Man that list is dwindling down.

Cheers to a good September on the trail and the field.

Let's Go!

Yeah... it's not been fun removing top targets like Poole and Tyleik from that list, but there will be more names that pop up later in the cycle. Maybe fewer than years past, but for the states that are playing fall football right now we will still see some late risers as well.

I would almost think you'd have to take off Pounds, Mugharbil, and Lee at this point unless something drastically changes. I haven't seen anything remotely related to VT for these guys in a quite a while.

Yeah we leave them up until they commit elsewhere. I don't expect any of those guys at this point.

Amazing how this "target" list changes over time and we still get almost none of them. Go back and look at January or February and we haven't even gotten close on the original group despite most being in Virginia or surrounding states.

Hey now, let's just trust the coach's assessments, not some BS rankings site. They're gonna get THEIR GUYS and guys that WANT to be here, not just some flashy 4-star kid.

So any idea on why Hollifield hasn't committed? Is he still weighing options? Feel like so many people think he is a lock, but then he is still hanging out there.

Previously LowBrau.

I think the delay might be a bit more mutual. I think he's waiting to see if he gets a Stanford offer, and we are waiting to see if we can swing Dingle or Ouzts. I don't think there's any major concern here right now.

Hope he doesn't Dingle too long and he's Ouzts of options.

Taking Jared Gibble I believe was also a part of the "If Jack Hollifield doesn't commit to VT" contingency. Ouzts has multiple CBs to Bammer, probably only a matter of time before he commits to them. Not sure about Dingle at all.

if you look at how kentucky is recruiting the state of kentucky, it is safe to say dingle will go there. i can't embed from work, but from kyle tucker on twitter, to paraphrase...kentucky has commits from the #1, 2, 5, 7, 8 players in state for 2021, and got the #3, 4, 5, 9, 10 last year. the only top-5 guys in kentucky that did not go to kentucky ovedr the last 2 years, went to ohio state, clemson, and notre dame.

kentucky is recruiting at a level we can only dream about. yes, kentucky.

Woah woah, some perspective is needed here though... the state of Kentucky isn't necessarily a hotbed of CFB talent though. Looking back, they only have 2 or 3 four-star prospects per cycle. Heck, the #5 rated prospect (0.86) would be ranked 19th in the state of Virginia. And yes, maybe that's taking the recruiting rankings a little too seriously, but no, they're not pulling in a bunch of guys we can only dream about (34th, 25th, and 39th the last three cycles).

I don't think we've felt good about Dingle for about a full year now.

I've never felt good about my Dingle

*Sob*

Nobody is a lock

Not many spots left, maybe 4-5?

I would go get the best 2 DTs you can find and save the rest for decommits later in the winter.

This is pure speculation but i wonder if the staff takes a look at James Gillespie, high 3 star DT out of Manassas and currently committed to ULM. Seeme like a possible flip candidate

Looking at his offer list is weird - a three star (mid/high composite, high 247) with offers from Michigan, Penn State, Pitt, WVU, UVA and a couple other low end P5s signs with... Louisiana-Monroe?

He is their highest signed recruit by a pretty significant margin (.8777 to .8604) too.

You see that a lot this year. Kids want to guarantee themself a spot and then wait and see what happens.

You probably need to take a step back from the ledge. Does our recruiting leave much to be desired? Yes. Should it cause depression and anxiety? No. I'm feeling some of that depression and anxiety coming through your posts. Might be a good time to take a breath.

Get Angry, Bud!

Yeah my number one priority right now would be making sure we get two quality DT's in the boat.

Two quality DTs (I would hope) will help reduce my post game DTs in the future.

So Estime went down in the rankings?

Is coronavirus over yet?

We've crafted interior defensive lines from less, but man is it exhausting to lose recruiting battles, time after time after time. Hopefully this is just TnT being new and gets better because I am not sure if we can pull a rabbit out of the hat for much longer.

With all of the conferences and individual teams not playing in the fall, if the ACC is one of the conferences that can play something remotely close to a full schedule and VT is able to play their games, any idea if this will make us more attractive to recruits going forward? My guess is probably not much, but was just curious. Especially if we do well, say get 7+ wins. Trying to be positive given that we would at least have more air time than Ohio State and USCw given that they are not playing.

Oh wait, maybe ABC and ESPN will give Ohio State more air time even with them not playing any games.

Recovering scientist working in business consulting

It's hard to know how much it will help...certainly the hope would be that it will to some extent.

Although certainly didn't in the T. Williams case...that OSU offer became commitable then...*poof*....gone.

Against the more modest programs...Purdue, Indiana, ect. it may help, but I also think that if we are focusing on improving our Recruiting beating teams like that out isn't really what we should be looking at.

Ultimately, we need to find a way to make VT attractive and a place that Recruits want to be. So that when those offers come in from the Blue Bloods only because they didn't land someone higher up on their board, guys like Tyleik don't bolt. And when we are Recruting against similar schools like NCSU, GT, ect we start winning a better percentage of the battles.

We've seen it done against us, the offensive lineman from Botetourt wound up committing to App State. He didn't verbal there because they have a better football program, he went there because they connected with him in a way VT didn't.

I wish I had a simple answer of how to do this, and, quite honestly, my confidence that Recruiting under the Fuente regime is going to get better going forward is fading quickly. I do know, though, that relying on external factors to negatively affect other schools is probably not going to lead to any long-term boost in our Recruiting.

Edit: grammar iz hard

ABC and ESPN don't have to do anything. Joel Klatt and the FOX crew (B1G Noon Saturday) have firmly planted themselves as shills for the conference. It's a full on anti-SEC Ohio State hype machine. It's easy to cater to their audience of coverage rights they have (B1G and Big12) with that bit.

I can't see how college teams not playing during recruits' senior high school seasons can have much bearing on recruiting - particularly as it concerns blue bloods.

I would think a mediocre/bad season would be worse than no season, yet Texas, ND, USC, Florida, Michigan, aTm, UCLA, Miami and so on have managed to continue recruiting well during mediocre/bad seasons.

I agree, blue bloods will get the cruits. WE need a strong season with some good wins- kick UNCheats ass, beat UL, beat the snot out of UVA boo hoos, and play Clemson strong- don't get run over. If this happens- the cruits will start to look at us again. Beamer played conservative football, but he ran a pro offense- sometimes not so great, but he played tough football that was exciting because he let the D blitz and take chances, and he played beamer ball- which the networks hyped. We need hype , excitement and some tough wins. Our coach is not Mr. Personality, and we need something to bring us some excitement to sell Tech as a destination. Win some big games or play teams tough, and stop getting boat raced by Duke. Things can get better, but we need an identity. It can start this year if we can run the damn ball and push some people around, and this will give Hamilton some leeway to let the dogs out on defense and make some shit happen. I feel like we need some chaos from our D, and things will get better.

I think if Teerlinck can get Reed drafted high (first 3 rounds), and get some accolades for the rest of the DL then that will help us the most with DL recruiting. Once he can fully sell that he can develop players to get into the NFL, not just coach them in the NFL, things should improve (in my mind, which is not that of a 18 year old 5* recruit).

Getting Ashby and Waller some accolades would help too. Having Farley first round would be nice too.

I think hoping for Reed getting drafted before Day 3 is a stretch. Even if he has a great season - like award winningly great - he's still a 7th year player. I don't think there are a lot of teams that would use that high a pick on an older, injury prone prospect. I think there are much better indicators that they could use to sell recruits than that, but I'd like to see how the line plays first.

"he's still a 7th year player. I don't think there are a lot of teams that would use that high a pick on an older, injury prone prospect. "

well when you put it like thay

Tech draft prospects- Darrishaw, Diablo maybe? Obviously Farley, Reed may be a UFA.

I think this view of recruiting completely ignores the elephant in the room.

EDIT: Wanted to include he is a 4 star 90 rated by 247 in house

Gotta love this offer.

All you need is love

We offer some damn good prospects

Lmao

Unsure if this meant he received an offer? 247 still says no offer but I know they don't update that very quickly. Would seem odd if we didn't as he seems to be highly rated

Have we made any official offers for class of 22 yet? I would have to assume he has been offered and if not, then why the fuck not?

I don't know what constitutes official offers but I know there have been many '22 kids who have reported an offer from VT on twitter

Haha. We can't "officially" offer yet wait about 11 months. Everything will be a verbal until then.

Recruiting Spending Analysis

LOLUVA & Loserville at almost $200K more than us is troubling.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Louisville brings in a lot more money and has a bigger overall sports and football budget than Tech does.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Join us in the Key Players Club

Right... I guess I mean troubling in that we weren't able to capitalize on our success over the last two decades and now more and more schools in our region will continue to ramp up spending - including schools that don't have the tradition VT has (which I know is only 25 years old).

I also know lots of things can change this year...

Is coronavirus over yet?

The fact that Tech was unable to leverage the 10+ win seasons, ACC championships and BCS bowls into more giving is the most frustrating part to me. Even though I don't get season tickets, I've increased my HC donations yearly to help do my part where I can. Until something changes to make it possible to climb the list, we'll have to have another magical season like 99 to meet some folks' unrealistic expectations. And even that wasn't enough to kickstart us to sustain success.

All I can say is...

Start Jumping!

Seriously, we have a lot of things in place. We need some results on the field, and I do believe our donations will increase. We've already come a long way in the last 25 years.

some folks' unrealistic expectations

I don't think many people's expectations are that unreasonable; Most people want to being a top 25 team year in, year out. No reason that's not possible.

Twitter me

The unrealistic expectation was that it was going to be like throwing a light switch to get that back, or that we wouldn't have to turnover any staff, or that it would be seamless.

We all hoped for that, but to expect it was unrealistic.

Seems to me that on paper, we aren't all that far from that right now. We just need to see it in the results.

Without ponying up the money for the resources necessary to do this. Quite the trick.

Twitter me

Analyzing recruiting spend in a vacuum isn't a great idea. It's heavily impacted by proximity to talent, proximity to competition, and size of class. Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying recruiting spend doesn't matter, or we shouldn't aim to spend more on recruiting - but just recognize that $1M goes a lot farther at Clemson or Florida than it does at Nebraska or Kansas.

Twitter me

If you seriously think that spending #40 on that list in Blacksburg is going to get us to constant Coastal and ACC championships, you would be the description of unrealistic expectations.

This isn't analyzing recruiting spending in a vacuum. The east end of I-64 is nowhere near as talent rich now as it was when Tech was able to get a lion's share of the top talent in VA. Now there is more talent in NOVA, but the traditional ties to the state in that region don't exist there like they did in 757. There are still some, but these kids don't have "roots" in VA and the top rated ones can go just about anywhere they want.

Can you honestly say that we could check off any on this list?

After analyzing annual million-dollar investments into recruiting, recent win totals and historical AP polls, we're left with a recipe that tells us the surest way to land an elite recruiting class is to:

1.) invest at least $750,000 annually (but more likely at least $1.2 million) in recruiting,
2.) field a football team that has recently experienced high-level success, and
3.) be able to boast about your program's proven winning culture.

Based on the spending numbers, we don't do #1.

Since Tyrod and DW left, we've struggled mightily on the field with the exception of 2016. So that knocks out #2.

The "hallowed" team from 1999 was 25 years ago. None of the kids we recruit were alive then. Going off comments and handles on here, I would venture to say that the majority of posters on here were not students or alumni of Tech when that season happened. We were able to leverage 2016 and 2017 somewhat, but turmoil and uncertainty has quashed that recent success. In reality, our winning culture has been gone for almost 10 years, so take #3 off the list.

The fact that Fuente and crew have done as well as they have to get the number of 4* rated players they have is amazing to me. So it doesn't surprise me when our top targets end up going to OSU, PSU, Bama, Clemson, etc. We're not a blue blood nor are we "new money" like Clemson or UNC.

I have no delusions about where we're at. We are exactly who we thought we are. A combination of older alumni who have carried this program on our shoulders and are happy when we succeed because we remember what it was like before we had a decade plus of success, and a bunch of younger people who only remember the good times and don't know how to deal with the ebbs and flows that happen to all football programs. I look at history and can guess that even if we were to have success on the field, the folks who would be asked to build on that will just question why they should give more money if we're succeeding with the current level of giving. Then once things settle back to the norm, they'll bitch and complain about not getting top talent anymore, how the coaching staff sucks at coaching and recruiting, and talk about how we were good when. Lather, rinse, repeat.

If you seriously think that spending #40 on that list in Blacksburg is going to get us to constant Coastal and ACC championships, you would be the description of unrealistic expectations.

I did not say anything remotely close to this.

Twitter me

DT prospect for us to replace Devin Lee who is now out of the picture for us, would be a good get but not sure how high up his list we truly are seems like he's wanted to go somewhere in the SEC all along. I would love to still land Robert Jackson, should know more about that soon too

Definitely not Poole.

No, one that ship has sailed unfortunately

edit: I guess if NC State has a really bad season, there's a possibility. But honestly, looking at their roster and their returning players, if they get competent QB play, they should be .500 at worse, which I don't think would move the needle for Poole.

Are they about to get processed from their preferred school? Any hint on which side of the ball? I know that recruiting is finnicky, so definitely don't want you to put anything that might hurt you or cause too much of a storm. Just curious more than anything.

Hope it's a CB or a DT! Would also be OK with a 4* receiver.

Felt good about our CB's this year until the departure of Farley (thanks captain obvious)...but if you look at our CB room now, there are a lot of unknowns for both this year and the immediate future. We have guys that I am hopeful can step up, but it would be great to get another borderline "lock" to team up DJ Harvey (who I think we are all hopeful is a lock to at the very least be a good P5 CB).

I personally prefer the shoulder stripes, but I could easily live with those. Simple and clean without the mish-mash of colors, stripe widths, fonts, etc.

Not getting anyone's hopes up but it's between VT and Oregon with Oregon probably leading.

Yeah not getting my hopes up here, but it's interesting if he dropped NC state from consideration. From afar it seems like Alim has been quite good there so far.

Once they got Poole and Fordham I got the impression they were trying to sell him on DE and the Bradley Chubb route.

Yeah he's def got the size for DE so that makes sense. It also makes Oregon, where he would likely be an edge rusher OLB in their 3-4, a much more appealing option if he wants to remain a primarily stand up edge player.

Would be a great pickup. I'm assuming that our only remote chance of landing him is if he/his family wants him to stay closer to home than Oregon.

Don't mean to sound like a dick and I feel for the people there, but Oregon is literally on fire right now...so there's that. Can't hurt our chances.

As someone who lived in CA until 2 weeks ago, I was thinking the same thing...

lived in CA until 2 weeks ago

Can you elaborate on why the change? If not, no big deal.

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

Moved to CA from Cincinnati after meeting my gf - now my wife thanks to a Microsoft Teams/Zoom call wedding w/ San Fran Courthouse/family - for a work promotion for her. She changed companies to Salesforce and is now being promoted again for a project in London. We were both working from home in a 600-700 sqft apartment since Covid hit, and as you can imagine, even in a rent controlled apartment, it was still expensive. It also was not making for a good working environment us both being home and her having meetings on London hours.

So, we're in OBX now in a 4 bedroom and 1 office home with plenty of space between us so she's not waking me up at crazy (less crazy now) hours! Plans are to save some money and ride out the Covid thing and eventually move back to the Bay Area when hopefully we can afford a house - given that it's no all burnt down by then!

We're both able to work from home and I didn't have to change companies from where I was working in SF, so we are quite lucky and thankful.

Glad to hear y'all are doing well through all this craziness, and hopefully your plans to move back someday work out!

SF to OBX move. Very nice!

Thanks all for the kind sentiments!

I'm in Duck, and I'm actually in my family's vacation home...for now anyway...so I'm doubly lucky in that I have no rent at the moment. However, we're planning on "paying rent" by buying a new mattress or two and I might put in a mesh network for them since the one router here workssssssss......but not as well as I would like. :)

I'm flying back to SF for a month at the end of September when the wife goes to London for a spell. I'm gonna take a drive across the country (my car is still at a friend's in the Bay Area) with this as the not-finalized plan:

SF -> Bandon Dunes for a round or two
-> Chamber's Bay (maybe)
-> Glacier National Park
-> Yellowstone
-> Grand Tetons
-> Badlands
-> Milwaukee to see some friends that recently left SF for a doctor fellowship match there
-> Cincinnati (home)
-> Pinehurst to see my brother and golf
-> back to OBX

When I went to SF from Cincinnati, I did a southern route and hit Sedona, Zion, Bryce, etc.

*Edit: grammar because I was on a work call while writing this...

Very cool, sounds like a killer trip across the country!

If it's ever safe to open bars again, we'll have o get a beer sometime!

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Careful with Glacier-only the west side of the park was open this year due to COVID and in most years nearly all the services in the park close on Labor Day...it's a long way from anywhere so do some research before you head out there. Have a great trip, I might do a week in the Tetons in mid-October myself.

I've heard about Glacier being hard to do, especially this year, so that one might get removed -- thanks for the heads up!

Given all the fires in CA, OR, and WA, I could end up doing something completely different and either heading directly east or going the southern route once again (I would hike Angel's Landing in Zion again in a heartbeat). Really feel for all those people losing their homes and livelihoods - hoping for favorable weather as soon as possible.

Smart plan...you might want to check out hike734.com. It's a hiking guide to some of the most iconic national parks of the west (the name stems from them hiking all 734 within glacier) but they cover most trails in Glacier, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Teton, Olympic and Zion.

Additionally, if you want to get away from crowds you could do worse than go to Capitol Reef. I plan on dropping into the southern part of that park on my way back from Wyoming, there are some epic narrows hikes there without the crowds of Zion.

Heading to Glacier tomorrow and very nervous that the air quality is going to make most things impossible. I've been monitoring the live webcams from the park system and you can definitely tell there's smoke in the air.

On a positive note, one of my good friends just spend a few days in Zion and loved it. So you wouldn't be making a mistake visiting there.

Good luck and glad you got out of that. This is the same sort of reason why we bought a new house. Wife, daughter, and I were all working or doing school work from home in the 1025 or 1050 sq ft starter house I bought. Put the offer in before I met my wife and closed on it the morning after our first date. If I had known what was going to happen and how fast it would happen (we were engaged ~1.5 months after meeting) I would not have bought this tiny place. Still in it ~15 years later as we never got around to moving or expanding. Too many months with (1) wife working in her office, (2) me working on the kitchen table and (3) daughter working in the our bedroom as it has more room than hers made my wife insist we find a place. Moving in about 3 weeks to a house more than 2x as big about 3 miles away.

And oh the irony. Wife got furloughed so not working. Daughter is back in school in-person full time (at least for now) at the small Catholic school in southern NJ. And my office is open, although I still probably work from home 3-4 days a week.

Not that we expected a commit, but he's headed to Oregon.

Yeah, think this has been coming for a while now. He looks like a great back but I feel good about Kenji and he should have time to redshirt and get stronger once he gets in considering the depth in front of him

I think one of the most interesting things on the horizon for college football that I haven't seen discussed in depth is the fact that athletes are not losing a year of eligibility this fall and how that will impact the total scholarship allotment (and ultimately the number of incoming recruits). Will the NCAA allow teams to fund 110 football scholarships (85 as normally allotted + 25 for a recruiting class)? Obviously some teams will have players with more remaining eligibility than others so how do they handle drawing back down to 85 from any increased number?

Furthermore, the loss of revenue is already putting a massive strain on athletic departments, which would be further compounded by schools trying to fund an additional 25 scholarships or facing a significant competitive disadvantage. It seems clear that schools with the deepest pockets will find a way to leverage this to their advantage and come out of this even further ahead.

I know better than to expect any clarity at this point given how almost everything has been handled in a reactionary way rather than planning ahead, but I think the writing is on the wall for this to have an enormous impact on college football beyond this season. It will essentially draw the line between schools with a realistic shot to win a national title and everyone else for the next decade.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

They said when this was officially announced that this year's seniors won't count against the scholarship limit next year but will be eligible. So the limit will stay the same but anyone who normally wouldn't have been on the team next year is just exempt from the limit.

You're right the policy was clarified more than I realized so we do have the answers to a lot of those questions. I still believe there will be longer lasting repercussions from no athletes losing a year of eligibility this season, as every athlete in school now has 6 years to use their eligibility. Next year could be very interesting with seniors being allowed to stay and expanded roster limits (wonder if or how that might work with grad transfers?). Then how will teams balance returning to normal roster and scholarship limits with all their current underclassman scholarship players retaining an extra year of eligibility and trying to add high school recruits? There is going to be an excess of scholarship athletes for years to come and the portal is going to be more active than ever. If we can't get the recruits then I hope we can exploit the portal.

On the positive side of things which is pretty slim right now, it does look like we should get some good news pretty soon, and the possible flip I referred to still has some legs

Go for it

Very cool

I hear a DB scholly might've opened up today (insert laughing then crying gif here)

Let the good times roll baby. Time to snag some recruits.

Evan Watkins just flipped a CB from VT to Liberty for Kylen Austen

Can't imagine we had much space left for another WR when we have two on board and a couple more guys who project as pass catchers in Black and Lofton.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I'd wager that this has more to do with us being full than losing a battle to Liberty.

We have Tray Curry, Jaylen Jones, and Da'wain Lofton already committed as receivers, with Chance Black often mentioned as a hybrid RB/WR role.

Yea, kid just got recruited over unfortunately for him. Best of luck to him wherever he lands.

DJ Matthews just entered the transfer portal from FSU. I know Tech was pushing hard in '17 for his commitment out of Jacksonville.

Just saw that too. Would love if we pursued, especially considering the need at WR. He is a grad transfer and would have immediate eligibility. I wonder with this year being so weird and VT starting play later if we could bring him onboard now.

If only there weren't these pesky academic requirements, admissions and stuff.

I thought there was some serious smoke about him transferring to VT.

Might be a stretch at this point obvi, but would definitely welcome him onboard, this year or next.

Vroom Vroom

The emojies are covering up the actual information you posted

Came here to see if there was news about the new (potential) commit, but nope. Just some guys talking about hiking.

It happens๐Ÿ˜‚

YEAH HERE WE GO

And now there are just as many comments complaining or defending comments on hiking

"If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?"

So keeping discipline and not getting into hiking would have been twice as helpful.

This is nuts. No campus or high school visits either direction. Kids can't come to games etc.

Transfer market is going to absolutely explode in a couple of years.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

After next season when you've got scholarship limits dropping back to 85, a freshman class recruited and signed without on or off campus in-person visits, and teams making room to sign class of 2022 recruits... it's going to be complete chaos.

So you're saying lots of players are going to

take a hike?

We did take a smaller class last year, so that helps.

Attrition is coming.

I would not be shocked to see the NCAA drop the number of recruits drop from 25 to possibly 15 -17 for a year or two, in an attempt to make the 85 number a bit easier to maintain. I'm sure HC's would hate it but it's something that would actually benefit a program like V The "Blue Bloods" won't be able to stockpile players that may not play for 2-3 years, or ever. T. This 2021 class of "commits" will see the largest number of decommits of any recruiting year in quite some time. Kids who committed W/O visiting campus will begin a small but steady exodus of commits deciding to decommit and visit 3-4 schools on their own dime. Can't blame them either.

That's the worst possible thing for the student athlete though. There's ~130 FBS teams. If you cut 10 scholarships per year, that's over 1000 kids unable to get a scholarship. I think there's other approaches that wouldn't harm the student athlete as much:

  • Just leave the rules as is. Some kids will graduate and move on, some kids will be forced to move on, some schools will just have to take less recruits. Rather than screwing over an entire class, the burden is shared between all classes.
  • Increase the maximum scholarships on a roster to 95 in 2021, then 90 in 2020, then back to 85 in 2021. I don't know the exact numbers, and I'm sure there would be title XI impact, but something to this effect.

Twitter me

That definitely isn't going to stop the NCAA.

If you cut 10 scholarships per year, that's over 1000 kids unable to get a scholarship.

After looking into it, the scholarship limits will only be expanded for current seniors for the 2021 season (not sure if this will be determined based on actual year of eligibility or progress in coursework or what). After that season with that single exception, it's back to the 85 scholarship limit. Now I don't know if the NCAA will reduce recruiting classes or not but, as I noted above, this expansion of eligibility will results in a big crunch of scholarships when the limit returns to 85 and there is no way around. I suppose it will work out like described in your first bullet where coaches will have different approaches and individually determine if they want to use the scholarships to continue to invest in certain players already on the roster or move on to new recruits, but there absolutely is not going to be as many scholarships to go around.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

That's for official visits only. Kids and parents are still free to tour campus on their own dime. I think we'll now see a lot more of this with the dead period extended.

Josey Wales

Correct. But they can't meet with coaches, gets tours, go to games (unless they buy their own ticket for small number of schools with games).

So maybe we have a chance with all those kids who grew up VT fans now? /s

For anyone keeping score at home on European talent - Danijel Miletic just got big bumps in both his composite and Top247 ratings. Went from a 2* Top247 score of 77 overall to a low/mid 3* at 83.

Still not the 5* Coach Paul Alexander called him, but getting closer to it.

Despite a couple other small composite changes, the overall class rank jumped up a bit, while our Top247 class ranking dropped from 28 to 30.

Dumb question - what's the Top247 ranking? How does it differ from our composite ranking or 247 in house rankings?

Twitter me

It's just the official name on the tab for 247's in house ranking system. I added it for clarity otherwise one of those sentences would look like a mostly jumbled mess of numbers strung together.

The Top247 is their list of the top 250 (why not stop at 247 for the #branding?) players, much like the Rivals100 or Rivals250.

Interesting placement of VT on there. Also pretty good company to be in.

Reading into the significance of the placement of logos on recruits' photoshops is the new reading into the significance of the placement of hats on the commitment press conference table.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Yep, doesn't mean anything till they're 800% committed

Oh, I wasn't reading much of anything into it. I just thought it was interesting. I wondered if he grouped schools by conference, nope, not alphabetical clearly. I know WAY better than to think it has anything to do with his preference. It could just be a nod to being local. It could be purely random. I get that a lot of people try to read into it, so reasonable to think I would be too. Some things I just find "interesting" without any further implications. This is one of those things.

It would be really nice to have a few nice things.

If you haven't yet, take a glance through the 2022 Virginia class. Not sure how we stand with any of them, but from the ratings perspective, this is another nice class...hopefully we can do a little better than how we're faring, so far, in 2021.

wow. That definitely looks like a list of powerhouses...and his childhood favorite (and UNCheat, not sure how they got past the bouncer). I'm calling it now: we are one of three hats on the table come decision day, but not the one to get picked up.
