his money on it. The total supply of 3080s were sold out in 5 minutes and the retailer swears they had bot protection in place...

So the bots win right? WRONG! A now banned user of the PC Gaming Reddit made an anti scalping bot. His bot goes to every major reselling website and is SKYROCKETING the bidding prices of these cards. $2k? Yep. $5k. You bet. $10k, even $20k? Hell yeah brother. He has essentially filibustered the reselling market and is trying to force resellers to put fixed prices instead of receiving maximum profit in an auction format. His bot will never fulfill the orders. Is it illegal? Probably. But it is being absolutely celebrated by people who were jazzed at the relatively low price point for a next gen video card.

I just want the 2070 to go down in price with the 3000s coming out.

I'm still rocking a 1070 and it trucks along just fine. I usually pull 120 FPS on 1080p which is plenty for my slow reactions.

Is there a reason you want an i9 over an i7? I would think that a 10th gen i7 wouldn't bottleneck a 20 series card, for gaming at least, but maybe there's another reason you want an i9. I'm just starting to get in to PC building so I'm trying to learn as much as possible.

It's Time to go to Work

Just for the shiny shiny. I really don't need to upgrade my i7-3770K other than the fact that it's old. The only bottleneck for my current system based on my usage is the GPU.

...but I want new toys.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

And, well, if you get the i9 you might not have to replace your CPU for a decade, since you made your 3770k last 8 years.

Yeah, I was reading about this situation the other day actually, after a friend made me aware. That's absolutely ridiculous.

Just picked up my Super Mario 3D All-Stars preorder. Glad that went smoothly. Can't wait to dive into this evening.

Planning to preorder the Xbox Series X but Sony has me nervous after that disaster.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

I wouldn't be surprised if the retailers blew it and went live early and then Sony decided not to force them to cancel pre-orders. Hopefully the process is smoother for Xbox buyers.

The new COD Alpha was played today....its BO3 without jetpacks and it makes me want to puke. I hated the look of BO3 and love the look of the current MW game. I wish Treyarch was never allowed to make a COD game and just let Infinity ward handle it. (yes, I know IW has their issues)

Cyberpunk specs released today (Team PC) - https://www.tomshardware.com/news/cyberpunk-2077-official-system-requirements-announced

As for the Nvidia 3000 series - the 3080 was released yesterday, and most places sold out in 5 minutes. Newegg had to put out an announcement that 1) their system buckled (after everything was already sold out) due to the traffic, and 2) they logged a higher rate of traffic than any prior black friday.

Been an Xbox guy for years but will probably wait for a few months for both financial and bug work out reasons. Probably target early spring despite my 7 year olds x-mas list...

Is there an existing Discord group of people here that are looking to game together? Not necessarilly PC specific. I don't want to take away participation from here, but it might be easier to find people online at any given time in a Discord server. I'd participate.

I haven't followed it very closely, but how much of the PS5 pre-order debacle was actually Sony's fault? From what I gathered, a rogue retailer went live earlier than planned which then made it a free-for-all for other retailers to go live too. I think Sony completely avoiding talking about the issue is a problem though.

Currently in the process of preordering Star Wars: Squadrons. The X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter loving kid in me from 20+ years ago is happy.

$500 for a PS5, $500 for an Xbox Series X, or $500 for a new GPU.... decisions, decisions......

If you don't have something to put the 500 gpu into then that makes that one a little less worth it. Depending on the type of games you play the monthly payment to Microsoft for the xbox and game pass is a pretty good deal. A PS5 with PSNow if you want to play mostly single player narrative games would be the best bet, especially with that back catalog of games.

I will be upgrading my 1070 after the gpu stock settles and then probably picking up a PS5 next year after the issues at launch are fixed and the system is stable and no major issues.

I have a Ryzen 2700 with 32 GB of RAM, which I'd say is something worth putting the $500 GPU into. Right now it has a 1060, which (while decent) probably won't hold up when I eventually upgrade from my 1200p monitor.

In any case, I mostly meant it as a joke, since I highly doubt I'll be buying the new Xbox this generation unless they backtrack on their promise to bring all first-party games to PC. Mostly just thought it was interesting that all 3 have an MSRP of $500, and I'll probably do something similar to you, grabbing the 3070 once stock evens out a bit and upgrading my primary monitor at the same time, and then grabbing a PS5 eventually, though I might try to hold out for the inevitable pro/slim redesign.

I think the upgrade makes sense. It all depends on what you are interested in terms of platform exclusives - there isn't much for the Xbox that will not also be available on the PC. PS5 is a different story, but outside of Ratchet and Clank i'm not sure what platform exclusives are must-haves right now for me. Maybe God of War...

Will be waiting for the GPU silliness to settle and try and snag a 3070 for the next gen instead of riding with xbox anymore since all I play is destiny and single player rpgs anyway.

This trailer just dropped a little while ago, this is an objectively good lineup of PS4 games coming at launch for the PS5.

Virginia Tech Class of 2013
Mining and Minerals Engineering

Sailing the Eastern Seas....on a ship filled with sand....

Boom, just unlocked the platinum trophy for Ghost of Tsushima! Great game that's in my top 3-5 PS4 games. And with that, I think my PS4 is unofficially retired.

I picked up Hades yesterday after hearing the buzz about it and I'll start playing that tomorrow.

I felt so empty after getting my plat in that game.

Took me a while to get back into playing other games. Lol

not sure how I feel about this one.

Predictions anyone?

You don't spend $7.5 billion to buy a developer and NOT make that entire library exclusive to your own platform.

Its not like Microsoft doesn't have a history of anti-competitive behavior. I could see this leading to an arms race where most/all developers are bought by Sony and Microsoft with every release being an exclusive to either system, except going forward that exclusivity will be permanent.

Late to this but my take:

Exclusivity has replaced innovation in the market. There isn't an innovative reason to get one console over the other, the leaps just aren't worth buying a console over another one.

Games are going to be used as a reason to buy hardware. Exclusivity is a huge market. Microsoft can now exclusively launch games that had well over half a million new players on PSN last month between Doom, Skyrim, and Fallout on the XBox and move hardware units. They can then further monetize the games by doing an exclusive deal with Epic Games like Borderlands 3 did, make more money for a six month period then launch on steam with a definitive edition and make more money.

I hate the model as it exists now because it reduces competition and I always think more competition is better for the consumer.

Software as a Service. That is where pretty much all large tech companies are trying to be. If you can get that recurring monthly payment then you don't have to innovate has quickly because you have that steady income. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft buys another studio next year. They need to be able to offer a big enough library for users to see value in the service. They are padding the vault with these IPs and future planning with the studios.

I don't feel like they will be mostly exclusives in the future, however I feel they plan on the fact that you would have to buy the game individually on other platforms. PS5 games are 70 bucks and that is a couple months of Game Pass with access to more than just that 1 game. I feel they will press this point to sell Game Pass.

I'm not a huge fan of the way most companies are SaaS or on their way there because consumers don't really own anything anymore. If you do then there is planned lifespans for the hardware so you need to buy new hardware. It is just so anti-consumer but people don't seem to care about it.

I'm not against the service model, but I've been playing wow since the late 2000s. My concern is more that Microsoft now controls the overwhelming majority of tier 1 western RPGs. If they decided to move them to exclusive or at least exclusive launches, it would massively imbalance the ecosystem of hardware. You'd likely see Sony make moves and buy up studios to secure IPs and respond.

Microsoft now controls the overwhelming majority of tier 1 western RPGs

Bioware and Gearbox would like a word. Also Larian if you consider the Divinity series to be "tier 1" at this point.

Bioware - Fair argument. I just think they aren't in the same ball park as Obsidian following the flop of Anthem, Mass Effect going on Hiatus, Dragon Age had it's last release 6 years ago and the only other 2010 release of note was Star Wars The Old Republic.

Gearbox - Okay. I consider Borderlands 3 more of a looter shooter but I'll agree on that being tier 1. Borderlands 3 was 10.5 million copies sold as of August 2020. Fallout 4 shipped 12 million copies on launch day.

Larian - DOS2 generated roughly 2.2 million units moved in the first year if I am doing my math right. It was WILDLY successful, but still relatively small compared to the others.

And your point is well made, I was referring to tier 1 as volume moved, not quality. Very shallow on my side, but Microsoft purchased franchises that are routinely selling tens of millions of copies which is nutty.

I think the Baldur's Gate launch will answer if they are among the big boys

I'm super excited to see too. I like nerding out about this stuff. I feel like most of the folks I talk to that are mid to late 30s or older are STOKED about Baldur's Gate. Everyone I know under 30 couldn't care less.

I don't know if it will have the market appeal unless there is a big streaming presence as a marketing campaign.

Outspoken team cake advocate. Hates terrapins. Resident Macho Man Gif Poster. Distant cousin to Dork Magic. Frequently misspells words.

I suppose if you're looking at raw sales figures then Microsoft probably has a majority of premier western RPG franchises at this point, but if you're talking points from Bioware for (a) Mass Effect being on "hiatus", (b) not having made a new Dragon Age game in 6 years, and (c) Anthem being a flop, I seem to remember that it'll be 9 years in November since the last Elder Scrolls, and Fallout 76 was pretty far from being a success.

Bethesda aside from their other channels, doom, dishonored and such have been a bit lacking on releases if you set aside the replugging of skyrim on anything that will run it even a fucking fridge. FO76 was a bad blowout and I dont know the current numbers but cant imagine its doing very well. Its been a while since FO4 and Skyrim so really they need to hit the next one out of the park and what worries me is the talk theyre still using the same old game engine on their current projects which is worrying to me.
One developer I'll be curious to see if anyone approaches to buy could be CD Projekt Red depending on how big of a hit 2077 ends up being they could become a hot commodity.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Oh yeah, how did I leave CDPR off of the list of independent RPG developers?

I just can't see microsoft doing that. The console hardware is sold at a loss, the money is in the games. They'd lose more money by forcing people to abandon playstation (assuming development costs for ps5 aren't ridiculous).

Now doing a destiny like approach where the games content updates are better on Xbox or PC woildnt surprise me. But with that many studios, Microsoft is a game maker 1st, and a hardware vendor to support the game sales.

The console hardware is sold as a loss, but quality exclusives sell consoles, and the more people that buy your consoles, the more games you sell on them.

It's almost like the printers market, except with a bit less of an up-front loss and a bit less of a markup on the profitable portion.

Yes but typically printer ink works in only one brand of printer, they cant just sell games to anyone. I don't know any one that buys a printer because they like the ink.

Basically if game profits > cost of ps5 development (includes licensing) - Xbox console loss then no reason for console exclusives. Microsoft will do the math.

I'd be willing to bet that the Elder Scrolls and a few other mega-hits will continue to be cross-platform, like Minecraft. But, most of the rest will become Xbox/PC exclusives, withheld from Sony systems.

This times 1,000. The acquisition of Zenimax feels like an attempt to bulk their exclusives but I dont see them taking Elder Scrolls and Fallouts and the big hitters to exclusives, Minecraft has been a great example of how it will work just fine.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I think that's a guarantee that these are headed to game pass, but I don't think this means pc/Xbox exclusives. This acquisition puts the company within Microsoft Game Studios which should mean that the Bethesda portfolio will all fall under the game pass subscription. What will be interesting to see is how this tips the scales in terms of console sales after these titles start to be available under the subscription service. This probably means a huge bump is monthly and annual subscriptions, and will probably move a significant percentage more in terms of new Xbox console sales. Make no mistake that this is a revenue generator and gives Microsoft game pass a huge bump in consumer value.

I'll add that you can't swing a dead cat on the internet right now without hitting an article on this topic. After some quick searches there are several launch titles for the series X that belong to Bethesda, so that bumps the day 1 launch value for game pass. Microsoft is also saying that future console releases are going to be treated on a case by case basis.

Yeah part of that 7 billion valuation is based on the popularity of their current titles. I don't think MS tanks that overnight with existing franchises like Elder Scrolls and Fallout. My guess is for these franchises you might see an earlier release date on the Xbox & PC and possibly some sort of exclusive cosmetic DLCs. Anything completely new I would bank on being exclusives.

Starfield *cough cough*

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I think everything becomes xbox exclusive. Microsoft is so big, game sales and console sales are basically meaningless to them. I think they are going to try to create a Netflix for video games. Best way to get subscribers is to keep it only on your platform.

Basically any open world rpg really

so it dawned on me that I am everything that's wrong with gaming. I was really excited about Rebel Galaxy Outlaw two years ago when it was announced. Then they did an exclusive release on Epic about a year ago and I didn't want to deal with that mess so I waited for the steam release, bitching the whole time about having to wait. Well, they came out on steam (and consoles) today and I realize that I don't have time to play that and I'm not gonna spend $30 on a game just to not play for who knows how long til work settles down. So I'm gonna wait for it to go on sale like the asshole that I am and see if I can pick it up for $10 or less.

Keep waiting... only a matter of time before its the free game of the week on Epic

If Epic store exclusivity was the reason for waiting in the first place, I highly doubt that being a freebie on the Epic store will matter in the future.

This is me but with Borderlands 3. Probably would have bought it day one on Steam, didn't want to buy from Epic, and when it released at $30 on Steam I still decided to wait on it and still haven't bought it yet.

Same here. I'm planning on beating each game in order then going back and revisiting each to work towards 100%. I might skip out on 100% Galaxy though since I just played it a few years ago.

I gave my girlfriend the option of which game she wanted to play first. She chose Sunshine, which is probably the least intuitive in terms of controls. Both of us are all about 100%ing games, but it may take awhile with the difficulty she's having getting the controls under her fingers. I jumped back into EVE after a few years because spreadsheets in space is fun? Spreadsheets in space is fun!

I also finally beat Jedi: Fallen Order. It was a lot of fun and I really liked it. I wanted to love it, and I did love the last two hours, but there were definitely some moments where I wanted to put the controller down and not go back. The Switch has been dominating my gaming time with recent purchases Super Mario Bros U Deluxe and Super Mario Maker 2. Honestly SMM2 has a ton of replay value and if I need to unplug for about 20 minutes, trying out a couple new levels does well for that. Also my friends from college and I have been playing Mario Kart every couple weeks or so and it's a good way to catch up with people who are all over the country.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

In my experience, spreadsheets in space are fun for about 3-4 months every couple years. It's been a while for me, though, so maybe I'll pick it back up again soon haha.

That's where I'm at. After a few months, I'm done with it for a few years. I recently picked it up again only because I've been working from home some and I can semi-afk mine on one monitor while I'm working all day. I do have to say that the Triglavian Invasion has been a lot of fun and injected way more life and intrigue into this game than I've seen in a long, long time.

Not entirely related, but I started playing Everspace yesterday after I found it on sale for the Switch and then realized it was a game I had purchased on GoG a while back. Nice blend of X3 and FTL from what I have played so far.

EVE really is one of the GOAT's its daunting as hell at first but once you get used to it its so much fun if you can enjoy the deep realism added to it and the stress of loosing an uninsured ship to some random shit sometimes. Back in school when I had time to kill I binged it so much I had a small mining fleet and a massive freighter for running trade routes. I had a Charon and was good as shit at running routes when I wasnt playing with guilds running the bigger PvE missions. That game takes me back and I wish I had the time to play it like I used to but the need for plex or buying it for isk killed my ability to play it these days.

I don't know the path I took to find it but Mushroom Wars 2 is one of the best games I've ever found. I think there's a PC version and a mobile version its kinda tower defense strategy. Infuriating on hard, multiplayer is fun and playing coop multiplayer is fun too.

It may be 3 years old but who ever has a Switch must pick up Golf Story its a great game with goofy humor and it has good depth and is surprisingly long. I'm having a very good time with it.

I was about to say "it's only 3 years old??" and then I realized that the Switch itself is only 3 years old, which is absolutely bananas.

I managed to find a switch, took me about 6 months. I started with Zelda and my wrist hurts from playing so much.

I am going to get this one for just messing around.

Heres a tip. To find the Hylian shield you have to search the basement of the castle. Next you should pick up Links Awakening if your a total fan of Zelda and enjoyed the old school top down games like "A Link To The Past" as well as the 3d ones.

Breath of the Wild has been awesome! I must be getting old though because I am having to use walk throughs when before I could usually figure it out.

Who else is getting into the cockpit of some starships this weekend in squadrons? the last few hours of work is going to drag by today waiting to get home to play it.

I so badly want to get it, but I still need to finish FFVII remake, which got held up by Paper Mario and then Super Mario 3D All-stars. I miss the days when I had all the time in the world to knock every game on my list out D:

I didn't realize this was coming out, so thanks!. I just got it and am downloading on Steam now.

Let's get a VT squadron going!

My wife made me stop dipping :(

I'll be playing it this weekend mostly on campaign till I feel competent enough to go on multiplayer.

I'm going to pull the trigger on this, but expectations are tempered - some of the reviews I have read are saying all the potential is there for a great game, but its going to need several patches to get there.

Huh I havent tried it yet but will be today after work. So far my friends who are playing love it but we're kind of nuts for star wars so I can be a bit biased on those games. I love the lore and all so much idgaf if its glitchy or not just the music characters and worlds are enough for me.

thats how i think it will be for me... bought on friday but haven't had the time to play

Well I played a bit last night and lets just say I nearly wept for joy the combats fun as crap the flying is difficult to get used to but once you get the hang of it man is it a fun flight sim.
This will be me leaving work the next few weeks to get home to be a space cowboy.

Last night I picked up a used copy of Luigi's Mansion 3 for the Switch. I have not played Luigi's mansion since the gamecube days and it is quite fun and nostalgic. Seem as though there were many upgrades added to the ghost vac from previous installments ok handheld Luigi's mansion games that I missed. Overall about almost 2 hours on and its pretty dencent.

I really enjoyed Luigi's mansion on the switch. I never played the 3DS version, but having finished 3, we didn't miss much. Just the introduction of his pup, which i think is handled well in this game regardless

and more hardware news - AMD isn't sitting idle and announced their 5xxx lineup. For everyone that was talking about upgrading their PC setup to handle Flight Simulator, and hasn't done so, this is another opportunity to do a major upgrade, or sit tight and get a 3xxx series CPU at a discounted price.

Things of note:
1. Easy disassembly and access to the slot for an extra M.2 SSD
2. A giant heat sink and use of liquid metal for the thermal interface
3. The stand can be used for both vertical and horizontal configurations

Love the dedication put towards keeping it running quietly and efficiently.

Also loved that the panels are removable. Customization of those babies is going to be huge.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some black panels come out before too long.

The computer rebuild is coming together...just purchased some more parts.

Added a 1TB M.2 drive to go with my other 3 SSDs and 1 HD (I have too much storage space).
Just bought a new motherboard to fit all these upgrades, and am going from a 3rd generation i7 to a 10th generation i7.

Now I just need the 3070 to come out so I can fail to get one and settle for a 2070super instead.

No such thing as too much storage. I have 3 TBs. That 10th gen i7 should feel reaaaaal nice. Congrats man!

I sure hope so. Going to water cool it as well, of course. I'm going full RGB with this build too, it should look pretty nice.

Though the biggest improvement will be dropping my dinosaur of a GTX 670

Here to echo the "no such thing as too much storage" sentiment. I have a 500 GB SSD in both of my desktops (one for work and one for play). The gaming PC has 3 2TB drives, 2 for storing games (yes, I filled one completely with games so I installed a second and it's already over half full) and the other for everything else (documents, music, movies, etc), and an 8TB backup drive on the network for my user folder on both PCs and the D: drive on the gaming PC.

On second thought, maybe it is possible to have too much storage space....

I could see it as a limited exclusive for the Xbox at release. Microsoft didn't buy Bethesda to not leverage that in some capacity. But they also arn't stupid and I can't see them making it a permanent exclusive. Just cutting off way too much potential revenue long term.

PSA: Black Ops Cold War cross platform open beta starts tomorrow

They upped the level cap for this weekend so you can unlock everything. Also double exp and weapon exp so you get the stuff you want to use faster.

So Squadrons=fun, but definitely eats up my computer.

Just became the Champion in Pokemon Sword and that game has a lot of good quality of life things compared to Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow which are the only ones I have to compare to, but I can definitely understand complaints of the game being too easy. I lost 1 battle and that was the first time I went against Leon because I forgot to set my lineup properly going into the match.

Computer build starts tomorrow- new motherboard, i7-10700K, 32 GB DDR4 3600, 1 TB m.2 drive. Just need that new GPU.

Hey gamers, I need some advice. Recently inherited a chunk of money and want to purchase a gaming laptop for myself. My primary game is War Thunder, but might branch out with a good machine. Need a laptop since I travel a good deal. Looking for brand recommendations, memory, processor, video card, anything else you think I should consider. Budget is $1500. Probably buy on Amazon. Should I wait for Black Friday sales? I have always gamed casually on laptops but want a dedicated machine now to handle the more complex games. Thank you all for your advice.

Do you plan to game heavily while traveling?

Not sure if 2-3 hours each night is heavy gaming, but that is my normal amount of play time in general, whether at home or traveling.

Also, thanks guys for the recommendations, I am looking at those models you showed me.

Here's a $1000 laptop I found when helping a friend search for one. I think it has a really good price to performance ratio.

I bought a Razer Blade and haven't regretted it. It is a good mix of gaming laptop but not very travel friendly (light and sleek). There are older models that are still very good that are below budget or you could sacrifice storage a bit on the new models.

The new xbox streaming app on my phone is awesome. Allows me to play xbox while my wife watches what she wants. I have both playstation and xbox but this definitely solidifies me as an xbox and switch guy for my lifestyle. I encountered slowdown only one or two times for an hour of playing SWBF2 online.

Been itching to try it out but my internet isn't quite the fastest and I'd need a controller for the phone what controller are you using?

I am using a power A MOGA claw since it was the cheapest option and I like it. Fits my big google pixel 3 XL

has it gotten any better? I tried it right up front with Forza Horizon but it was just laggy enough that it made it near impossible to keep the car on the road.

Were you using the xcloud play through gamepass or the screen mirror? I only have tried screen mirror so far but I was very impressed with how it handled online multiplayer.
Edit: as I commented below I have played stadia at my house and it is completely seamless with no lag so I would expect the same from azure.

PlayStation has had Second Screen and Remote Play for awhile now. I use to use it to make sure updates were going through while I was at work.

"I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them" -Lee Corso

Yes, but let's be honest, it's never really worked well for actually playing any games where timing is important. Everything I'm hearing about Microsoft's service is that it's at least functional as long as your network speeds are good enough.

I can't speak to the PS second screen/ remote play vs xbox mirroring but that's cool to know since I have a ps4. Now that I know the new xbox app works well though I also am going to play on gamepass xcloud once beta is over. And since azure cloud infrastructure services are the most powerful in the world this isn't something I'm aware Sony will have. Only AWS or google can touch it. I've played stadia and that was absolutely zero lag so I am expecting the same

I've dove into planet coaster after owning it for like 3 years and not playing it. Really enjoying that. Anyone else play that any?

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Ghost of Tsushima Legends is absolutely incredible and I cannot believe that it's free.

Insomniac did every possible thing right with this one. Bravo.

It's scratches that looter itch perfectly, where games like Destiny/Anthem/etc
took a little while to get their footing.

The drops always feel worth your time, and gameplay fun factor is multiplied exponentially when you're playing with 3 of your friends. I cannot sing this games praises enough.

Anyway, I'm currently getting my ki level up so I can run some higher level shit and get some better gear. I've read that story is the way to go to get higher gear, but I enjoy doing survival mode a lot more.

I tried it out last night and had a lot of fun with it. I've only done a couple story missions but want to try the survival mode sometime soon.

Computer build update:

The radiator for my liquid cooler doesn't fit in my old mid tower (screw holes dont line up/too tight to motherboard and RAM) so I've been without a computer for three days as I wait for a full tower case to arrive. Still waiting for the foolish hope that I can snag a 3070...

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

I would ask if you had a Dremel but the tower has already been ordered.

I didnt really want to front mount my radiator anyway, and the top mount was where the motherboard/RAM issue was. With all the stuff I'm packing into this build going back to a full tower was the right move.
