2020 Preseason All-ACC Team Announced

Ashby got the nod at linebacker. I think we could have counted on Farley being a 1st team corner. By the numbers Waller had a shot but doesn't have the hype around him Farley does.

Waller should have made 1st team statistically over both Samuel and Kendrick, but they have solid preseason hype cases. Kendrick has the highest ceiling in a Farley-less ACC and he will be Clemson's CB1.

Much deserved for Ashby, who also made a preaseason All-America team for Athlon's third team.

We were 63rd in passing yards allowed last year with Farley and Waller out there. Shows you how bad our pass rush was.

And/or the safeties in coverage

And/or the linebackers in coverage. Also tackling near LOS. You know... plays that are big chunk passing plays on dumpoffs but all the YAC

Surprised the O line got snubbed. I think the Hokies will end the season with at least one.

Pre-season don't mean shit. I'm hyped for the post-season list

Fire guy

Post-season definitely has more substantiated evidence, but it's a nice (but probably not enormous) benefit to have announcers mentioning your players as preseason All-conf/AA x player all year long for recruiting purposes. Same with being able to post all your graphics of your players for recruits to see on social media bout their inclusions on these teams.

If I hear the name Boogie one time this season I'm going to puke🤮

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

Where were we predicted to finish in the ACC the last time there were no divisions (2004)?

I assume 3rd after FSU and Miami.

I'm thinking it was lower than that. Seems like it was fourth or fifth. Could be wrong about that.

Pretty far down the ladder if I recall. We were coming off of a bad 2003 and weren't expected to compete in a bigger conference.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

1. Florida State (49) 925
2. Miami (36) 913
3. Virginia (2) 697
4. Clemson (1) 664
5. Maryland 653
6. Virginia Tech 511
7. NC State 509
8. Georgia Tech 365
9. Wake Forest 273
10. North Carolina 184
11. Duke 114

Thanks! I knew it was not high. Out of curiosity, where did you find the info?

You don't want to know .... It was on lesabre

Wow, actual info was on there? How long did you have to shower to get the slime off?

I bought a new phone for good measure.

Hendon Hooker will be Player of the Year over Goldi Locks

Congratulations to Ashby, he has been a hell of a Mike. Dude has a dad bod, but he can put the ball carrier on the ground. Great player, I am glad for him

As the initiator of the Dad Jokes thread, I protest any denigration of Dads or their bods. ;>)

Ut Prosim Ad Dei Gloriam

Seeing Dazz Newsome as an All-ACC caliber player on a coastal rival team, when he wanted to be a Hokie and we could have used a WR that can take the top off the defense is always disheartening. I still don't know why we slow-played him. He was a playmaker in H.S.

Yeah...that one looks worse and worse all the time.

Another on the pile of Fuente Recruiting Missteps.

Curious why you don't blame Beamer for not offering the kid?

Probably because he was a 2017 recruit

Te to qb

A legacy who Fuente offered his first season in Blacksburg. Again why didn't Beamer and staff offer him?

probably a bad eval - if I remember correctly, there were questions about his best position and which side of the ball was his best fit

For some reason, I remember us recruiting him as a DB and he went to UNC cause they gave him a shot to play WR. Not sure if thats totally accurate.

That's what I remember as well

Deon didn't turn out as a wide receiver so that same logic (at least on these boards) was applied to Dazz.

Yep...kid was a 2017 Recruit...that class was Fuente's alone.

I think we all know that towards the end, Beamer wasn't doing the footwork in Recruiting that was needed, particularly in the 757.

Newsome was a legacy, from 757 and was considered a hard Hokie lean until we pulled the brakes on him.

Whether it was because he was considered a "tweener" (so was Farley in '17 class...that went okay, I would say) or because he was seen as superfluous once Watts committed..who knows, but it was clearly a missed eval.

There are those here that put forth that our recruiting rankings don't matter because our coaches are better evaluators than others...this is a big not so fast my friend to that.

This would be why....

Beamer was sitting on his couch while VT successfully made Newsome feel like an afterthought. Not to mention, VT has never exactly had a strong relationship with Coach Smith and Hampton. Had to know you were going to have to put your work in here. Instead, got outworked by a UNC Program that was already on the downslope of the Fedora era and offered him barely a month before.

Thanks for this info. FYI - Dazz was Fuente's recruit, not Beamer's.

recruiting a single player isn't restricted to the year the player signs though

Hunter got offered in 2014/15 by a Beamer led staff, again why didn't Beamer and staff offered a legacy recruit from in state?
