Lots of distractions tonight- but I am watching along and will try to drop in the occasional nugget.

Longest, worst pregame ever

Hockman starting instead of Leary.

Also, Quincy Roche, prize transfer, just was easily sealed inside on a basic outside zone and Louisville gains a first down on a second and 10.

Person Jr starting at tailback instead of Knight or Houston. Wow

Inspiring first play for the Wolfpack.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Person big run after Bassham does a great job to set the edge, but the entire middle caved out for Wake.

NC State going tempo, and Wake's interior DL is really bad. Knight waits for Bassham to set the edge, and the middle just collapses.

NC State with a lot of intensity. Wake Forest looked very flat outside of Bassham.

Wake also going tempo... TV crew can't keep up. Not good production. Not shockingly, Alim McNeil and Peyton Wilson (two of Bud's favorite recruit targets) look like the adults playing the kids.

Wake more physical inside on drive two. Person got to the edge twice though.

Wake looks freaking awful. Flat as hell, and huge holes up front and the secondary. Simple base quarterback sweep, and Wake couldn't get a hat into the alley.

And credit to the Wolfpack... they are physical at the point of attack with the run and that sets the tone. NC State is still having some challenges with pass pro, but Hockman doesn't have to move much until his receivers find huge holes in Wake's weird zones.

Good drive by Wake by mostly attacking them right up the middle.

It will be interesting to see Brock Hoffman and Alim McNeil go at each other next weekend.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Up the middle, but using counter action- forces OLBs to commit and then kick them out.

I can wait to see if Hoffman's attitude and production will match up. I'm optimistic he is going to be a player and a true leader for us which is a big deal.

Attack... NC... State's.... secondary. And counter block to kick out the edge LBs coming up to collapse off the edge.

Wake's defense....

Zero enthusiasm and confusion in the secondary. If coverage is confused, play man, send pressure, and take your lumps.

They are playing extremely slow and seem like they have absolutely no energy or aggression

Best part of this game is Lilly from AT&T. #oldmancrush

Hell, that shouldn't be limited to just old man crushes. She's beautiful.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

French, I'm looking forward to a few key matchups in the game next week (the aforementioned Hoffman - McNeil if Hoffman is indeed the Center). The other is going to be HH and the revamped WR corps against this NCSU secondary.

I honestly have zero expectations regarding the defense

Is coronavirus over yet?

Not so sure HH is the guy week 1, sounds like he's in contract tracing (has not been confirmed yet) . Would not be shocked if BB is the QB1.

This would be quite the wrinkle in our already two week delayed start.

IDK of you're flipping to the L'ville - Miami game or not, but I think L'ville is going to eat us alive on those sweeps and short out routes with their speed guys. I don't think our LBs are going to be able to go sideline to sideline with them.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Historically that is one of the things that Miami has done well. They usually have those athletic LB'ers that can flow sideline to sideline.

Still learning Sling, so I have stayed on NC State. But, this is losing my interest fast, despite really good QB play from Hartman and Hockman.

Hartman is making some big time throws.

Both offenses have great plans and playing physical. Both Efenses are bad.

Disagree here French. Wake ran 85 plays and passed for only 6.6 yds per play and 3.0 yds per rush. That's pretty stout. Combined with 6 sacks I think State was pretty decent. Only gave up a couple of plays of 20+ yards too.

I think some good throws on some key 3rd Downs and some timely penalties by NC State probably lead to a lot of those 35 points they gave up (Wake had a pick 6).

I think VT has their work cut out for them next weekend.

Wake's biggest boo-boo was trying to throw verticals on key third downs when NC State was clearly playing a ton of quarters. Not a good call (see VT offense vs BC last year.)

NC State couldn't cover any kind of sharp breaking timing route when the Deacon's bad OTs put up any kind of a fight against edge pressure.

Was it quarters or cover 3? I know Gibson like to run cover 3 a lot

He ran a mix of cover 3, quarters, and man last night, all VERY soft. Scheme wise, VT is well suited to move the ball. But, they have to get movement on the nose and get to the second level.

Thanks for the explanation. Question - how do you recognize coverage when you're watching a game live? I have a hard time when it's not the end zone view picking up some of the coverages. Any advice?

Acc network production is so underwhelming. Did you consider Jordan Houston a fit at VT when he was in HS? Just curious

I liked him better than I liked Ricky Slade. But, I wasn't a big fan of either.

I would have loved to get Knight in VT's offense, but I have no idea if VT was ever a player for him.

Sorry- missed that drive. I decided to get over my 10,000 steps for today.

Are they just not calling pass interference on NC State?

There were some *physical* examples of coverage, especially late.

State QB has played well overall, but has limited arm strength. If you can make him throw to the field you will have some opportunities.

State D looks incredibly vulnerable.

This game has been highly entertaining.

I haven't watched this entire game, but N.C. State doesn't look all that impressive. Or am I wrong? I have no idea what to expect from our team, but I'm a little less nervous than I was.

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

They've looked less than intimidating after they put their first 21 on the board. Wake got a couple stops then really started to expose NC State's defense.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Both defenses looked bad. The NC State RB's looked solid. I feel like we will be in good shape if we can contain the run game.

Ol was better in the run game and more physical than I expected. But they aren't exactly running complex stuff. Same blocking structure almost the whole time. Lots of formation, but the same thing a bunch. And I expected Hoffman to keep more on the zones, and he didn't.

That was a heck of a game, probably the best I've watched this season so far (granted there hasn't been much of substance yet).

NC State put up a lot of points and yards especially on the ground, but man I really hope we get this game in Saturday. At this point, our first game is going to be against someone that has already played, and I really think we beat NC State. Gosh darn I just wanna see our team on the field again.

Then again, I feel like we're all gonna be on pins and needles this week. Every time I hear the ESPN notification thingy go off on my phone, I'm just holding my breath that it isn't because we're postponing again.

Really have not watched much this season. Just parts of 3 games. But so many teams/people look so rusty. Thinking that NC State having actually been able to play a real game might give them a big leg up. Hopefully we can take them. Just reading the comments here, it seems like they are certainly beatable if the rust factor can be overcome.

Alright! I'm ready to pretend we're going to play this weekend so I can have something to look forward to!

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.
