TKP Gamer's Lounge: Autumn Edition

Microsoft Xbox Series X/S
Worldwide launch on November 10
Price: $299 for the S series / $499 for the x; Pre-orders open up on September 22nd at 11AMEST.

Upcoming games: Cyberpunk 2077, WatchDogs Legions, Assassin's Credd Valhalla, Halo Infinite (eventually)

I can see the S option being a hot ticket item, even with it not having the same specs at the X (similar to the current xbox one vs one x situation.) With no big launch titles, it seems Microsoft is really pushing GamePass and low price to get people interested. I don't blame them.

I won't get into details, but these guys sure did.

Sony Playstation 5
Launch on November 12; rest of the world November 19
Price: $399 for the digital edition/ $499 for the standard; Pre-orders were a fucking mess.
Upcoming Games: Final Fantasty XVI, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Hogwarts Legacy (not a console exclusive!!!), Ratchet & Clank, hey listen I don't even like the souls series but this shit looks amazing!, and a handful of other titles that I'm sure I'm forgetting!

Even my wife wants to play this one!

About those pre-orders...
It cannot be stated enough how bad of a blunder that this was from Sony. From retailers going early, to low supply ( scalpers galore right now), and the general lack of information - this was BAD. I'd anticipated getting a ps5 at launch (first console at launch ever), and if I missed out because I thought I had more time..well, I'd be pissed. I did, however, manage to snag one via Target after they went live crazy early. thankyoureddit

So uh, ...there you have it, folks! The next generation of gami...w-wait, Apparently some graphics card came out or something, but I'm sure PC users will tell you all about it. They always do.

There it is folks! The next generation of consoles to invade your living areas for the next 5-7 years has finally arrived! Looking forward to it, or not? Whats on your wish list for these upcoming holidays? Lets discuss down below! Go Hokies

Really pumped for the Hogwarts game. Seems like it's gonna be a lot of fun.

Same!! I can't wait!! ...we're big nerds in this house. Going to be HP characters this year for Halloween. haha

I watched the trailer and then got distracted with trying to figure out how they are going to implement the sorting hat. Hopefully it's not a character stat that the player chooses on start. I'm not a huge HP fan but it looks like a fun game to play. I would love to explore the forest.

I could see it being an option you can choose and having random("sorted") as the default.

i have read nothing about the HP game -- but wouldnt it be neat if it tied into pottermore profiles?

That Hogwarts Legacy is going to make it so darn easy to get the PS5 by the time it comes out because I think my wife might actually play it more than I would. That, and my daughter is quickly getting into the movies as well.

My wife is already pushing for playing time, and that I pre-order another controller. It aint so bad sometimes...

Same. I will get the Series X (too much of a catalogue of paid for digital games to switch now). But over the summer my 8 and 6 year old watched all the Harry Potter movies. Showed the trailer last night and my daughter in particular can't wait. Easy sales pitch to the wife after that.

So uh, ...there you have it, folks! The next generation of gami...w-wait, Apparently some graphics card came out or something, but I'm sure PC users will tell you all about it. They always do.

First of all rude. Secondly, well played.

The 3000 series of NVIDIA graphics cards released. It has been DELICIOUS drama. The cards are super slick, and let you play minecraft for an even higher price point than before. It's even easier to see the pixels in Among Us when your idiot teammate misses your corpse for the fourth time walking past O2. COME ON KEVIN! I'M PINK! HOW CAN YOU MISS A PINK BODY WITH THE SPINE STICKING OUT OF IT?!

Regardless, PC people suck when it comes to releases. Lots of people try to use bots to eat up the entire supply then resell them for a mark up and this was no difference. Near 300% mark ups. This is a (now deleted) twitter post of a user thanking a bot they subscribe to for helping them net a 3080.

Notice how that email has 42 emails in the thread? Yeah. This dude bought nearly 50 3080 before the supply was decimated and will try to triple his money on it. The total supply of 3080s were sold out in 5 minutes and the retailer swears they had bot protection in place...

So the bots win right? WRONG! A now banned user of the PC Gaming Reddit made an anti scalping bot. His bot goes to every major reselling website and is SKYROCKETING the bidding prices of these cards. $2k? Yep. $5k. You bet. $10k, even $20k? Hell yeah brother. He has essentially filibustered the reselling market and is trying to force resellers to put fixed prices instead of receiving maximum profit in an auction format. His bot will never fulfill the orders. Is it illegal? Probably. But it is being absolutely celebrated by people who were jazzed at the relatively low price point for a next gen video card.

I just want the 2070 to go down in price with the 3000s coming out.

I'm still rocking a 1070 and it trucks along just fine. I usually pull 120 FPS on 1080p which is plenty for my slow reactions.

Is there a reason you want an i9 over an i7? I would think that a 10th gen i7 wouldn't bottleneck a 20 series card, for gaming at least, but maybe there's another reason you want an i9. I'm just starting to get in to PC building so I'm trying to learn as much as possible.

It's Time to go to Work

Just for the shiny shiny. I really don't need to upgrade my i7-3770K other than the fact that it's old. The only bottleneck for my current system based on my usage is the GPU.

...but I want new toys.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

And, well, if you get the i9 you might not have to replace your CPU for a decade, since you made your 3770k last 8 years.

Yeah, I was reading about this situation the other day actually, after a friend made me aware. That's absolutely ridiculous.

Just picked up my Super Mario 3D All-Stars preorder. Glad that went smoothly. Can't wait to dive into this evening.

Planning to preorder the Xbox Series X but Sony has me nervous after that disaster.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

I wouldn't be surprised if the retailers blew it and went live early and then Sony decided not to force them to cancel pre-orders. Hopefully the process is smoother for Xbox buyers.

The new COD Alpha was played today....its BO3 without jetpacks and it makes me want to puke. I hated the look of BO3 and love the look of the current MW game. I wish Treyarch was never allowed to make a COD game and just let Infinity ward handle it. (yes, I know IW has their issues)

Cyberpunk specs released today (Team PC) - https://www.tomshardware.com/news/cyberpunk-2077-official-system-requirements-announced

As for the Nvidia 3000 series - the 3080 was released yesterday, and most places sold out in 5 minutes. Newegg had to put out an announcement that 1) their system buckled (after everything was already sold out) due to the traffic, and 2) they logged a higher rate of traffic than any prior black friday.

Been an Xbox guy for years but will probably wait for a few months for both financial and bug work out reasons. Probably target early spring despite my 7 year olds x-mas list...

Is there an existing Discord group of people here that are looking to game together? Not necessarilly PC specific. I don't want to take away participation from here, but it might be easier to find people online at any given time in a Discord server. I'd participate.

That's a good idea. I'd join it.

I haven't followed it very closely, but how much of the PS5 pre-order debacle was actually Sony's fault? From what I gathered, a rogue retailer went live earlier than planned which then made it a free-for-all for other retailers to go live too. I think Sony completely avoiding talking about the issue is a problem though.

Currently in the process of preordering Star Wars: Squadrons. The X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter loving kid in me from 20+ years ago is happy.

$500 for a PS5, $500 for an Xbox Series X, or $500 for a new GPU.... decisions, decisions......

If you don't have something to put the 500 gpu into then that makes that one a little less worth it. Depending on the type of games you play the monthly payment to Microsoft for the xbox and game pass is a pretty good deal. A PS5 with PSNow if you want to play mostly single player narrative games would be the best bet, especially with that back catalog of games.

I will be upgrading my 1070 after the gpu stock settles and then probably picking up a PS5 next year after the issues at launch are fixed and the system is stable and no major issues.

I have a Ryzen 2700 with 32 GB of RAM, which I'd say is something worth putting the $500 GPU into. Right now it has a 1060, which (while decent) probably won't hold up when I eventually upgrade from my 1200p monitor.

In any case, I mostly meant it as a joke, since I highly doubt I'll be buying the new Xbox this generation unless they backtrack on their promise to bring all first-party games to PC. Mostly just thought it was interesting that all 3 have an MSRP of $500, and I'll probably do something similar to you, grabbing the 3070 once stock evens out a bit and upgrading my primary monitor at the same time, and then grabbing a PS5 eventually, though I might try to hold out for the inevitable pro/slim redesign.

I think the upgrade makes sense. It all depends on what you are interested in terms of platform exclusives - there isn't much for the Xbox that will not also be available on the PC. PS5 is a different story, but outside of Ratchet and Clank i'm not sure what platform exclusives are must-haves right now for me. Maybe God of War...

Will be waiting for the GPU silliness to settle and try and snag a 3070 for the next gen instead of riding with xbox anymore since all I play is destiny and single player rpgs anyway.

This trailer just dropped a little while ago, this is an objectively good lineup of PS4 games coming at launch for the PS5.

Virginia Tech Class of 2013
Mining and Minerals Engineering

Sailing the Eastern Seas....on a ship filled with sand....

Boom, just unlocked the platinum trophy for Ghost of Tsushima! Great game that's in my top 3-5 PS4 games. And with that, I think my PS4 is unofficially retired.

I picked up Hades yesterday after hearing the buzz about it and I'll start playing that tomorrow.

I felt so empty after getting my plat in that game.

Took me a while to get back into playing other games. Lol

not sure how I feel about this one.

Predictions anyone?

You don't spend $7.5 billion to buy a developer and NOT make that entire library exclusive to your own platform.

Its not like Microsoft doesn't have a history of anti-competitive behavior. I could see this leading to an arms race where most/all developers are bought by Sony and Microsoft with every release being an exclusive to either system, except going forward that exclusivity will be permanent.

Late to this but my take:

Exclusivity has replaced innovation in the market. There isn't an innovative reason to get one console over the other, the leaps just aren't worth buying a console over another one.

Games are going to be used as a reason to buy hardware. Exclusivity is a huge market. Microsoft can now exclusively launch games that had well over half a million new players on PSN last month between Doom, Skyrim, and Fallout on the XBox and move hardware units. They can then further monetize the games by doing an exclusive deal with Epic Games like Borderlands 3 did, make more money for a six month period then launch on steam with a definitive edition and make more money.

I hate the model as it exists now because it reduces competition and I always think more competition is better for the consumer.

Software as a Service. That is where pretty much all large tech companies are trying to be. If you can get that recurring monthly payment then you don't have to innovate has quickly because you have that steady income. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft buys another studio next year. They need to be able to offer a big enough library for users to see value in the service. They are padding the vault with these IPs and future planning with the studios.

I don't feel like they will be mostly exclusives in the future, however I feel they plan on the fact that you would have to buy the game individually on other platforms. PS5 games are 70 bucks and that is a couple months of Game Pass with access to more than just that 1 game. I feel they will press this point to sell Game Pass.

I'm not a huge fan of the way most companies are SaaS or on their way there because consumers don't really own anything anymore. If you do then there is planned lifespans for the hardware so you need to buy new hardware. It is just so anti-consumer but people don't seem to care about it.

I'm not against the service model, but I've been playing wow since the late 2000s. My concern is more that Microsoft now controls the overwhelming majority of tier 1 western RPGs. If they decided to move them to exclusive or at least exclusive launches, it would massively imbalance the ecosystem of hardware. You'd likely see Sony make moves and buy up studios to secure IPs and respond.

Microsoft now controls the overwhelming majority of tier 1 western RPGs

Bioware and Gearbox would like a word. Also Larian if you consider the Divinity series to be "tier 1" at this point.

Bioware - Fair argument. I just think they aren't in the same ball park as Obsidian following the flop of Anthem, Mass Effect going on Hiatus, Dragon Age had it's last release 6 years ago and the only other 2010 release of note was Star Wars The Old Republic.

Gearbox - Okay. I consider Borderlands 3 more of a looter shooter but I'll agree on that being tier 1. Borderlands 3 was 10.5 million copies sold as of August 2020. Fallout 4 shipped 12 million copies on launch day.

Larian - DOS2 generated roughly 2.2 million units moved in the first year if I am doing my math right. It was WILDLY successful, but still relatively small compared to the others.

And your point is well made, I was referring to tier 1 as volume moved, not quality. Very shallow on my side, but Microsoft purchased franchises that are routinely selling tens of millions of copies which is nutty.

I think the Baldur's Gate launch will answer if they are among the big boys

I'm super excited to see too. I like nerding out about this stuff. I feel like most of the folks I talk to that are mid to late 30s or older are STOKED about Baldur's Gate. Everyone I know under 30 couldn't care less.

I don't know if it will have the market appeal unless there is a big streaming presence as a marketing campaign.

Outspoken team cake advocate. Hates terrapins. Resident Macho Man Gif Poster. Distant cousin to Dork Magic. Frequently misspells words.

I suppose if you're looking at raw sales figures then Microsoft probably has a majority of premier western RPG franchises at this point, but if you're talking points from Bioware for (a) Mass Effect being on "hiatus", (b) not having made a new Dragon Age game in 6 years, and (c) Anthem being a flop, I seem to remember that it'll be 9 years in November since the last Elder Scrolls, and Fallout 76 was pretty far from being a success.

Bethesda aside from their other channels, doom, dishonored and such have been a bit lacking on releases if you set aside the replugging of skyrim on anything that will run it even a fucking fridge. FO76 was a bad blowout and I dont know the current numbers but cant imagine its doing very well. Its been a while since FO4 and Skyrim so really they need to hit the next one out of the park and what worries me is the talk theyre still using the same old game engine on their current projects which is worrying to me.
One developer I'll be curious to see if anyone approaches to buy could be CD Projekt Red depending on how big of a hit 2077 ends up being they could become a hot commodity.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Oh yeah, how did I leave CDPR off of the list of independent RPG developers?

I just can't see microsoft doing that. The console hardware is sold at a loss, the money is in the games. They'd lose more money by forcing people to abandon playstation (assuming development costs for ps5 aren't ridiculous).

Now doing a destiny like approach where the games content updates are better on Xbox or PC woildnt surprise me. But with that many studios, Microsoft is a game maker 1st, and a hardware vendor to support the game sales.

The console hardware is sold as a loss, but quality exclusives sell consoles, and the more people that buy your consoles, the more games you sell on them.

It's almost like the printers market, except with a bit less of an up-front loss and a bit less of a markup on the profitable portion.

Yes but typically printer ink works in only one brand of printer, they cant just sell games to anyone. I don't know any one that buys a printer because they like the ink.

Basically if game profits > cost of ps5 development (includes licensing) - Xbox console loss then no reason for console exclusives. Microsoft will do the math.

I'd be willing to bet that the Elder Scrolls and a few other mega-hits will continue to be cross-platform, like Minecraft. But, most of the rest will become Xbox/PC exclusives, withheld from Sony systems.

This times 1,000. The acquisition of Zenimax feels like an attempt to bulk their exclusives but I dont see them taking Elder Scrolls and Fallouts and the big hitters to exclusives, Minecraft has been a great example of how it will work just fine.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I think that's a guarantee that these are headed to game pass, but I don't think this means pc/Xbox exclusives. This acquisition puts the company within Microsoft Game Studios which should mean that the Bethesda portfolio will all fall under the game pass subscription. What will be interesting to see is how this tips the scales in terms of console sales after these titles start to be available under the subscription service. This probably means a huge bump is monthly and annual subscriptions, and will probably move a significant percentage more in terms of new Xbox console sales. Make no mistake that this is a revenue generator and gives Microsoft game pass a huge bump in consumer value.

I'll add that you can't swing a dead cat on the internet right now without hitting an article on this topic. After some quick searches there are several launch titles for the series X that belong to Bethesda, so that bumps the day 1 launch value for game pass. Microsoft is also saying that future console releases are going to be treated on a case by case basis.

Yeah part of that 7 billion valuation is based on the popularity of their current titles. I don't think MS tanks that overnight with existing franchises like Elder Scrolls and Fallout. My guess is for these franchises you might see an earlier release date on the Xbox & PC and possibly some sort of exclusive cosmetic DLCs. Anything completely new I would bank on being exclusives.

Starfield *cough cough*

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I think everything becomes xbox exclusive. Microsoft is so big, game sales and console sales are basically meaningless to them. I think they are going to try to create a Netflix for video games. Best way to get subscribers is to keep it only on your platform.

so it dawned on me that I am everything that's wrong with gaming. I was really excited about Rebel Galaxy Outlaw two years ago when it was announced. Then they did an exclusive release on Epic about a year ago and I didn't want to deal with that mess so I waited for the steam release, bitching the whole time about having to wait. Well, they came out on steam (and consoles) today and I realize that I don't have time to play that and I'm not gonna spend $30 on a game just to not play for who knows how long til work settles down. So I'm gonna wait for it to go on sale like the asshole that I am and see if I can pick it up for $10 or less.

Keep waiting... only a matter of time before its the free game of the week on Epic

If Epic store exclusivity was the reason for waiting in the first place, I highly doubt that being a freebie on the Epic store will matter in the future.

This is me but with Borderlands 3. Probably would have bought it day one on Steam, didn't want to buy from Epic, and when it released at $30 on Steam I still decided to wait on it and still haven't bought it yet.

I gave my girlfriend the option of which game she wanted to play first. She chose Sunshine, which is probably the least intuitive in terms of controls. I jumped back into EVE after a few years because spreadsheets in space is fun? Spreadsheets in space is fun!

I also finally beat Jedi: Fallen Order. It was a lot of fun and I really liked it. I wanted to love it, and I did love the last two hours, but there were definitely some moments where I wanted to put the controller down and not go back. The Switch has been dominating my gaming time with recent purchases Super Mario Bros U Deluxe and Super Mario Maker 2. Honestly SMM2 has a ton of replay value and if I need to unplug for about 20 minutes, trying out a couple new levels does well for that. Also my friends from college and I have been playing Mario Kart every couple weeks or so and it's a good way to catch up with people who are all over the country.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

In my experience, spreadsheets in space are fun for about 3-4 months every couple years. It's been a while for me, though, so maybe I'll pick it back up again soon haha.

That's where I'm at. After a few months, I'm done with it for a few years. I recently picked it up again only because I've been working from home some and I can semi-afk mine on one monitor while I'm working all day. I do have to say that the Triglavian Invasion has been a lot of fun and injected way more life and intrigue into this game than I've seen in a long, long time.

Not entirely related, but I started playing Everspace yesterday after I found it on sale for the Switch and then realized it was a game I had purchased on GoG a while back. Nice blend of X3 and FTL from what I have played so far.

EVE really is one of the GOAT's its daunting as hell at first but once you get used to it its so much fun if you can enjoy the deep realism added to it and the stress of loosing an uninsured ship to some random shit sometimes. Back in school when I had time to kill I binged it so much I had a small mining fleet and a massive freighter for running trade routes. I had a Charon and was good as shit at running routes when I wasnt playing with guilds running the bigger PvE missions. That game takes me back and I wish I had the time to play it like I used to but the need for plex or buying it for isk killed my ability to play it these days.

I don't know the path I took to find it but Mushroom Wars 2 is one of the best games I've ever found. I think there's a PC version and a mobile version its kinda tower defense strategy. Infuriating on hard, multiplayer is fun and playing coop multiplayer is fun too.

It may be 3 years old but who ever has a Switch must pick up Golf Story its a great game with goofy humor and it has good depth and is surprisingly long. I'm having a very good time with it.

I was about to say "it's only 3 years old??" and then I realized that the Switch itself is only 3 years old, which is absolutely bananas.

I managed to find a switch, took me about 6 months. I started with Zelda and my wrist hurts from playing so much.

I am going to get this one for just messing around.

Heres a tip. To find the Hylian shield you have to search the basement of the castle. Next you should pick up Links Awakening if your a total fan of Zelda and enjoyed the old school top down games like "A Link To The Past" as well as the 3d ones.

Breath of the Wild has been awesome! I must be getting old though because I am having to use walk throughs when before I could usually figure it out.

Who else is getting into the cockpit of some starships this weekend in squadrons? the last few hours of work is going to drag by today waiting to get home to play it.

I so badly want to get it, but I still need to finish FFVII remake, which got held up by Paper Mario and then Super Mario 3D All-stars. I miss the days when I had all the time in the world to knock every game on my list out D:

I didn't realize this was coming out, so thanks!. I just got it and am downloading on Steam now.

Let's get a VT squadron going!

My wife made me stop dipping :(

I'll be playing it this weekend mostly on campaign till I feel competent enough to go on multiplayer.

I'm going to pull the trigger on this, but expectations are tempered - some of the reviews I have read are saying all the potential is there for a great game, but its going to need several patches to get there.

Huh I havent tried it yet but will be today after work. So far my friends who are playing love it but we're kind of nuts for star wars so I can be a bit biased on those games. I love the lore and all so much idgaf if its glitchy or not just the music characters and worlds are enough for me.

thats how i think it will be for me... bought on friday but haven't had the time to play

Well I played a bit last night and lets just say I nearly wept for joy the combats fun as crap the flying is difficult to get used to but once you get the hang of it man is it a fun flight sim.
This will be me leaving work the next few weeks to get home to be a space cowboy.

Last night I picked up a used copy of Luigi's Mansion 3 for the Switch. I have not played Luigi's mansion since the gamecube days and it is quite fun and nostalgic. Seem as though there were many upgrades added to the ghost vac from previous installments ok handheld Luigi's mansion games that I missed. Overall about almost 2 hours on and its pretty dencent.

I really enjoyed Luigi's mansion on the switch. I never played the 3DS version, but having finished 3, we didn't miss much. Just the introduction of his pup, which i think is handled well in this game regardless

and more hardware news - AMD isn't sitting idle and announced their 5xxx lineup. For everyone that was talking about upgrading their PC setup to handle Flight Simulator, and hasn't done so, this is another opportunity to do a major upgrade, or sit tight and get a 3xxx series CPU at a discounted price.

Things of note:
1. Easy disassembly and access to the slot for an extra M.2 SSD
2. A giant heat sink and use of liquid metal for the thermal interface
3. The stand can be used for both vertical and horizontal configurations

Also loved that the panels are removable. Customization of those babies is going to be huge.

The computer rebuild is coming together...just purchased some more parts.

Added a 1TB M.2 drive to go with my other 3 SSDs and 1 HD (I have too much storage space).
Just bought a new motherboard to fit all these upgrades, and am going from a 3rd generation i7 to a 10th generation i7.

Now I just need the 3070 to come out so I can fail to get one and settle for a 2070super instead.

No such thing as too much storage. I have 3 TBs. That 10th gen i7 should feel reaaaaal nice. Congrats man!

I sure hope so. Going to water cool it as well, of course. I'm going full RGB with this build too, it should look pretty nice.

Here to echo the "no such thing as too much storage" sentiment. I have a 500 GB SSD in both of my desktops (one for work and one for play). The gaming PC has 3 2TB drives, 2 for storing games (yes, I filled one completely with games so I installed a second and it's already over half full) and the other for everything else (documents, music, movies, etc), and an 8TB backup drive on the network for my user folder on both PCs and the D: drive on the gaming PC.

On second thought, maybe it is possible to have too much storage space....

I could see it as a limited exclusive for the Xbox at release. Microsoft didn't buy Bethesda to not leverage that in some capacity. But they also arn't stupid and I can't see them making it a permanent exclusive. Just cutting off way too much potential revenue long term.

So Squadrons=fun, but definitely eats up my computer.

Just became the Champion in Pokemon Sword and that game has a lot of good quality of life things compared to Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow which are the only ones I have to compare to, but I can definitely understand complaints of the game being too easy. I lost 1 battle and that was the first time I went against Leon because I forgot to set my lineup properly going into the match.

Computer build starts tomorrow- new motherboard, i7-10700K, 32 GB DDR4 3600, 1 TB m.2 drive. Just need that new GPU.

Hey gamers, I need some advice. Recently inherited a chunk of money and want to purchase a gaming laptop for myself. My primary game is War Thunder, but might branch out with a good machine. Need a laptop since I travel a good deal. Looking for brand recommendations, memory, processor, video card, anything else you think I should consider. Budget is $1500. Probably buy on Amazon. Should I wait for Black Friday sales? I have always gamed casually on laptops but want a dedicated machine now to handle the more complex games. Thank you all for your advice.

Do you plan to game heavily while traveling?

Not sure if 2-3 hours each night is heavy gaming, but that is my normal amount of play time in general, whether at home or traveling.

Also, thanks guys for the recommendations, I am looking at those models you showed me.

I bought a Razer Blade and haven't regretted it. It is a good mix of gaming laptop but not very travel friendly (light and sleek). There are older models that are still very good that are below budget or you could sacrifice storage a bit on the new models.

The new xbox streaming app on my phone is awesome. Allows me to play xbox while my wife watches what she wants. Were you using the xcloud play through gamepass or the screen mirror? I only have tried screen mirror so far but I was very impressed with how it handled online multiplayer.
Edit: as I commented below I have played stadia at my house and it is completely seamless with no lag so I would expect the same from azure.

PlayStation has had Second Screen and Remote Play for awhile now. I use to use it to make sure updates were going through while I was at work.

Yes, but let's be honest, it's never really worked well for actually playing any games where timing is important. Everything I'm hearing about Microsoft's service is that it's at least functional as long as your network speeds are good enough.

I can't speak to the PS second screen/ remote play vs xbox mirroring but that's cool to know since I have a ps4. Now that I know the new xbox app works well though I also am going to play on gamepass xcloud once beta is over. And since azure cloud infrastructure services are the most powerful in the world this isn't something I'm aware Sony will have. Only AWS or google can touch it. I've played stadia and that was absolutely zero lag so I am expecting the same

It's scratches that looter itch perfectly, where games like Destiny/Anthem/etc
took a little while to get their footing.

The drops always feel worth your time, and gameplay fun factor is multiplied exponentially when you're playing with 3 of your friends. I cannot sing this games praises enough.

Anyway, I'm currently getting my ki level up so I can run some higher level shit and get some better gear. I've read that story is the way to go to get higher gear, but I enjoy doing survival mode a lot more.

I tried it out last night and had a lot of fun with it. I've only done a couple story missions but want to try the survival mode sometime soon.

Computer build update:

The radiator for my liquid cooler doesn't fit in my old mid tower (screw holes dont line up/too tight to motherboard and RAM) so I've been without a computer for three days as I wait for a full tower case to arrive. Still waiting for the foolish hope that I can snag a 3070...

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

I would ask if you had a Dremel but the tower has already been ordered.

I didnt really want to front mount my radiator anyway, and the top mount was where the motherboard/RAM issue was. With all the stuff I'm packing into this build going back to a full tower was the right move.

Just started a replay of Red Dead Redemption 2 over the weekend, this time upscaled on an XBOne on a 4k rather than the OG PS4 that was on a... subpar big screen 1080 display.

Which is 100% how the developers meant for you to play the game and the best way to go about it! Keep going!!

Sounds like its on the Duke Nukem / Half-Life 3 approach

that would imply that Valve and 3D Realms never really wanted to develop those games in the first place, wouldn't it?

While a small disappointment, CDPR has earned full faith and credit with me. Release it when its ready.

Witcher 3 was so damn good, and their support of the game after release was so exceptional, that I'm ok with them saying "Hey guys, still working some things out. Give us a couple weeks."

This is basically my take as well. Take your time, and get it right. I'll be here.

I was hoping to play this on my vacation Thanksgiving week since a beach trip ain't happening this year. Looks like I'll have to find something else to play for that week. I don't care when it comes out as long as it is a good game worth the money I spend on it.

I'm still going to buy it on day one, but I just wish they'd stop with all of the "We promise guys, no more delays!" announcements just to follow it up with another delay.

This was yesterday. Oof for that guy. And I know, I get that the people who send the tweets aren't the same people who are testing the games and making big decisions, but this tweet is going somewhat viral as people laugh at them.

the prequel to BOTW, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, is available as a playable demo in the Nintendo eShop now and the saved game be moved to the full version when it's released on 11/20.

Breath of the Wild prequel gets Nintendo Switch demo

Is this the game with a play style similar to dynasty warriors?

Yes. I believe it is a sequel (?) to Hyrule Warriors, which is essentially a Dynasty Warriors game reskinned into the Zelda universe, and it is also a prequel to Breath of the Wild.

Looking for some advice on Nintendo Switch games for my daughter. She turns 10 next month and has played Mario Kart at a friends house and loves it. Her video game experience has been pretty limited so far (Mario Kart with a friend and playing the first three Mario games on a classic Nintendo).

Anyone have recommendations for other games? I'm looking at getting at least one more for now and Super Mario Brother Deluxe, Luigi's Mansion 3, Super Mario Odyssey, and Sonic Mania all look like good options. Want to see if there are any others I should consider.

Has she ever played any Lego games? My wife loves all the different lego game series on the switch and there are alot. Harry potter world, lord of the rings, pirates of the Caribbean, star wars etc.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Throwing in a vote for Animal Crossing here.

I had a blast with Odyssey. It has a nice infusion of some old school elements (2D parts) and a decent story. Challenging without being over the top difficult.

Is Luigi's Mansion anything like Odyssey in terms of game style? I saw that Paper Mario: Origami King is drastically different, so I don't necessarily think that's one that I would pick up, but I'm debating on what else to snag (or request) this holiday season.

I second Animal Crossing and Lego games. Another one that might be fun to have is Clubhouse Games. It has 51 different tabletop and other games. Has bowling and some other Wii Sports type of games. It's a fun one for all ages.

She into pokemon?

Luigi's Mansion and Super Mario Odyssey were excellent games. She'd love both of those.

Also, if you get the Online subscription, it comes with a bunch of classic games in both an NES and SNES emulator that is provided by Nintendo.

"I have a PLAN. You just need to have a little goddamn faith, Whit. I just need. more. MONEY." - Justin van der Linde

You can't go wrong with Mario Odyssey. I really enjoyed Luigi's Mansion but I didn't feel the need to jump back in after beating the game so it was $60 for a 12-15 hour story. I put in a good 60+ hours in odyssey chasing after moons until I got burnt out. It can be divisive but I really liked Paper Mario.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. She loves Lego's and Harry Potter so I will look into those games as well.

Not much to add based on what you highlighted. If she's a Pokemon fan there are several that i guess are all decent (I'm not a fan, but my kids love it). Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, and Minecraft are good recommendations for games that dont have a point but are good for passing the time. Rocket League is now free. I would also look at Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

I highly recommend Odyssey, it's a phenomenal game that's accessible to just about anyone.

Also, there are a few others that recommended Pokemon in general without giving specific advice. If she has any interest in Pokemon, it may be worth picking one up (and I would have some follow-up questions to help you figure out which one), but unless she's already a fan of the franchise there are better games to be had on the Switch.

If I was a huge fan when the very first Pokรฉmon blue or red was released would I enjoy one now?

I'm talking bookstore Pokรฉmon card battling game boy addicted fan.

On a fundamental level, the gameplay mechanics are largely the same, but they've made incremental changes over the last 20 years and if you jump straight from Red and Blue to Sword and Shield it would feel like a very different game.

Alternatively, if you enjoyed Pokemon Go, they released a spinoff game a few years back called Let's Go, which is a remake of Red and Blue where instead of having encounters triggered randomly as you take steps, you see all of the wild pokemon on the overworld (like Go), and you do not battle them to catch them, instead using using a mechanic very similar to Go where throw timing and accuracy is important.

I'm in serious need of a GPU upgrade. I've got an i5 6600k paired with 16gb of DDR4 and an...AMD 7850. I can't even play previous gen. games let alone the big boys coming out soon. That said, I'm stuck waiting for the 3000 series to become more popular and drop the price of the previous gen of cards.

I'm thinking that a 1660 Ti or Super gets me what I want. Any other recommendations?

I wouldn't say you want the 3xxx series to get any more popular, but I get the point - they are pricey and in low supply. That said, if you are struggling to play any previous gen games then a 1660 of any kind will be a huge boost and easily get you playing current gen titles @1080p resolution. If 1440 or 4k is what you are after then I would hold-out until you can grab a RTX 3080.

I'm not a graphics snob. If I can play the game on high @ 1080p I'll be more than satisfied. I just don't want to break the bank on a card that'll drop in price in 6 months because the new ones came to town. I think the 1660 Super gets me what I need for the next 2-3 years.

My list is Metro Exodus, Far Cry 4 & 5, Halo: MCC, Wolfenstein, Doom, etc.

You'll be in great shape w a 1660, but the price WILL drop in 6 months. It's just a fact of being a pc part - the new stuff comes in and the old stuff goes on liquidation sale. The difference here is that the new cards are not in stock and that's the only reason the last of the 1xxx and 2xxx haven't seen any price reductions.

Need some Switch help and I'll keep it short. We have 2 in the house both linked to the same nintendo account. We have a number of digital games, but only have the ability to play one instance at a time. Would getting the online family plan correct that issue, or do I need to buy another copy of the game in order for both to play at the same time?

It's kind of weird how Nintendo sets up their digital DRM. Specifically, a Nintendo account may have one "primary" Switch, and any number of "secondary" Switches.

Primary Switch:
- Any account on the Switch can play any digital games owned by the primary account holder, whether the Switch is connected to the internet or not.

Secondary Switch:
- Only the account that owns the games can play digital games on that Switch.
- If the primary Switch is connected to the internet, and any account is playing any digital game owned by the account, that account cannot play any of its digital games on the secondary Switch.

The only way to get around those restrictions without buying another copy of the game is to have the primary Switch in airplane mode while playing a game on the secondary Switch. You don't need a Nintendo Online plan of any kind to make that work, but you will need to have an active internet connection on the second Switch.

Only days away from next gen consoles

.. Target hasn't sent out any info yet on pre orders. Sitting with an edd of 17Nov right now.

Not bad, but I'm hoping that changes soon.

Looks like finding them in store is going to be nigh impossible for a while. I'll probably be getting a series x at some point but will have to wait till after the holidays most likely

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Speaking as someone who owns literally every major Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft console ever released, I will almost certainly be skipping the Series X since they are now bringing practically all first-party titles to PC, and most of them to Steam.

I kind of figured Microsoft to anticipate this kind of thing, which is why they are pushing Game Pass so hard. Net in some PC gamers and still maintain your core fanbase.

I would agree but still the consoles will remain the cheapest alternative and as someone who games casually dropping the money on a pc is still not really the best move when I can trade my one s in for 100$ credit and snag a new series x for $400 it's not a bad deal

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Yeah, obviously anyone who doesn't keep their PC up to date and still wants to play Xbox exclusives will probably get the Xbox. But there are certainly a number of people like me that'll just play all their Xbox games on PC, and if I really feel like I need a game subscription of some kind I'll just get PC Game Pass. I'm a bit surprised they're going with this model, but I'm certainly not complaining.

Thats me you're talking about!

I really don't want to spend the money on a computer when a $500 machine will do what I want. Especially when lots of the games dont fit into my lifestyle of playing so little. And hating single player games.

They announced that any PS5s that are physically in stores will have to be purchased online and picked up at the store.

Yeah, looks like most brick and mortar stores are doing that. No camping, no lucking out and finding one on a shelf.

Concerning pre-orders for shipping, though, the going rumor seems to be that they plan to ship on release day. Which... Kinda sucks? Can't lie, but I can wait a few more days...

Every 3 hours starting 12est on walmart.com they will be taking orders for the 5, and scheduling in-store pick up.

You should monitor the ps5 subreddit for the latest as well

I am going to try my luck on walmart.com today but I know the odds are going to be very low. I bet the walmart site crashes on the first round of availability.

May the odds be in your favor

As expected, the traffic made walmart's site very slow. I actually got one in my cart but by the time I tried to verify payment it said Out of Stock.

Don't count Walmart out, I snagged an Xbox Series X pretty painlessly from them on launch day.

Waiting on target to ship my ps5, man...

Come on already...

This whole process has been infuriating today.

None of the retailers can handle the volume of requests they are getting. Not a single one. Every site has crashed a minute before the deadline, and you're basically frozen out of purchasing anything.

Looks like I won't be getting either system until 2021.

All of the stories I've been hearing make me glad I convinced myself to wait on getting a new system.

Walmart's website is garbage. Every time it fails to accept my address 3-4 times, then by the time it accepts it, the console is out of stock.

Its pretty bad that none of the retailers took any precautions to prevent bots from buying up all their stock. If you were able to get through, consider yourself lucky.

Its pretty fucking telling what is going on when each site is effectively DDoS'd right at the time they make everything available for sale, only to immediately see the secondary market on Craigslist and eBay get flooded with consoles at 2x-3x the retail price. If you're SONY or Microsoft, you have to be a little bit pissed off at the likes of Best Buy, Target, and Walmart for how badly this was fucked. I've seen some estimates that upwards of half, if not more, of the available inventory, including presales were sold in bulk to individuals putting them on the secondary markets.

I bought one with a memory card for my daughters for Christmas.

Smash Bros, Mario cart.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

The retailers don't care who buys their product. They just care that they all get sold.

The smartest move for Microsoft and Sony would have been to take preorders through their own stores and filled them in the order they were placed after eliminating any duplicate orders being shipped to the same address.

Honestly -- they should care.

Selling one unit per person gives the store a higher chance that that person will buy something else, possibly an item that actually carries margin. If they sell to a schmuck that just resells at a steep markup, they can be sure that they won't get any upside on the sale.

I'm pretty thankful I was invited to Sony's direct pre-order. Very smooth and orderly process and got my PS5 this evening. Even came with a thank you code!

I think xbox should release purchase rights to Xbox gold members first. That way you know you're getting to the gamers first and avoid the people that buy as many as possible to price gouge the public.

I've got such a backlog of Game Pass games I am happy to wait until the initial wave resides and buy a Series X then. I don't have enough time to play much anyway.

I upgraded to an iPhone 12 and frankly playing some PC titles on there is more than satisfying. Civilization VI on the go is gaming heaven

I will definitely want one by the time comes to dive into Cyberpunk though

Friend of mine has successfully placed orders at 3 different retailers, just in case 2 of them fall through, but he's planning on scalping any extras he actually gets...

You know what to do. I get why but there are a pile of people trying to get the pc parts and consoles that actually want to use them and I'm getting weary of how big of a pain people are making for everyone else trying to do the same thing. Retailers don't care unfortunately and with no in store stock it's making it even more volatile trying to get the new stuff. I've completely quit trying and will just wait till stock catches up after the holidays.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Well one of them fell through already, with any luck the other two will as well.

Ugh. I got the farthest on walmart at 9pm. Got to confirm my payment info and everything, but the site was so slow that the captcha timed out three times making me do it over again. Eventually got to click "Place Order" only to receive a Sold Out message. What a tease.

all of you that are trying to buy a PS5 - welcome to hell that us PC gamers have been experiencing the last 2 months with Nvidia's RTX 3000 series.

FINALLY got an update from Target. My ps5 will be here tomorrow nice and early!!

Its disgusting I absolutely hate scalpers, for shits and giggles I checked the Facebook marketplace for PS5s and there are like 7 in the Richmond area all with 1000$+ price tags. There is a special pace in hell reserved for these dick faces where they are forced to play Atari ET for eternity while spikes are driven into their balls.

Lol I have to admit I did pay a scalper an extra 100$ in February 2017 on ebay for a Switch preorder but that was for a Zelda game we had all been waiting for 6 years to play. Theres no games besides Demons Souls worth a launch day purchase this year. But 400$ for a 299$ Switch preorder was reasonable 1000$ for a PS5 is absolutely fucked!

I agree. A 100 extra dollars ain't bad but when some fuckheads are asking for an extra 400 dollars that's absurd and I hope no one buys them and those people lose all the money

Anybody get Valhalla? I've been enjoying it so far. Haven't put a whole lot of time into it yet but I like it a lot.

And on Monday, the new PC build should be complete...with a EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3070 graphics card.

So who'd you have to fight to the death for that hunk of hardware?

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I super lucked out. EVGA had a queue system where once your spot came up in the queue you had 8 hours to buy one before it was no longer reserved for you. My buddy put in for each 3070 product EVGA had, and they had a rule of one per product per household, so he got one and still had queue spots left over. So he let me have one of them.

According to Microsoft, most future Bethesda games will be available on Sony and/or Nintendo consoles, though they will likely be released first and/or have exclusive content for Xbox platforms.

This lines up with what I would expect, considering that there are established fans of some of these series who will likely never purchase an Xbox console, but it makes sense that Microsoft would try to incentivize purchases on Xbox in some way.

Sounds like they're going to make them also gamepass accessible from launch as well which is a good way to boost the use of that which is already a nice list.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Absolutely. It makes little sense for them to grab Zenimax/Bethesda and continue publishing their games on other systems without using GamePass as an incentive to play them on Xbox.

Or just to get gamepass in general, and play them on your computer

That's pretty much me, once my original 2.5 years of GP Ultimate expire in 2022.

Some what related. I'd like some help with software or app. I would like to take a vid and dub music over it. I need to have a middle portion of the song start with the beginning of the vid which is less than 1 min long. That has been my problem. Any suggestions?

"Hey Bud, you wont have to hold the opponent to 17 points anymore."

What software are you using to edit your video? Assuming something like Hit Film Express (which is free, I think) you should be able to drop your video in on the video track and the music on one of the audio tracks. You can cut the audio where you want it to start and then slide it so that it starts at the beginning of the video.

for anything that simple, I just use Audacity to edit the music and then almost any video editing freeware will let you overlay the mp3 or whatever on a video. I actually still use Windows Movie Maker for simple stuff like that. Don't hate.

Audacity can is pretty powerful and can be a little confusing if you get too much into the weeds, but it's simple enough to trim a track to what you want to use. It's also nice because you can pull an mp3 out of a video file you already have (I've used this for voice overs when the original audio was part of a video). Alternatively, if the video with the music is on youtube, you can use 4k youtube to mp3 to accomplish the same thing

Is Windows Movie Maker even available anymore? I used to use it occasionally until a few years ago when I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10, and I guess I haven't found a need for it since then, but it's probably a good idea to find a replacement for the next time the need arises.

you can still find it and download it. Works just fine on 10.

what drove the decision towards Intel instead of a new Ryzen supporting PCIe-4? I honestly dont know how much of a difference the interface makes for the RTX (which is spec'd at 4.0) but I know for a brand new PCIe4 NVMe drive you could be hitting upwards of 7000Mbps read times.

I just like intel. AMD is definitely putting out a better value for CPUs but oh well.

I tried to get back in to it earlier this year and just couldn't. I wasn't even tracking that today was the release date... My interest and ability to dedicate time to playing peaked with Lich King, and I haven't been able to get the same enjoyment out of the game since then.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is currently $30 at walmart's website. Ordered one and will probably be able to sell it for around $20 when I'm finished with the story.

Steam sale started today and runs through the 1st.

I am super interested in seeing how much I dont want this game. I really want it to do well so that we get a multi-player version, cause I think I'll enjoy that, but I couldn't get through the witcher so I don't the single player is for me.

May I ask what caused you not to finish the Witcher 3?, I presume.

I myself didn't finish it as I was ready to fight the last boss but then there was more to do other than go to fight him and that is where I threw in the towel. I wanted to go beat the boss, I can go run around and enjoy the scenery afterwards. I hope they didn't do that in cyberpunk.

I may not get this on release day and see what people are saying about it. I'm not at hype level overload and I feel like this is just going to be a story driven open world RPG, nothing that completely revolutionizes gaming but hopefully a good game worth my time and money.

Also they have said there is a multiplayer game coming out later but not sure when and it will be a different game.

It had way to much story for me. In the first 4 hours I thinkni had 1 fight. I am also anti cut scene. If I wanted a story I'd read the books.

I grew up on FF, FF6, Chrono trigger, and link to the past as my RPGs. You were almost always doing something. Sitting back and listening to conversations is not a game to me.

They have said multi-player will be a separate game coming out later. But if this doesn't do well then I can see that being canceled. My assumption would bt that multilayer would be like gtaV which I played a ton of with friends. So another game about screwing around a city buying cool cars is what i want. I don't play a lot of single player anymore cause I grew up playing with friends, couch coop or just switching off controllers in single player, I still play video games with friends as its hard to find time to get together.

So I went on a black Friday spree and got Madden Fifa and NHL 21๐Ÿ˜‚

I really like the NHL series. Haven't picked up 21 yet, but I'm sure I will end up spending a lot of time in the "World of Chel" mode once I do. It's pretty simple but keeps me entertained through most of winter every year

I stopped buying sports games when it became clear that they were all focusing more on microtransactions and gambling than the gameplay itself. Has that not extended to the NHL series yet?

I think there's an element of that in the "World of Chel" mode. It's like an online "Be a Pro" where you build your player, play games and mini games, and level them up to unlock new skills and gear. I'm not even sure if you can buy upgraded skills/gear since it's not that hard to get stuff by leveling up and playing, but since that seems to be so popular these days, I'd assume there's some options to do that.

Overall though I still think the games are pretty fun and that's only one of the game modes

I might start up a team on the ps4 in Chel๐Ÿ‘€

Somewhere between the second or third delay, and then me receiving my ps5... my hype kinda died.

I'll pick the game up when it's officially next gen though

Same here, at the moment I'm eating through my backlog and enjoying some Hunter Call of the Wild to pass the time till I pick up a next gen hardware set then I'll grab valhalla and cyberpunk.

So I've been playing it since release but really sparingly until I got stuck in quarantine for a few weeks and once I started doing the missions I'm hooked. I love the subreddit and the games so much fun and the maps are huge. I still havent wandered into the upper half of Layton since I got into Hirsch and SRP I barely hunt there anymore. Still havent gotten a diamond trophy unfortunately came close the other day on a turkey but I'm finally getting the hang of the game. Toughest part is learning how and what distances to animals that they can detect and stuff.

Its a great game. I stick to Layton because I love shooting big white tails. I have 3 diamond white tails. They all scored (their racks) in the 270's, I would shit myself if I ever saw anything close to that in real life.

They had an update months ago about "the great one" that is some super rare , giant white tail, has anyone found him yet?

Also, there was a 10 GB update last week, does anyone know what that was about?

Oh hell yeah I had no idea people played it as well! I love layton but man does SRP make it feel empty as full as SRP is. I'd love to pick your brain on where you like to hunt for the whitetails as they elude me unlike blacktail and bears. I did see a diamond bear last week but he was too far running away so I need to go back once I can get the fawn caller and try to get him.
I see people on reddit posting their great one trophies looks like they are stupid rare but they do exist and theyre flat out massive. The update last week was to fix alot of stuff and the euro rabbits that were glitched out badly. I farmed em for a few days for some fat stacks of cash and to level up my bow skill. Sitting at level 24 now trying to get the best binoculars finally and keep grinding for diamonds.

Honestly just doing the missions and wandering is super relaxing and just hunting whatever I come across is fun.

The Reddit boards have some great suggestions for white tail (and other animal) locations. I found them to be very helpful

I'll check them out, do you know how many you can harvest in a need zone without destroying the need zone for a herd? I love the subreddit for the game it's super helpful finally did some tricky missions on hirsch last night I love the challenging missions to help learn the game.

The turkey I single lunged unfortunately with the 22 but the elk I usualy try a double lung.
I struggle to do that on most stuff honestly with the .243 but the 7mm is a different story. Still on the elk its tricky, I started doing more heart shots on the elk since theyre a bit easier but the long range stuff is still tricky to me. Contemplating what DLC to get next to maybe get a better big animal gun with a bit more power.

Update time. Just got the 30-06 seems nice havent shot anything with it.
After years of playing this game I finally got a diamond and of all the animals it was my second all time red deer. Just wandered into him moving to his rest zone and stalked him for 2 hours before getting him to square up at 200 yards with the 7mm. Never been more stressed in a video game after spooking him an when I scanned him saw the difficulty was legendary and near shit my pants I had never seen that before. He was massive and it was an awesome bit to play.

I've recently gotten sucked into Stardew Valley.

I've been rotating between that, Factorio, and NCAA 14 for the last few months.

I just hit year 2, my second spring.

I don't really have any sort of plan of action yet, been slowly working my down the mines, and some crops here and there.

Any recommendations on where I should aim my focus?

Stardew is one of those games where there's really no wrong way to play. As long as you're making some progress on all 5 facets of the game you should be fine, and most importantly just have fun.

But really, the only thing I'd really recommend other than harvesting some of each crop plus a bunch of something really profitable each season and working on the mines is to be friendly with the villagers and upgrade your farm, because that really opens up some options for you as you progress.

You should aim to ruin the horrible Joja Corp. unless you need seeds on Wednesdays.

But honestly just have fun with it. No pressures and do what you want.

This game has me hating Wednesdays

anyone in here start playing Cyberpunk 2077, yet?

I want to try it out, but I'm also working through picking up RDR2 after a very long layoff after inheriting my BIL's PS4Pro (he's a lucky sumbitch who actually got a Walmart PS5) and I started playing Valhalla a bit, but I was told to hold off on that until I can get my hands on a PS5.

I know 2077 was built for the PS4 and XBOne, but I've also heard that the graphics are pretty crap on them. Anyone with any experience?

"I have a PLAN. You just need to have a little goddamn faith, Whit. I just need. more. MONEY." - Justin van der Linde

I dont own it, but there's a good chance I'll buy it for the PC once the bugs get worked out. The reading i've done for the PS4 looks like those that are complaining about it downloaded early and started playing before the day one patch (set their system clocks ahead). Those videos dont look good at all but I expect that it will get fixed pretty quickly.

My brother in law got it on PS4 and is playing on the Pro. I watched him play some and it's still pretty glitchy at the moment. Some of the textures don't load and some other random stuff like that. Maybe wait a little bit before picking it up so that the necessary patches can be made. Overall it looks like a lot of fun though even with some of those little glitches.

I am going to wait a few weeks while they work on some of the glitches. In the meantime, I am playing Control.

I watched a YouTube video yesterday of base PS4 performance and it looked awful. Driving around the city had really bad texture pop in. Things like guard rails and billboards were appearing out of thin air relatively close to the character - it's not like these were far away objects. edit: missed that you have a Pro. I'm assuming texture pop in will be improved. I'd suggest watching a few clips on YouTube in short segments to avoid any possible spoilers mixed in.

Personally, I am going to play on PC but might wait a bit until things get smoothed out.

I'm waiting till I have newer hardware to give 2077 a go. The fact people are stunned it's buggy obviously forget the witcher games they were bugged at launch as usual. I'll let them patch it up and the right hardware before going to youtube or twitter to rant

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

A friend started on her computer and is enjoying it, but its not as much an RPG as she likes (which means i might like it), but yhe overall thought online is the bugs are way less on PC than on Xbone or ps4.

I'm waiting for series X first and maybe sone patches, so far I'm not in any rush to play it.

More akin to GTA than Witcher I'm assuming, right?

I'm waiting to get Cyberpunk till the first patch.

Nope.... Costco runs are reserved for end of world needs because you can't pay me enough to go there for non essential needs, regardless of the day of the week. Dealing with the other patrons is the worst.

Got Cyberpunk for my PS4 and really haven't had much of an issue running it. Not too glitchy for me. I bought the disk and not the digital copy. I have run into a glitch though where a character from early in the story has started following me around everywhere. He helps me in fights but I also want him gone lol.

just saw that Sony is offering unconditional refunds. Really makes me wonder how much pressure CDPR was under to get this out before it was ready. This is a good example of why studios stagger the releases between console and pc, or the other way around.

Are you playing on the pro or the base 4?

Base. I'm surprised at how well it's running for me. That glitch with the character seems to be something happening to people on PC so it's not just a PS4 thing. Not having many or any problems with textures loading or other things like that. I think it crashed once? But overall I'm able to run it very well. Hoping and expecting that they'll patch some of the issues soon.

That's good!

Enjoy it, because it's recently been snatched off the Playstation store!!

Oh I have been! It's a fun game. Lots to do and the RPG elements of it are pretty sweet overall.
